Re: N64 Core

How much SDRAM is needed to run Resident Evil 2, which is 64 MB in size? Readme on https://github.com/RobertPeip/Mister64 says that 32Mbyte SDRAM can only be used for games up to 16Mbyte in size. Does this mean that Resident Evil 2 needs 128MB? Will the game work with 64 MB SDRAM? Generally cores require more RAM than the ROM you're loading. RE2 w...

Re: Connecting Retro Fighters Defender (Bluetooth)

If it's like the Brawler 64 Bluetooth, unplug the USB cable and turn it off and hold the sync button on the back and A to change it to X-Input mode, then it should pair with your MiSTer by Bluetooth.

Re: Nintendo 64 Input Situation

So i have an N64 USB pad that i bought ages ago Im not sure on the manufacture as theres no marking just says 'Made in China' on the top of the pad. The pad works fine in Windows but with the MiSTer it doesn't detect any movement when moving the analog stick up and down!. Any ideas why this happens? Have you mapped the buttons on it? It should ask...

It's not an FPGA core but there is a Linux port of SCUMMVM for MiSTer.

Anyone knows what swap interlaced does? I only get combing artifacts at 480i and thought it might improve things. Don't know if bob is implemented.

It swaps the interlaced fields. Generally leave it turned off unless you're using a CRT at 480i and, even then, you probably want to leave it turned off.

Re: N64 Core

I grew up with PAL, so why would I care about NTSC ? I'm not sure about N64 games but a lot of earlier games were developed for NTSC and weren't actually ported to PAL. They were just slowed down from 30 to 25 fps and letterboxed slightly by adding 50 blank lines top and bottom to account for the difference in resolution. The games actually played...

Thanks for your reply, and for the welcome! It's not a deal breaker as such for me, but I do much prefer to able to try and fake the CRT look if possible. I did suspect that any reply would confirm what I was already thinking may be the case, in that the options would be more limited with it not being a core in the same way as all of the others. I...

Re: Windows 95 with Internet?

Hey! Thanks for responding. I know what the problem is in more detail now. My connection is available and winipcfg shows my DNS server correctly, but that's where my problem starts. My DNS server (Pi Hole) is on a separate device to my router and Windows is showing that the DNS IP as my gateway IP. Weirdly MiSTer is configured with the correct gat...

I just went back and uncommented the line and it's working fine now. My FreeNAS has been up and running since I replaced a failed disk 3 weeks ago and I didn't make any changes to NFS or the filesystem settings since the last boot. The only thing I did change was to the SMART tests on 2 VHDs and 3 other disks, none of which were part of the array t...

And things like http://frogfind.com/ too! Out of interest, How'd you get your Win95 to connect and then actually receive more than a few hundred bytes of data? They also never announced jailbreaking possibilities in the past, yet it's always been there. And this system will update its firmware via SD, like previous ones. I suspect they're just overly careful with their official messaging for plausible denial. At least I hope so, it would be the difference between getting it or passing it for me. And I ag...

Re: Longterm ExFAT Reliability

Yes and MiSTer Main is designed to reduce the amount of SD writes which helps prevent corruption. You also dont need to do a clean shutdown due to this This is also why it was recommended to run the ZXNext core from the secondary SD card slot originally as the core needed to write back to SDcard all the time Yes and no. Most cores aren't sensitive...

Re: Longterm ExFAT Reliability

Excluding wear, an SD does not get corrupted. The filesystem does. That's minimized (like wear) by preventing writes. That's done by moving all write tasks to alternative media like a NAS. A NAS manages its own integrity mostly independent of its clients. If you do need writes, make sure they get a chance to finish and file handles are properly te...

I am still on my original install from over 3 years ago and even migrated it to a larger SD card over the years. I always though the MiSTer backend is designed to prevent SDcard corruption ? Not really possible on an SD card. It's up to the filesystem and the controller built into the card. FAT32 doesn't do wear-leveling and neither do most micro ...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

It's worth noting that the N64's MIPS R4300i CPU contained about 1.7 million transistors, over 10x the logic elements in DE-10 Nano's FPGA (110,000), and the RSP transistor count is 2.6 million. There are undoubtedly some optimizations that can and have been made but it may never be possible to fully emulate the N64 at full speed on this hardware.

Re: So Robert Peip (FPGAzumSpass) Is Working on a New Core...

Actually the N64 was pretty powerful, the problem was for cost reasons Nintendo saved on ram (a mistake they admitted later) they had to save on it because they insisted on RAMBUS ram, which was 4xmore expensive than SDRAM, had high licence fee ( though nintendo probably cut a deal on that, i would hope... ) limiting the amount nintendo put in the...

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future

by incidence mostly large cores such as ao486 and Minimig take advantage of MT32/MIDI, so there is anyway no space for MT32 left on FPGA. MT32 in FPGA itself should be quite large. So MT32pi is a good and budget alternative. I didn't mean running side by side with another core. I mean connected to a PC via a MIDI interface, replicate the functiona...
