Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

By the way, has anyone bought the new Atari CX30+ paddles?

I'm interested in them since the plastic on my original paddles is brittle after those 40 years. Hopefully they are improved or at least the same as the originals.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Sure: Atari7800_input_04d8_f947_v3.zip (This is for the PDL adaptor; I had this working just fine with the D9 as well but was getting jitter so switched to using the PDL version) Thank you! I renamed your file to match my D9 and the MGL name. Then I got the first paddle axis and the second paddle button working as the first paddle. The other axis ...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Sorry, the P2 paddle button used to be labeled "Thumb" during mapping, but I just ran through it to check and it appears it was renamed to "Paddle Button" at some point (probably to make it clearer). In any case, the "Fire 2" button should be skipped as that is intended for the 2nd button on the 7800, and the p2 paddl...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

I tried the mappings file before I went into the button mappings.
I don't recall a "thumb" option to map, but I'll check again.
Anyway, it should have worked with at least one paddle, as I was mapping the button to Fire 1.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Yesterday I finally installed the D9 Mister firmware and tried again. It was a major waste of time! The mapping files didn't work. I mapped them through the menu assigning paddle buttons to A and B. I changed the core inputs to paddles and the option to have two paddles in the same controller. I mapped the paddle buttons to Fire1 through the core m...

I'll give D9 another try since MiSTer doesn't support the spinner I bought.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Could anyone share the D9 firmware that supports MiSTer?
The author pulled it down before I could download it.
And now his whole website seems to be gone.
I may not have the jitter problem since I'm using a Mean Well power source with the ground pin.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Was the 7800 core with Paddle SNAC support ever released?
There are some SNAC adaptors around with a switch to change between paddles and other analog inputs, so I guess there is some way to use it.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

I don't know about SNAC, I don't have any. But regarding D9, it could be solved on the mister side with a mister.ini entry to split a device in two based on its VID/PID. It would probably need some code specific to D9, as each button would have to go with one specific axis, and maybe some detection to do that only when the paddles are connected (jo...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Therein lies the problem approaching it from that end. A bespoke D9 firmware that a) doesn't work like real paddles do and b) isn't compatible with anything else because of a) isn't appealing. The current way D9 works is not like real paddles either. It detects if a joystick is connected and map its joystick directions to analog X and Y axis. The ...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

I also emailed him. He said all the switches combinations are already used and another alternative firmware would be another thing for him to maintain. He wouldn't actually need a MiSTer to implement the changes. It is just a matter of presenting the two paddles as two different controllers to the system instead of a single one. I think this is the...

Re: 1920x1200 & 1920x1440 Aspect Ratio Detection

I finally found out the root of this problem: MiSTer is sending a wrong VIC configuration in the AVI InfoFrame. Apparently, the automatic VIC detection of the HDMI chip (ADV7513) fails when we set resolutions or frequencies above its specifications. According to its specs, the limit is 165 MHz and 1920x1080. When MiSTer is set to 1920x1440, the VIC...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

SNAC doesn't work for paddles because they require analog input. There is a workaround using the ADC In, but it is not supported by the 7800 core. There is more info on this topic some pages behind.

You're being overly aggressive here. People are entitled to give their opinions in an Internet forum whether you like it or not. I get it, Atari 2600 is your favorite system. It was my first system and I care a lot about it. But I won't act like someone is cursing my mother just because he/she is suggesting the old core is retired. The important th...

- different scanlines/shadow masks/etc. settings for SMS and Game Gear

That's what I meant by OSD on MiSTer. Both my case and my IO board say 'OSD' instead of Menu.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

You're probably right. I think it says "Menu" when assigning the buttons.
But I remember reading something like "Hold OSD to cancel" during the assignment, probably because the MiSTer button says OSD.

Anyway, any Bluetooth or USB controller with Menu assigned or the OSD button on MiSTer should work for skipping buttons.

You can skip buttons by pressing OSD on MiSTer or another controller. This way you can also map only the paddle button of any paddle. However, at least in my case, only the second paddle button will work even after mapped.

However, this only works if the second paddle is assigned as 1A. If ...
