VS System support. Anyone working on it?

Hey there. Was just thinking the other day about the VS System version of the NES and wishing it was available on MiSTer. The Analogue Pocket Spiritualised NES core seems to have full support for the VS System, so it must be possible. Has anyone tried to get the VS System games working on the MiSTer NES core? Would be awesome to be able to play the...

Re: MiSTer Multisystem - All-in-One System

Glad to hear that you'll be continuing to support the Multisystem Rick. It's a great piece of hardware that's basically the perfect entrypoint into the MiSTer ecosystem for most people, and it's reassuring to know that I'll be able to continue to get parts/replacement systems in the future should I ever need them or want another MMS :) Absolutely l...

Re: N64 Core Development Ends

Shame that we're not quite 100% there, but still; being far more accurate and reliable than any PC-based software emulator aint half bad at all! Robert's core is, by far, the most accurate representation of the N64's hardware that you can currently get outside of owning original hardware now. Incredible achievement by Robert here, and it also means...

I wrote the original MAME driver for this hardware (note I didn't implement the rotation used in Galaga Arrangement - is it even there now?) I own the Vol 1 PCB and had the SMT graphics ROMs removed temporarily so they could be dumped. Someone else dumped the Vol 2 ROMs. The graphics processor is the Yamaha YGV-608 - a multi-layer scrolling tilema...

Re: Virtual Boy

Old Arcade games use a unique board per game, leading to these games having 1 core just for themselves. 1 core for 22 games isn't too absurd Most arcade boards share some basic hardware, such as Motorolo 68000 CPUs. So core developers can make use of pre-existing FPGA solutions for those chips; and where there isn't a current solution? New CPU cor...

Re: Virtual Boy

Problem with a VB core is that it's a lot of work for a tiny library of just 22 games, whose CPU is shared with only one other system (The PCFX; which has a similar problem).

Also, without stereoscopic 3D support, you lose the main appeal of the system in the first place. So more work would have to go into supporting SBS 3D.

Re: Analogue N64 Product

That's nuts that they're actually attempting an FPGA N64! I'd be very interested to see what hardware they're using inside this thing; there's no way it's running on the same Cyclone V that they've been using before, since the DE10 nano is only just barely able to handle Robert's in-progress N64 core. No doubt it's gonna cost a fortune, given the h...

Weird, I did just that with my DS4. Did you try configuring it in the MiSTer main menu before setting up inside the N64 core?

Oh? That works? Thanks for the heads up, might have to give that a try at some point :D

Wahey! It's about time! Should've happened ages ago, but at least it's here now.

The core is starting to get mature enough that we're getting close to it being a viable way to play a big chunk of the Saturn's library.

Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

Naturally the best choice is going to be the official Switch NSO N64 controller (or the original N64 controller with some sort of adapter). Perfect 1:1 mapping. Anything else is going to be a bit of an awkward compromise. The reality of the situation is that N64 games don't really feel natural on anything other than that original controller; it's a...

Re: Discussion and Development of a 'MiSTer 2.0' Modular Hardware Platform

I just noticed that the Efinix Ti 180 FPGA is finally available on Digikey for $55 in small quantities (80 units). I think there's a place for a System-on-Module (SoM) ecosystem like the Raspberry Pi 4 CM. It may be possible to match the capability of the DE-10 with a cheaper board that's also portable. I think there's a lot of interest in a cheap...

As someone who grew up playing PAL N64 games throughout that entire generation? NTSC all the way.

I swapped all my PAL carts for NTSC ones about 15 years ago and never looked back. No way would I ever go back to PAL now. The games just play so much better at their originally intended speed.

Re: The “Cycle Accurate” Conundrum and Is There a List of Cores That Are?

I think one major aspect of MiSTer that doesn't get much attention is its user experience. It's so painless and simple, Update All literally does everything for you as far as setup goes. Starting a game is as simple as turning it on and selecting a game, and another thing... that startup is instant. There's no lengthy bootup process, there's no hef...

This definitely isn't gonna run on the DE10 nano, but it's great to see someone make a start on a future implementation. I wouldn't expect to see any real tangible results for a good 3-5 years at least though, assuming that Ash can stick it out that long. Still, exciting to see a glimpse of the future of FPGA console cores nonetheless. And work on ...

Re: Irem M72 Core on HDMI

The Irem M72 runs its games at 55.02hz. Most likely your TV isn’t compatible with that refresh rate. Try changing the Vsync Adjust settings in your MiSTer ini (to vsync_adjust=0), that will force the MiSTer to output at your TV’s native 60hz refresh rate (at the cost of some occasional stuttering and additional input latency). The core itself does ...

MD/Genesis Based Arcade Boards (SEGA System C & Mega Play)

Hi there. Was just wondering if anyone has attempted to get the Mega Drive-based arcade boards up and running on MiSTer? I get that the SEGA System C/C2 isn't identical to a stock Mega Drive (Eschewing the Z80 entirely in favour of an overclocked 68000 and featuring a different colour encoder chip that bypasses the MD VDP's 64 colour limitations fo...

Yup. Updated my MiSTer with the new MiSTer Main via Update All and now the new version of the Saturn core is working just fine. Some real nice progress has been made here; Daytona USA doesn't crash every 5 seconds anymore and seems pretty stable now (albeit with some pretty noticable graphical glitches still); while Panzer Dragoon 1 & 2 now see...

Well that topic aged poorly.

Bit early to say that yet, even Robert himself said that he's not sure if it's possible on the current DE-10 nano.

But either way, the foundational work here will mean that an N64 core will basically be ready to go as soon as we get a viable successor to the DE-10 nano, so it's still very exciting either way.
