MiSTer Dottori Kun Z80 Series EP5

For completeness the final part of the Z80 series, trying to understand how the chip works by using the Dottori-Kun board.

Re: MiSTer Dottori Kun Z80 Series EP3

Thanks! Yes in the Enigma 2 core, that is in 'stasis' at the moment (works but can't get sound), I got very bad results doing this daisy-chain and I can go through that at some point, showing how the two versions work. The main annoyance is that if you get borderline timing with FPGAs then the output changes based on how you monitor the wires in Si...

Thank you sir! Yes, I agree on the assembly language. I think I prefer 6502 myself too, but at the end of the day they're pretty similar.

MrMartian - that's excellent, thanks. Would be very interested to see the hardware generated sound when you've done it. It's too far for my modest abilities, but it really would be a bonus to get it implemented.

Re: MiSTer Core Dev Episode 16: Framework Frolics

Thinking about it - yes I believe there is a brighter color and less bright one, that will require implementation.

Re: MiSTer Core Dev Episode 16: Framework Frolics

MrMartian,

Yes that is interesting. Do you think it makes any meaningful difference in colors? From what I've seen on other videos it looks like the colors are comparable, but difficult to say. I do have the actual color prom programmed, as covered in the video series, so I could hook it up and see what colors I should be getting.

Maybe the dowloader hasn't logged it yet - I think it checks 3 times a day or something.

Re: Congo Bongo Released

lamarax - it sounds a simple request. I can tell you, implementing some of these features is FAR from simple. Especially since there is usually no explanatory documentation. There are some specialist core devs on here that are doing great work by taking cores and updating them with the latest features. That is another way.

Regarding the sound, it's only samples not recreation of the analogue circuitry.....yet. But we know how hard that is right?!

Namco Arcade Tank Battalion core is now updated with sound. Core is now fully functional, so is probably final release for now.

Re: MiSTer Core Dev Episode 16: Framework Frolics

Thank you Sir! Got some sampled sound working pretty quick with the 'borrowing' of some JimmyStones code. That will be a good start to at least have sound in the core until I can delve into a reproduction of the analogue part of the pcb.
Think I might need to do a video about my Supergun first though. Something a little lighter!

Looking at putting the familiar core into the MiSTer framework, to get the full functionality. Then taking a look at how the game plays.

Re: Tank Battalion Namco Core

killersquirel - there are 15 videos out on this core, so plenty of viewing time. The 16th will be released in the next day or so, involving porting to the MiSTer framework. The hardware was unique to this game. It is incredibly simple, only tilemap graphics and 8 3x3 white square bullets. So, no there were no other games on this hardware. I'm think...

Tank Battalion Namco Core

I'm releasing the core for the Namco game Tank Battalion. Since it's 1980 it's obviously very basic. Currently no sound, but otherwise fully playable. Some control issues make this game a little frustrating (gameplay related not code bugs). The bullets need to hit an enemy tank square on to destroy, and this isn't always the case, since you can blo...

For TRD files you need to be in the TSconf core.

There are always purists out there. Also they 'say' that only the latest Next core is available on the Next. Not sure how true that is. I have a Next, but haven't updated it in a while.

MiSTer Core Dev Episode 15: May I Interrupt?

Back after a break, looking to close-out with the last few episodes of the FPGA development series.

This time, looking at the 6502 CPU interrupts and using them for controls in the Tank Battalion game. Then we look at how to implement it in Verilog.

The answer to the above - thanks to the birdybro on discord - is that I was using two different files incorrectly. The lesson here is to double-check the files you are using are correct first! Well maybe 10th, but don't waste a week before you check!

MiSTer Framework & Core Performance

I have a rather strange issue going on. I have a simple core, that has only 1 input an 18 MHz clock from a top module. This clock is derived from a PLL that creates it from the 50 MHz system clock. With that one clock input and my core code I get the following response - essentially the maskable interrupt irq_n goes low, and there is an associated ...
