Re: 1440p

We're arguing two entirely different points here. You're arguing assuming that the vertical resolution of the display is to be filled. I was talking about integer scales with windowboxes to fill the rest of the frame. That's a feature a lot of retro gamers would love to see in a display. To my knowl...

Re: 1440p

No algorithim can overcome native resolution mathematics. If you try and fully upscale a 224p signal to a 1440p/2160p screen, it's not pixel perfect, plain and simple. If you do horizontal lines tests in 240p, you'll see some bigger than others. That's simply not true. All you have to do is scale t...

Re: DIY cartridge reader add-on board

Correct. Sorg has confirmed this many times, and the same goes for disc-based games. Any CD drive or cartridge reader would only be usable for ripping the game to internal storage, and then what's the point? Just do it on a PC and put the games onto SD/USB. Having the MiSTer rip games won't be funct...

Re: Cause found (and solution!) for Pink / Magenta / Purple tinted video on MiSTer I/O Board analog VGA output connector

Good stuff, though I'll throw a small wrench into this and say that my board came with a SOG switch installed (and it works correctly as I'm using RGsB to my PVM), but I still get pink VGA ouput no matter what I do. Not a big deal for me since I'm not using VGA natively, but others might have the sa...

Re: vscale_mode on CRT

vscale_mode will only affect CRT if you have vga_scaler enabled, and all of the HDMI effects will be output through the VGA port (including your HDMI resolution setting). If you want original analog signal, that's already what comes out of the VGA port and you shouldn't need to adjust anything.

Unable to map Nunchuck inputs

I've been using a Wii remote as a temporary solution for light gun games, and found it to be decent enough to warrant digging through my old accessories box to see what I could do with it. First, I tried plugging it into a gun handle that has a built in nunchuck stick and buttons, thinking that woul...

Re: Noob question about power input on MiSTer

Yep, that's exactly what I was talking about. It draws power directly from the board, so you get an extra power-only USB port instead of a DC input jack.

Re: Noob question about power input on MiSTer

So the left power port is just a powered USB port--good for charging devices, etc. The one on the right is in place of the USB board's DC input jack, but is also just a USB power output. Since it doesn't have its own DC power in port, I assume that means it's only getting power from the micro USB co...

Re: SMS core on CRT Sony trinitron TV

The color of the borders usually matches the background color of the game. When playing on HDMI, there's a setting to crop those borders off/hide them, and that makes it just look like the normal black border is a little larger.

Re: SMS core on CRT Sony trinitron TV

When you say it's not full screen, do you mean it just has bars at the top and bottom like this (and maybe a little on the sides that isn't getting caught by overscan)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hePdSTozdco If so, that's normal. From what I understand SMS typically runs at 192p, windowed in a ...

The description on thingiverse implies 14mm. (They say "if anyone uses a 12mm spacer let me know if it works".) Best to post a comment there and ask though.

Re: USB hub with one non-working port?

Some older USB drives had a Y-shaped USB adapter to draw power from a second port. You can use it to power a USB Wii sensor bar. You can just keep a micro usb cable connected for charging your wireless controllers. Anything that draws power from USB but doesn't need data is good to go through that.

Yeah, you can modify the 6.0 board. 7th data pin is used for Sega controllers, I believe.

Re: Flash cartridges with original hardware are basically FPGA already?

This is nonsense. The cartridge supplying the ROM is an add on. The system itself isn't running on an FPGA is it? I'll not be commenting further on this, it gives me a headache knowing this isn't clear to some people. SD2SNES usues an FPGA to emulate cartridge expansion chips. MegaSD emulates the S...

Re: Vectrex core

It's technically possible to use the VGA scaler to ouput to a horizontal CRT, but the resolution the core renders at is too tall for the resolution and looks awful when compressed to fit. It may look better rotated, but I think it would still be questionable on a 15khz display. Would be very playabl...

USB Bridge plugs into both micro USB ports at the front: P5J3hff.png USB Bracket plugs into headers on top of the USB board, and the micro USB port on the front of the DE-10. bridge.jpg Both do the same thing, just using different connections on the USB hub board. Re: All in one case for Mister & Blisster

Thanks for the clarification--didn't realize there was one made by Sorg but outside the project. In that case, I suspect MiSTer Addons must have either remixed it or had someone design a second case to match it, but using BLISSter specs.

Re: All in one case for Mister & Blisster

There is no "official MiSTer case". There is an "official MiSTerAddons" cases, and whatever sellers want to call their cases. But unless there are designs published in the Github for a case, none will be "official". In any case, just get what works best for you and don't worry about labels.

Re: MiSTer can read Wii Mote, but the cores can't

Does it register button presses in the cores, let you navigate the core menu, etc?

If you want to use it as a light gun (and therefore move the crosshair) you need a wii sensor bar, and have to enable light gun in the core menu.

What would that even do? Show when you load the core, until you load your ROM?

I've kind of done similar by picking games that have nice/iconic attract modes set as boot.rom for most cores. SMB3 for NES, SMW for SNES, Pokemon Yellow for GB, etc.

Re: BVM A20F1E with SDI and Filters ?

I think the scan lines will end up looking pretty funny. You'll have a mix of very small scanlines from the actual CRT (3 small scanlines per pixel line) and then one large scanline per pixel line from the scanline filter. Running native 240p will just look right without jumping through hurdles.
