Re: tty2rpi Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a HDMI or DSI display)

Thanks for the reply Larry, I'm using the "2023-12-11-raspios-bookworm-arm64-lite.img" with Raspberry pi imager to write the image with the extra settings added into the imager with my wifi settings Oi! Many thanks for that hint! I wasn't aware of the fact that it can "inject" some settings like WiFi credentials etc. I'll take ...

...and while we're talking about that I've found and fixed a stupid mistake I did, which is overwriting /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi.nmconnection when updating. Maybe this is the culprit on your site.

The example file is now called wifi.nmconnection.example Removed! Is causing issues with NetworkManager.

Re: tty2rpi Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a HDMI or DSI display)

Great addon, I have it working but have to use a network cable as I need to add my wifi settings. I have created the wlan.nmconnection file with my network settings and copied it to the directed location but just need to enter the "systemctl disable wpa_supplicant" How do you break out of tty2rpi to get the command prompt and enter/chang...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

I have noticed that if I go into a core too soon after the MiSTer boots that the Uno has trouble pulling up the graphic for that console (and subsequently for each game I launch). Do you think that is an issue with the Uno or perhaps with MiSTer still undergoing some booting processes and failing to write the core name for your program to grab? It...

Re: tty2rpi Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a HDMI or DSI display)

Another update: Cores like Atari2600, Atari800, C64, N64 etc can now show their own ROM/Game pictures! Just create a new directory under ~/marquee-pictures named exactly like the core itself (ie Atari2600, case insensitive) and drop all your pictures there. Picture names has to be the same name as the ROM/Game itself! Example: Core is SNES , game R...

After cleaning up and last handcraft on fixing small things it went public now! Just run update_tty2tft.sh on MiSTer and enjoy zillions of new pictures for consol- and computer cores now! (Same goes to tty2rpi but it will get it's own announcement later) BTW looks like I've found an old but small bug and not noticed so far: When returning to Menu a...

Thanks again for implementing this functionality RealLarry! Do you think you will add the game image matching to the TTY2RPi project as well? I'd still like to give that one a try at some point. It definitely sounds more robust and flexible than the Uno based displays. Yes, and it is already implemented, but not yet published. Almost all tty2* pro...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Another small update. The tty2tft Daemon is now sending CORE+GAME instead of GAME only if log_file_entry=1 is set. This is enough for the ESP to interpret this as an "extended path" without knowing anything about that fact ;) For your sent examples that means that all pictures have to go the following way to EPS's SD: /jpg/320x240/A/Atari...

Received, thanks a lot! When I loaded "Rally Cross 2" that does not have artwork assigned. The TFT picked up artwork for another arcade "Rally" game. Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

The core logo will stay on the TFT after exiting the Mister Menu screen. The only way to get the game logo back is to load a different game and load RE DC again. The same thing happens if I load another game without game artwork (I see the "file not found" as expected) the core (PlayStation) logo appears when bringing up the Mister Menu ...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

1) Are png images possible with TTY2TFT? The jpg format does not support transparency apparently. With logo files like the one below you end up with a rectangular image and the background must be filled with some color. However, if the program supported png then I think it would just have a consistent black background throughout the entire display...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Ladies and Gentlemen, the following is experimental code. If you enable "log_file_entry" in mister.ini , the detection routine in tty2tft on MiSTer is going a different way. Leaving "log_file_entry" disabled goes like before. Detection works an all menu entries except ARCADE (they are having their own naming). No touch support f...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Expanding the MiSTer part of tty2tft/tty2rpi to also keep an eye on /tmp/ACTIVEGAME (or whatever) isn't that hard and I'll re-open that case for further considerations. But to put it bluntly: I'll not implement any AI magic to to differentiate between a normal core and its loaded content nor to manage media sources. That way it's on the user to fin...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Would using the roms filename in order to simplify the process for matching artwork to a specific game that has been launched make it easier? Not really. Think about the naming, PacMan for C64 for example. You'll name it "PACMAN.D64". But what about "pac-man.d64" ? (uppercase/lowercase doesn't matter). Or "pacman (namco).d...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

We have discussed this in the tty2oled thread some time ago. It is possible and there are settings for that in mister.ini but we have paused this idea for now until we've found Columbus egg: How to and who guarantees the exact needed game title and/or its checksum? The code of tty2tft and tty2rpi is already fit for that task: you send and command+n...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

All existing tty2tft pictures (even those for 320x240) can be "recycled" (will be upscaled) but I already started to rebuild all for an 800x600 resolution (more space for pixel art, will be downscaled - better than upscaling :) ). Pictures for Marquee sized displays can be used from the MAME project (where I did another bunch of 700 new o...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Well, okay, but there are already almost all pictures for all cores for tty2tft (at least for 320x240 - 480x320 is still missing many of them). Means that a user can download his needed/better pictures from any source, re-scale them for the needed display size and put them onto ESP's SD...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

The video playback only happens when enabled, corresponding video on SD available and is then played only once, followed by a still/picture. While videos are funny, I personally dislike to have/download/manage all available videos when a core is started on MiSTer. This is space and time consuming. I think that if a user wants to have a specific (or...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Hmm, but looks like that the sync utility is Windows-only/Closed Source and that using their videos requires a subscription/payment. IMHO videos are too many and too big to store them on ESP's SD (respective no SD card >32 GB (or 64 GB?) can't be used with an ESP) and may require downscaling before use. That might an applicable idea for tty2rpi, wh...

Yeah, it would need added communication. The emulators are already customized for Groovy support, so who knows, it might be doable. If it only showed the currently playing game in text, it might not be interesting enough. Should be doable with some communication to @psakhis ;) And yes, making those graphics would be a massive amount of work. It do...

Re: tty2tft Soft & Hardware Add-On (shows core based pictures and videos on a color TFT display)

Is it possible to display artwork of the game that is loaded within a core? This depends on the core. For Arcade cores yes, almost every Arcade core is setting its name which will be displayed as video/picture. For other cores, ie Computer cores like Atari, Commodore and so on, it is also possible in principal - we have discussed this in the past ...
