Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

You won't be able to run direct video on most VGA monitors. They don't support 15kHz (240p).

30 FPS is full speed. TV's running in 240p mode are 30 Frames Per Second. In 480i mode, they are 60 Fields Per Second.

240p is not limited to 30. It is 60 full progressive frames every second. 480i is 60 fields per second.

Re: Advice about PVMs

If you are in Europe, PVMs are really not that much of an upgrade over a regular Sonys, since they all have RGB via SCART. I understand that they are sought after in the US, since americans never got RGB hookups on their TV sets, except for the PVMs. Other than RGB, they do have some nice service menus etc, but most consumer sets have that as well,...

I guess you are using an NTSC console. You need an RGB connection.

Re: Hogs War PAL

So you are running some janky patched game? 60hz has a lower resolution than 50hz, so I guess the patch has to crop the frame buffer, since it's impossible to fit on a 60hz output.

I have bought lots of cables from retrogamingcables.co.uk. I've always been happy with the quality.

Upgrading the RAM would not improve PSX. It will however enable some of the larger Neo Geo games to work correctly.

There's also the multisystem from RMC. It's a well built "consolised" version with a printed shell. I like it a lot.

Cores load so fast I never even thought about it. A few seconds max. If it takes longer, I'd say something is wrong with your setup.

Re: Missing Top 8 Lines of Analog Video

Tomb Raider was always kinda funky looking, even on real hardware. I think the devs calculated the aspect ratio for 50hz, where the vertical resolution is higher.

Re: PSX Core Official Release

i have no idea what it even means. From what i understand it transmits 10bit colors to the TV, but PSX only has 8bit per color maximum(e.g. FMVs) and even just 5 bit per color for normal 2D/3D rendering, so i don't know what the goal would be. It makes the TV utilize full brightness. Makes quite a difference apparently, useful for scanlines and CR...

Re: Why Are the Analog Images of All Cores Zoomed In on My MiSTer?

It's just overscan. Console games were designed with this in mind, and placed no important information close to the edges. Arcades are a different story, and you might want to adjust your set to compensate for it.

Re: Can SNAC Zapper Work on 31Khz VGA CRT Monitor

Yes, there is a filter in it, and that is the main reason it won't register lightbulbs. That "black frame check" is a mix of misconceptions and sort of facts, and it is unfortunately spread by a lot of youtubers etc. There is no need to look for a black frame before looking for a hit, even though some games do this as well. Even if there ...

Re: Can SNAC Zapper Work on 31Khz VGA CRT Monitor

Thinking about it a little more; if you use 100% black scanline effect you will effectively recreate a 240p 15kHz flicker rate on a 31kHz VGA display, so then it should work.

Re: Can SNAC Zapper Work on 31Khz VGA CRT Monitor

The NES Zapper has a filter in it tuned to only register a 15kHz light source. This is done so you can't point it at a lightbulb etc. 31kHz should be too high a flicker rate for the Zapper to register, but I haven't tried it myself.

Original hardware alllows this, so why shouldn't mister? If speedrunning is allowed on original hardware it should be OK on mister too. At least if using original controllers via SNAC.
