Re: What Are the Reasons to Own a MiSTer Without a CRT?

Every single LCD TV, Monitor that I have owned, in the last 20 years, has died in some way - either just died, picture went fuzzy, black lines everywhere, or leaking black liquid in the bottom corners. Even my current PC monitor, an LG C1 OLED TV 48", is on it's way out - it keeps dimming now, and I have slight burn-in in the bottom corners, a...

Re: What Are the Reasons to Own a MiSTer Without a CRT?

What bollocks. Even my CRTs from 40 years ago, such as the Commodore 1701, 3x Amstrad CTM644s, Philips CM8833, all work perfect, and I've never had to mess with the yoke And, if you think the Mister's scanlines look anything like a real CRT, then you need to go to specsavers for an eye test. Seriously, some utter shite gets posted here, no wonder t...

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

That's a serious collection.. I really wished I'd kept all the computers I had growing up through the 80's and 90's.. but same old story, I sold one to buy the next.. it's only over the last few years I thought I'd like to have an Amiga again and/or an ST, ironically the MiSTer reignited my interest in 8/16bit machines. You are quite correct thoug...

Re: Vectrex Output to an Oscilloscope Through VGA Port

I don't think you could switch between vector and raster because you have to rewind/rewire the yoke. Also, I think he's using a custom controller board that only excepts X, Y, Z axis inputs, so no RGB for raster. I would pay a good amount of cash for someone, or some company, to mass-manufacture vector monitors, but sadly I think those days are lon...

And you get colour vectors using this method. Just wish I had the knowledge, and the balls to do myself, but even though I have many CRTs, they still scare the crap out of me.

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

I haven't, no. Basically, I got lucky, very early on in my life. For example, I have quite a few new-old-stock systems - Acorn Electron, Vectrex, Nintendo Gameboy DMG, Nintendo Gameboy Colour, Amstrad CPC 6128, to name a few, and I got these years before retro went mental, and prices skyrocketed. I also got many systems in their end-of-life pre--ow...

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

Most of my hardware is in it's original box, in perfect condition, and has all/most of the accessories that came with it. For example, I have 2 Atari 2600 consoles, both in their original box, but one of them is the rarer first version heavy 6-switch original UK version, in it's original box, with a CX10 (most come with the common CX40), the "...

So, yeah if you feel the need to box up and flog your original hardware.. go for it.. I'll be on ebay waiting to grab a bargain..

Where did I say I was going to sell my original hardware ?
If anything, it's my Mister that will go first.

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

I reject this arbitrary gatekeeping framing completely. Sorgelig and other devs have made plenty of great changes to make it easier to use overall. I made a (hopefully) more accessible documentation site because I'd rather have more people enjoy gaming on FPGA devices than to keep it relegated into obscurity for some kind of ego stroking session. ...

Re: Store All My Original Hardware and Use Only MiSTer

Keep your original hardware, nothing can match REAL hardware, not even the Mister. Real hardware has history, it's been made, sold, and used, back in the day - The Mister doesn't have this. In 10+ years time, your original hardware will be worth 2x what it's worth today, the Mister will be worth nothing. Mister is like emulation, it gives you a qui...

Re: Oric-1 / Atmos Core

The Oric didn't have a joystick connector, it needed Tangerine Computer Systems to develop their own, and it was fairly late in the Oric's life.
I believe only a handful of games supported joystick control, and Mr Wimpy was keys only. You might be able to map the stock Mr Wimpy keys to your joystick using Mister's joystick map function.

Nope.
You cannot have ONE controller for ALL systems, it's just not possible.
But, good luck, anyway.

It was a beauty, especially at that time. Other machines of the era that I personally think were great looking machines were, the Memotech MTX 500/512 - Such a slick looking machine for its time. 4 years ago, the Amiga core wasn't as good as it is today, so it might have had slowdowns in 2020.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

But, since you are using a flatscreen LCD, you could just use your PC to play these games, and use modern shaders to mimic CRTs, and it would all look, and run far better than across a network. There is nothing Mister is adding to your situation, it's actually down-grading everything just so you can run it across your network. The point of this cor...

But it's not for ANY screen, it's for CRT owners.
Plus, the Mister is limited by its own HDMI output, as it can barely do 1440p without Pixel Repetition, so it's never going to do 4k.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Eh ? What would be the point of this ? You can already do this, natively, with the PC running the original emulation, and shaders running on the PC. Bizarre. What if the PC is not powerful enough to run emulation + shaders? Like a RPI that might be fine to run the emulation, but might not be able to afford extra shaders, not with fps drops at leas...

Re: Expanding the forum to include other retro gaming?

A software emulation sub-forum would be interesting. However, how would that be an improvement to these forums? Because it would separate the emulation from the Mister Core topics, and I know I'm not alone in my love, and appreciation of modern emulation. It means if we need to bring up PC emulation, or Pi emulation, or whatever, then we can do wi...

Re: Expanding the forum to include other retro gaming?

Bristles, that is interesting. I've never personally had that problem at AtariAge, but I have been there a long time and perhaps don't post at all as much as others there to have been targeted. Though a big Atari fan, I dabbled with Commodore, but was totally turned off by some people at Lemon64 for similar reasons after merely a day to a week top...

Re: Expanding the forum to include other retro gaming?

It's not a cult, or a religion. You don't need to sanitise the forum so it's only Mister posts. We could quite happily have an emulation forum, because a lot of people still use emulation. The problem with Atariage is that, if you don't toe the line over there, the mods are on a total power trip, and target you. I personally think Atariage is full ...

One beauty of using an external USB HD is that, if you want to copy lots of large ISOs, you can just unplug it from the Mister, plug it straight into your PC, and copy over the files. Really fast, no network to deal with, and your SDCard can be used purely for the OS. But you can literally do the exact same thing with the SD card as well? No, not ...

They both have their advantages, and disadvantages. Pros for Pi - Cheap, tiny device, thriving community, thriving devs/coders/hobbyists, open source, etc.. easy to connect to CRT, or modern LCD. Cons - Not great for newer systems to emulate, such as Dreamcast, Saturn, MAME 3D systems, PS2, etc... Needs support, so Pi 5 won't be fully utilized for ...

To be fair, you don't need this core to use a Pi with a CRT, you can use a Pi hat, such as the Pi2SCART. Then you get to use whatever MAME, or emulator you want, and the resolution, and refresh rate should be the same as the original hardware.
