Re: What Are the Reasons to Own a MiSTer Without a CRT?

Even without a CRT the experience via MiSTer as a end user is far better. I have tried software emus in comparison recently and some of the multi system setups are horrendous to use.

The HDMI scaler is a great feature and low latency. MiSTer was built around HDMI from what i have seen too

In the end it doesn't really matter the choice is yours

Re: WWF WrestleFest Arcade Core?

Unfortunately the guys behind CoinOp Collection are the same from MARS project. They won’t release any other core to MiSTer so they can try to leverage sales to their product (which doesn’t exist yet by the way). Yes that is well known but i cant see how they make closed cores for Pocket using OpenFPGA, open source frameworks and modules. Now they...

They are using OpenFPGA though so can they keep the source code closed ?

Open FPGA means nothing, They can do whatever they want

They are also using Jotegos framework and other open source modules. I dont think its that clean cut tbh

Well this core has been released for the Analogue Pocket but according to Twitter it's a "Pocket exclusive" Is there any possibility this can be ported over to the MiSTer? I don't want an Analogue Pocket and this is literally the final core I want for my collection! if no source code release it would be as if it never existed They ...

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

I ditched all my original hardware and software a few years ago when the prices started to go silly, most of which i picked up in the previous decade for peanuts so was a nice little earner. MiSTer does all i need and good enough to not make me feel like i am missing out by not having the real hardware, In some ways i find it makes revisiting these...

Yeah always loved the look too but Philips had a nasty habit of locking their CRTs to PAL only even as late as 1998 on their Blackline series, ludicrous

I have several 8580 and they all sound different. When you play Mister demo vs 8580 on a real SID its totally different. To my ears. Maybe I am out of tune? Roughly the same is not the same but i get you.

For 8580 SID I recommend the recent test build of the core as the digifix was causing issues and it's switchable on the test build

I have been impressed with the C64 core output using RGB scart via the Ironclad ITX. Re: Discussion and Development of a 'MiSTer 2.0' Modular Hardware Platform

I wouldn't get too carried away just yet. It still doesn't have enough resources to handle Nintendo DS which was confirmed by Robert. It's worth pointing out also that after a certain point the need for cycle accurate emulation diminishes because everyone stopped coding close to the hardware... dreamcast and up probably don't need cycle accurate C...

There is a Migrate SD script that will clone the card directly on MiSTer and expand to a larger size at the same time. Its not the fastest due to the DE10 IO but works very well

yes as per instructions

Are you using HDMI output with anything like a HDMI switch ? as the HDMI on the DE10 is not isolated and can partially power up via HDMI power.
Apart from this you will have to wait for Roberto

Re: C64 core test build with switchable Digifix for 8580 SID

After spending some time testing it yesterday it's surprising how much having the digifix always on was harming the 8580 sound.

I only noticed the issue after building a couple of BMC64 builds for friends and ReSID used by that doesn't have the digifix.

C64 core test build with switchable Digifix for 8580 SID

This test build allows the digifix to be switchable for the 8580 SID and removes the extra noise from the music and samples designed for the 8580 SID

Re: I want to design the perfect "catch all" controller for MiSTer and emulation

It only has four face buttons, like every other modern controller. Awful for Saturn, N64, Mega Drive and arcade 6-button games etc. As for joysticks, you can make playing C64, Amiga etc much more fun by mapping up and space to buttons so you have more than one "button". But anyway, this would be a catch all console control pad design. Na...

Nah one button joystick games have to be played on one button with up for jump. Feels alien to play them any other way. Same on Virtua Fighter sometimes. ------ Another Question: Some Saturn games keep switching the resolution. In Die Hard, for example, always when changing between levels. It would be very cool to see 68060 cpu implementation in this core. Processing of 16 bit audio would be really helped by it, among other things.

The core is limited by the TG68K 020 module but is the only open source option available.

The irony of course is the Mega65 team have spent the past year porting the C64 core from MiSTer
