Re: Horizontal and Vertical Shift Options for Analog Output

I would need to see some lag test results before buying a device like that. Even the expensive Extron units introduce lag.

The Amiga core could really use this, IMO. Its positioned so far out compared to other cores!

Here's a particularly egregious example (VideoKid):

Notice that it is significantly shifted downwards, whereas normally on the Amiga you get a slight shift to the right:

Unfortunately no one seems to care about this. Kind of mind boggling that fundamental stuff like this goes unfixed. :(

The folks over at the English Amiga Board kindly helped to fix this. Simply change the .run file to this:

OK, I moved the ReshootProxima3 folder to "Saves/WHDSaves/MyGames/ReshootProxima3/". What is the exact syntax that should be in the .run file? I tried the following but am still getting the object not found error: execute "Saves/WHDSaves/MyGames/ReshootProxima3/reshootProxima3" The "reshootProxima3" is the executable i...

Also, I can not get the screenshot to display correctly in AGS:

I tried saving compressed and uncompressed from GIMP2 and Paint Shop Pro 6 but still same result.

Re: Add Games to MegaAGS?

I have the latest MegaAGS installed on my MiSTer. Can you please link to the instructions on how to add a new game to it? I just bought Reshoot Proxima 3 and want to add it to MegaAGS. The game has it's own HDD installer, but obviously that will only install to a new folder, not MegaAGS.

Re: IREM M72 & M84 Core (R-Type, R-Type II, Image Fight, Ninja Spirit, Gallop : Armed Police Unit)

About the Video Timing option in this core - does this only affect the vertical screen size / refresh rate or is game logic also affected by this setting? E.g. does the game run slightly slower at 50Hz compared to 55Hz?

It would be a big shame if this goes unnoticed as it's something that MAME has nailed for decades, and is clearly undesired behaviour.

Odd input behaviour when assigning multiple inputs to a single button

I have noticed some odd behaviour with inputs on MiSTer when assigning multiple inputs to a single button. Consider these two scenarios: R-Type A = shot, B = fire pod, C = A (set C to autofire = 32ms). The goal of this configuration is to allow for autofire of the shot (hold C) and allow for shot to be charged when holding A. Keep C held down then ...

Re: Rastan - game freeze at same point on most core alts

The freeze doesn't occur when the bats spawn, it only occurs at the point in stage 5 that I posted a photo of, and it only occurs in versions (i.e. most of them) which do not have the excessive bat spawing.

Rastan - game freeze at same point on most core alts

There seems to be two main variants of this game - one where you get swarmed with bats coming from all angles at certain points in each stage, and all the others variants, where you do not get swarmed. On all the variants where you do not get swarmed, the game crashes every single time at this point in stage 5: Kma1iSD.jpeg Now, I distinctly rememb...

Re: Why Are So Many Cores Missing Horizontal & Vertical Position Settings for CRTs?

Any idea exactly what Extron units I would be looking for that supports h / v position and h / v size? Presumably I need something that keeps all signals in the analogue domain or there is going to be lag introduced due to digital processing.

Re: Vigilante - weird screen size / location behaviour

dshadoff wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 3:10 pm

This is almost certainly something related to your TV, as there is no feedback channel from a CRT back to the MiSTer, so MiSTer has no way of knowing that you've done anything to your CRT (and thus cannot modify its behaviour on that basis).

If that was the case, then why are non of the other cores I tested affected?

Re: Why Are So Many Cores Missing Horizontal & Vertical Position Settings for CRTs?

For those on a mission there are also hardware solutions - some cheap Extrons let you manipulate H+, and there is also this RGBS adjuster (seems to work, though I haven't tried it with MiSTer myself so proceed with caution). I've seen people on reddit mention that those aliexpress devices result in reduced video quality. Would definitely be intere...

Re: Why Are So Many Cores Missing Horizontal & Vertical Position Settings for CRTs?

Overscan being difficult / impossible to implement is understandable, but it would be nice to see hori / vert adjustment settings in all cores. It would also be nice to see the max values of adjustment levels being increased too, as -7 to +7 isn't always enough to get the position right.

Would that be the jtframe_resync.v module? How difficult is it to change from 4-bit to 8-bit values? Haven't some cores already done this? I'm sure I've seen some that allow for values > 7

Re: Horizontal and Vertical Shift Options for Analog Output

About the values that core authors allow for vertical and horizontal offsets - can the max values be arbitrarily changed (in the source file) or is there a reason why those max values are set to those values? I notice that these max values are sometimes different between cores. I ask because on a few arcade cores, even when v/h offset is adjusted, ...

Re: Why Are So Many Cores Missing Horizontal & Vertical Position Settings for CRTs?

On my analogue setup at least, x, y positioning is a more significant issue than overscan. That is, for those cores that currently allow for x, y repositioning, once correctly positioned, overscan is rarely an issue. That said, full repositioning and image stretching would be the ideal situation. Two cores that come to mind that do have overscan is...

Why Are So Many Cores Missing Horizontal & Vertical Position Settings for CRTs?

This seems like such a fundamental feature that I am surprised that so many cores are missing it. Are core authors just not aware that there are many people using old CRTs or is it down to something else? E.g. limited memory, etc?

I managed to get ADFFS installed onto an HDF HDD image. Instructions on how to do it can be found here (see sirbod's first post):

https://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9246

However, it was mostly a waste of effort as hardly any of the protected games I tested worked on the Archie core.

Does anyone know how I can copy the ADFFS zip file from Arculator HostFS to my HDF image (both within Arculator)? I tried copying the zip from HostFS to my HDF image, but ArcFS will not open the file, even if I change the ADFFS zip type to DDC (ArcFS).
