Re: 0MHz DOS Collection 2024.03.20 Released

Why is an ao486 config file required? It seems shared by all games. Can we set it manually?

I tried Alone in the Dark and it failed to run, and that's the only file I did not copy.

Actually, have you seen the Hori Fighting Commander Octa? That adds an analog stick and a mouse pad.

Re: I want to design the perfect "catch all" controller for MiSTer and emulation

A lot of what you guys describe reminds me of the Retrobut Saturm Pro controller. I has 6 face buttons, analog sticks and shoulder buttons... Anyway its not possible to cater for all cores... earlier consoles and computers need paddles and longer analog joysticks, and so on... Personally, I like the Hori Fighting Commander for anything that does no...

The exe flags as a virus because it was built with py installer. Its safe to use, im happy to share the py script with anyone concerned.
https://github.com/pyinstaller/pyinstaller/issues/5854

Just put the .py script on github and let people use MiSTer's Python to run it - no need to add additional dependencies or downloading .exe files.

I noticed this video had "rolling" effect when loadinfg a core from menu. Is that what you experienced?

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?

Looking at your INI file, why is this commented out?

Code: Select all

;video_mode=0

Are you using an analog IO board (or equivalent), or are you using direct video? In the latter case you will need to check any settings that can affect the HDMI signal

Re: "rolling screen" when starting a core : long-term harm for CRT ?

during the rolling effect (about 2 seconds ), a core is already loaded and the signal is not dropped (because I see the message "Kbd mode..." on the screen. But I can't tell if it's from the "targeted" core or MiSTer main menu core !) If I understand you correctly, you are seeing a stable box with the OSD saying "'kbd mode...

Re: ESXDos, is it possible?

If you mean my image, there is a bug which makes keyboard operations freeze sometimes unless SPACE is pressed. It's got something to do with using bob_fossil's LFN browser. Not just your image, I have another image which I couldn't get to work. It is a pack of games from the Zx-Uno community. I managed to fix it by removing all system files and co...

Re: ESXDos, is it possible?

Thanks both! Yes, the image from akeley works fine if I use the same boot1.rom .... but not the others. It seems a bit finicky, as in the core can sometimes get into a bad state and won't respond in the same way, but usually a cold reboot (going back to MiSTer menu) seems to work fine. I suppose I might be able to fix my other .vhd image by updatin...

Does your esxdos match the 0.8.8 version? I've tested this vhd extensively about a month ago and it was working ok. When I tried this VHD (with the 0.8,8 version) if freezes after "Loading ESXDOS.SYS... [OK]" Can you share which OSD settings you are using? Re: [DOCS] MR GLUK RESET SERVICE - menu explained

I'm quite confused by this menu; I was expecting the core to boot into ESXDOS instead.

Is it a patched ESXDOS? (i.e. maybe my boot1.rom is incorrect)

I'm using a VHD with the ESXDOS files in it; placed the rom as boot1.rom, but it does not show the file browser.

After every reboot, the Party is empty and characters need to be Added from the Tavern.
Anyone know if that's all standard Wizardry behavior?

I'm not sure but I think it happened to me on the Apple II in general.
They are not "out", i.e. you don't have to run the recovery tool to get them.

There's an improvement in that created characters are persistent between boots, but the core is still locking up when I use the *ROSTER command at the Training Grounds or when I try to Add characters at the Tavern. You might need to disable the write protect option, I've experienced lock ups on other games when the core was trying to write. But fo...

Re: MiSTer Feature Expansion Idea

Yes, your idea is possible. If you just use the DE10 (without MiSTer extensions) you will have plenty of GPIO pins available. If you use a MiSTer setup you will be restricted by the GPIO pins available (I think it's 8? and there is unofficial hardware using 9 pins). Might be enough if the c64 uses a serial protocol (with low pin count on the connec...

Nice! Yes, for some games I find it comvenient to have a single image - especially adventure ot RPGs that would need a few hours of play and keeping saves. Backing up your saves from a big image could get tedious. Whereas I can easily locate and copy a single game image via SFTP... By the way, there was similar work in the past that added ta "...

I suggest you spend some time getting familiar with existing features and trying them out. You can also check how to run a program on the Linux side at startup, so a reset will bring you back to the launcher.

Re: Arcade Setup MiSTer Backend + Pi GUI Frontend

I for sure won't get into FPGA programming just to get a very limited GUI with kind ow low red picture suport going. The MiSTer firmware is written in C++ and GolEm in Rust. They run on the Linux OS inside MISTer's DE-10. Assuming you intend to have some kind of simple "kiosk" setup - like an arcade cabinet - there are already a few thin...

It looks like the software for it is independently available for the Apple II, so you can try it on the regular core.

The launcher looks custom and is still being studied (accoridng to the github). Maybe it can be eventually run on a regular Apple II as well.
