Re: Addons needed to run XT core

Will core have the use of USB hub and additional SD slot, or RTC? These are general MiSTer questions so you can best find the answers elsewhere on this forum. Please do research the information on hubs, and about the potential for back feeding with powered hubs. It may be best to stick to the kits and such that are out there which already include ...

Not directly MiSTer-related but maybe someone will find it interesting:

I'd like to have this in MiSTer for sure, whether it is worth anyone's time to make I don't know.

Re: New HDR Settings

I think this is what happened. Beside the mode shuffling, I have also modified HDR metadata to tell the TV to expect 1000 nits instead of the original 10000. 10000 nits worked fine for some, but it caused clipped colors on a lot of displays. I'd say if people were having difficulty with 10000 nits we could try 4000 nits for the high figure. I wond...

No, I didn't succeed. In fact I made a mistake in my previous message, I ordered a glass for an iPad Air 4, and there is no hole in the glass. However I didn't manage to cut the glass, I used a glass cutter like this : https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/c1e066a6-5336-456a-86fa-0a24becc43f2_1.88038039d4bd6c5d6ae2d321564b7d67.jpeg But the glass is too...

Re: Seems like the Apple Lisa OS Sourcecode has been released

The Original Mac was just an expensive paper weight when it came out: one floppy, 128K, Mac Write and Mac Draw. I went to a PR demo when it was introduced and I was not impressed. For the GUI I already saw the Lisa and the Apollo workstation but these were expensive: Apollo base model July 88 price; Monochrome configurations with a disk range from...

Re: Noctua Fan Model Recommended for MiSTer?

NF-A4x10 you want the dedicated 5V version for low noise as it can easily run at 3.3V using the jumper select on the IO boards. https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a4x10-5v on ali I found this model but with differences like 3pin and 4 pin PWM, what I saw was basically differences in dB. which one can I use on mister, the 3pin is fine? Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

Most of the standard Mister hubs pull power from the Mister, through the USB U-connector. (I've read about one board that uses some kind of metal feet instead, touching the traces on the DE-10, but that sounds poorly designed.) I believe the standard design also has a barrel plug for auxiliary input, so you have the option of routing the power aro...

Re: New HDR Settings

Interesting, I guess it is somewhat possible, although I am curious if a once a second update would not be too great of a compromise. Though in any case, why would you want to have functionality like this? AutoHDR makes sense for film, since recordings of real life (such as the sun) obviously have way higher luminance in reality than what a 200nit...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

But aren't the USB hubs powered directly from the power supply, whether via a y splitter or a jumper piece that is what actually delivers power from the hub to the DE10-nano? If you route the power through the Mister, the most you can supply to the whole stack is about 4A, because that's all the DE-10 will transmit across the board. It has overvol...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

Wall warts are pretty cheap. I would reserve 4A for your Mister plus any downstream devices you may acquire, and then budget another 2A for the screen. Use either a separate 2A supply, or a Y connector on a 6A supply. The Mister has overcurrent/overvoltage protection, so it won't transmit more than a certain amount of total power across the board ...

Re: 9.7" iPad Retina Screen Perfect for MiSTer, $60 Fully Assembled 😄

The screen draws 5 volts over usb. Is it really save to supply that through the mister? I have these ports that get 5v straight from the DC input. I am not sure if powering the screen and the mister + peripherals is safe. The screen doesn't draw 5V, 5V is how much that is pushed by the PSU. The screen will draw some amount of amps @ 5V. And also, ...

Going back to Mister HLG, I haven't done extensive comparison yet but Genesis Sonic is looking dark and off on C2. I would like to get a sanity check here.

The MiSTer HLG is definitely off. Can't tell if it is just the luminance or chrominance as well.

As I mentioned, everything was working fine prior. It just hadn't been used in a few weeks due to being busy during the holidays. Re: Is My MiSTer Dead?

Someone else can answer this definitively, but a 5V 2A power supply doesn't seem like enough to power both the DE10-nano and a powered hub, depending on what you plug into the hub. All I ever have plugged in is my controller and WiFi dongle. Been flawless up until now. If someone north of Los Angeles has a 5V 4A supply for me to try out I'd be hap...

I edited the post after I made it because I noticed what you said about the hub not working. What were you using as a power supply? And was it powering both the hub and the DE10-nano? Fresh Mr. Fusion install on 4GB SD card. Goes the the file expansion part just fine, but when it auto-reboots it just hangs like before. Do you have a different microSD card to try? At least one of the Aliexpress complete system sellers offers (or did when I was looking) a Noctua option and I'd love to see that from western sellers. Pretty sure it is the thermal pad for cooling the DE10-nano's Cyclone V SoC when using the passive cooling MiSTer Addons aluminium case, also explains why no fan is present.

It hurts nothing to put a heat sink and fan on it, and it's added peace of mind, say if it's accidentally left running for extended periods, and you can be sure heat isn't the source of any glitches one experiences.

Out of curiosity, what's the white thing on top of the FPGA? You might want to install a fan, and a heat sink with fins, if that isn't some kind of super duper esoteric heat sink.
