Re: HotRod SE controlling the GUI

I'm having a similar problem with an I-PAC2. Basically the issue is keyboards are assumed to have all keys (e.g. F12, PrtScr, etc) and it's not possible to change that behavior at the moment (at least as far as I know). That said, for the I-PAC, it's possible to change key bindings using a utility f...

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

So I just decided to take the hit. I've gone a bit overboard by ordering a digital IO board (...) Congrats! The IO board is still handy for the User IO connector (for MIDI and SNAC adapters) and the 2nd SD card (for some computer cores). I'd be interested in knowing your impressions vs. expectation...

I'd think emulators work better on a PC than a RPi, though.

Rendering/scaling latency - the time it takes for the frame to be rendered, scaled, and sent to the TV or monitor. 3. Input latency - the time it takes for a button press or input to be dete...

Re: Is MiSTer FPGA Overkill For My Needs?

I'm all for software emulation (especially 3D systems) but it's best to do it on a powerful desktop PC with a good CPU and GPU. Chances are you have a machine like that already, so might as well use it (and then it's free). I haven't tried the RPi4 and the latest distros, but my experience with Pi2 ...

dmckean wrote: Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:02 pm How would the base price of any redesign be $300 when the FPGA itself sells for $256?
$256 may be the unit price to dissuade hobbyists. For all we know if you buy in bulk (100s or 1000s) it may go down significantly.

This is just not practical. There are tens of thousands of different games across systems, and it would be really hard to have images for all in a standard format that could be used across MiSTer.

Thanks! Fixed.

While I'm at it, here is the Lindy CEC less dongle:

Re: HDMI CEC and the MiSTer.

You can also use these HDMI IR extenders, which are cheaper than the Lindy dongle:

You basically set them to "IR" mode to disable the CEC pin.

Re: To those of you who tried it, is the BlisSTer Board Worth it?

LLAPI is proprietary and should not be relied upon since the code is not available who knows how long it will be supported and since it is non standard it needs to be separately maintained. LLAPI is open source, there is an open hardware version of the adapter and of the protocol: https://github.co...

Other than a NES style pad, a SNES, Sega 6 Button (Genesis or Saturn), a paddle/spinner, and a Controller with a Keypad, maybe an Arcade stick, what else would you need? My controller collection is well beyond the "need" and shamelessly into the "want" / "beyond reason" at this stage. I can t...

Re: To those of you who tried it, is the BlisSTer Board Worth it?

I believe the latest firmware of Blisster allows you to use lightguns with a CRT if you use LLAPI mode. Regarding latency, the Blisster is great as a generic USB adapter for original controllers. You can also get a Gamer-Pro (also from bliss-box) and use it with a PC. I have both of those and the SN...

If nothing else, it's good advertising when pitching FPGAs as a platform for consumer devices.

Re: Why I hate emulation.

Emulation can be difficult for a random person to get right. Commercial hardware solutions are usually under-powered or have some compromises (bad scaling, laggy filters), and unless you have a very powerful PC, you may have trouble optimizing emulators for your rig. With FPGAs, there is nothing to ...
