Re: I want to design the perfect "catch all" controller for MiSTer and emulation

I wonder how you would integrate an "intellivsion" disc style control into a universal controller. There are a few retro systems that use similar very non standard control schemes like this.

Re: Discussion and Development of a 'MiSTer 2.0' Modular Hardware Platform

I think one thing people often forget is the escalating complexity of writing cores for more advanced systems. There's a point of rapidly diminishing returns (and I'd argue strongly that's the N64) that beyond which you're way beyond the bounds of what can be accomplished by a single (or even handful) of developers realistically. Pentium, for exam...

This is awesome but .. rrrgg now I have to totally redo my existing Amiga setups, I like this better and fantastic version then what I have going :-D .. but seriously looks worth the work for me to retrofit my existing HDFs/configs around this (dont know if ill go full bore and use PFS but ty for including the blanks), might need to explore the MGL...

Please update SAM and let me know if that works. Ill be away for the weekend but I will try it when I get back Thanks for taking a look at the problem .. as you say it might take a few approaches and multiple changes in various points to get it right, I do like the idea of checking and limiting the size .. thats a good one, when my /tmp filled it ...

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

The reason for this behavior is that our main objective with SAM is to limit any unnecessary writes to the SD card. The way Mega AGS works with SAM is that the file ags_boot in the shared folder is updated every time a new game gets launched. This is how SAM communicates with Mega AGS. Also a file called ags_current will be updated with the curren...

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

So I noticed something strange with SAM , for the Amiga core, it copies the ./games/amiga/shared folder to /tmp? this seems a bit odd to me as there could be a lot of random stuff unrelated to SAM in there and it doesnt seem to make any sort of logical sense why this is being done? Is there a reason for this behavior? can it be disabled..? if you h...

Re: Abandoned Cores, Long Outstanding Feature Requests

The TRS80 core (not the coco ones) could use an update to their disk handler, to support JV3 & DMK .. currently it only does JV1 format, and the more common formats out there are JV3/DMK .. UART support would be nice too.

Re: Transfering Commodore 128 Core

The action replay crt does indeed work. The C128 core started in C64 mode automatically whilst I had the display on 80 column mode... hence I thought it crashed when indeed it was working as intended. Sorry, stupid beginners mistake. Now you mention this, I recall leaving my ActionReply cart permanently in my C128 as I typically used the 64 mode m...

Hardware has a life cycle too, normally somewhere around 7-10 years and the DE-10 Nano turned 5 last summer.

Yea we raised this issue too when the Mister first became a thing..

Re: Transfering Commodore 128 Core

It's much more than just a single byte of memory, for example, the VDC is available and usable from the C64 mode. Eye of the Beholder uses this, it runs in C64 mode, but uses the VDC and turbo modes on a C128. Somehow switching cores when doing a "go64" would make that impossible. Also, the C128 is architecturally so much like the C64, i...

Re: Transfering Commodore 128 Core

Well the original C128 included a fully functional c64 mode so this core is true to the original .. that said it would be nice if when you type "GO64" in the C128 core it autolaunches and runs the existing C64 core .. Till then, I think keeping consistent with the spirit of the original machine is the better option here, to me its wrong t...

Re: Allwinner D1 Possible Future Cheaper FPGA Options

My main goal is to have the MiSTer run on cheaper FPGA boards. but I am not sure of how much that would cost (maybe around $50 or so for small quantities, depending on what features it will have). This has always been what kills these kinds of efforts, when folks in the past over the years tried to find "cheaper" alternatives to the mist...

Yeah, I was pretty sure it does more than just be a modem, and the custom firmware I have heard is not really needed, but the hardware itself seems to help make it possible to open web links in some way. The custom firmware I think just helps make it more accessible. Yea as far as I can tell the custom kernel rom just co-opts the tape "LOAD&q...

There is only RS232 and IEC lines exposed by the Userport on the C64 and the hardware needs 8 data lines, 2 handshake lines and 1 control line. Re: Google Maps on the C64

The cartridge is just a wifi modem as I understand it and thats already implemented in the c64 core .. and the custom rom just adds a "LOAD" command that even in one of the videos I watched was purely optional, most of the heavy lifting is done on the server side you connect to .. so I dont see why it couldnt work, you just need to run th...

Re: Any Way to Limit 68020 Speed?

Generally speaking as a platform, the Amiga, unlike other machines of its era, was not entirely dependent on the CPU/cpu speed so speeding up/slowing down the CPU isn't going to be as massive a noticeable impact as say with other machines (of course this depends on the task at hand, games vs say 3d rendering), the custom chips kind run along at the...

These talks come up about once a year and the all end the same way.. once people realize the actual "cost" to make a Mister 2.0 .. the project usually dies and fades away.. I suspect the same will happen here. How does anything get moving in an 'adhocracy' community - interesting ideas and enough support to make it happen. To answer that...
