Re: SDRAM Usage
"Economy" is a very important factor for some people, myself included. If somebody told me that I need to buy all this stuff which throAU quoted (spending 2-3 times as much as I actually have) I would've never bothered with MiSTer.

Re: SDRAM Usage
Most people won't really need I/O board, USB hub, or a large HDD. They might also already have stuff like controllers or SD cards. In reality, a setup which will allow you to experience ~98% of MiSTer's library is available for well under 200USD. Extra 40USD in this case is quite a lot. There is a m...

Re: sdram usage
In the scheme of things the cost of 128 isn’t that much more (given postage cost, other boards, etc) and some stuff needs it. I just bought the 128 straight up to eliminate any future issues of “is this not working because it needs more ram or have I screwed something up?” ~40 USD is a significant ...

Yes, that's the point. It got fixed in X becasue the original one wasn't intentional. This perhaps deserves its own thread though...the_importer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 2:57 pm I thought Metal Slug X was the slowdown solution of Metal Slug 2.

Re: What new console, handheld or arcade core do you think will be released in 2021?
What is the gameplay like without the slowdown accuracy? It's actually one of the projects that some have undertaken to remove slowdown from these types of games. The issue of slowdown in arcade games is rather complex. In some games it might've been intentional, in others not so much, and down to ...

What does it actually mean "updating the framework", in laymans terms? Basically, updating the core with latest additions and improvements?

Re: SHMUP Slowdown / Accuracy of Arcade Cores
You can use Groovymame with just about any ATI card these days, modern ones included. For sure, MiSTer is much better when it comes to single games, mostly in terms of simplicity because setting up a crtemudriver-capable rig is a lot of work. The zero-lag matters as well, though imo not as much as p...

Re: VGA (RGBHV) to SCART (csync) options
It's an interesting option, but to be honest, if you just want to output to SCART and don't need I/O board for other stuff, it's much cheaper to use Direct Video. This way you just need the DAC dongle + cable = 30E. Another product, which I think does the same job that VGA2SCART is ArcadeForge's UMS...

Re: Getting your HDMI2VGA working with MiSTer
This Ugreen was reported as working fine by other users, so the problem might be with your TV, or rather the combination of all three (MiSTer/Ugreen/TV). Some TVs seem to be sensitive to some MiSTer+I/O or adapter combos.

Re: issues gettings output on crt tv via ioboard and rgb scart cable
The image quality on older TV sets is a lottery, there's no guarantee that you will get one which looks very good - even if it's a decent brand like B&O. Most of them are ~20 (or more) years old so that's to be expected. But a TV in a good shape should look better than a monitor with added scanlines...

Re: Apple II Core
I'm really happy that I have never bothered with retro-Apple before (residue of my general Apple-hating). It's such a huge library to explore. It seems that the "border" might not really be a border but 2x original hi-res resolution, reporting 560x386 on my PC VGA CRT monitor. Which has the lowest 6...

Re: VGA to RGB SCART UK?
Right. Thanks for the schematic. It seems I will have to do it myself eventually, though it looks terrifying :D I'm still curious if it's better to use a potentiometer resistor, so you can adjust it on the fly? And if you still need this 470Ihm resistor, as voltage protection (the perennial question...

Re: Apple II Core
Apple 2 cheap(er)? Umm...I'm not even sure if that's true in the US, definitely not here in the EU. Even so, there are zillions of cheap C64 or ZXs, for example, yet these cores are fairly well developed. It is interesting though, given how popular, and pioneering the AII was. It's similar when it c...

Re: Apple II Core
How accurate is this core? Aprat from the write disk support (a big one) are there any other important features missing? I have zero experience with Apple machines so can't tell if something is a glitch or not working because of the core itself, or if that's how it was originally (or needs some sett...

Re: 15hz CRT support through CGA/EGA card simulation?
Thanks for the pics. It's an interesting solution, but for me that issue with VGA scaling is still a major obstacle. I remain hopeful it can be fixed one day. HDMI to SVideo/composite converter...hmmm. I've spent some time researching it back in the day, though that was more about 240p. The one you ...

Re: Let's talk about Scart
Things I'm interested in, as a Direct Video user: -are there any known differences between outputting via I/O and Direct Video? -is MiST cable really different from the MiSTer one, and if it is, how can it affect things? -is the 470 Ohm resistor described in Direct Video wiki really needed, if I con...

Re: Let's talk about Scart
I also had to do a lot of searching to find this information. I was surprised a lot of people recommend using a MiST SCART cable which does NOT have the same pinout on the VGA connector. So how come it works perfectly with every core I've tested, apart from the ST? I agree that finding info about i...

Re: Direct Video Output
I don't really see how cables could be "picky", at least ones from a professional seller (Lotharek makes MiST boards). I doubt this is really the issue. We are also using the same cores. Perhaps it's something about the DAC, but mine works fine with everything else, so... who knows :) Anyway, thanks...

Re: Direct Video Output
Atari ST core works fine with Direct Video and 15Khz horizontal sync. I can confirm you this because is my actual config with GEM´s medium and low resolution. If I choose high resolution then I need to plug in a 31KHz monitor. For the sake of clarity, my setup is: HDMI to VGA adapter and VGA---->Sc...
