Re: A New Apple II Game Collection

Long overdue... V1.0 (03-2024) is the second release which: -adds some games previously only available as .wav files -reorganizes the structure -adds A-Z version -cleans up some minor errors, duplicates, etc It's mostly housekeeping, seeing as this is a low-priority project for me, and the to-do tasks are either beyond my skills or too big in scale...

Re: TI-994a How-To

PSA: the excellent CRPG for TI, Realms Of Antiquity is currently on sale at 10$ (till 29th of March). It's bundled with an emulator, so you can play it on Windows. https://adamantyr.itch.io/realms-of-antiquity-the-shattered-crown Q: Does anybody know how to get it running on this core? I tried messing around with SAMS, TIPI and some assorted roms, ...

Re: N64 Core

No game can currently be considered cycle-accurate to the original hardware but most are perceptually indistinguishable outside of some edge-cases. How does that relate to the data from various compatibility sheets from https://vampier.net/N64/? Only few games are marked "perfect", a something like a quarter "completable" and t...

My .atr works fine, perhaps you should look for another one. My OSD settings: XL+Basic, 64kb, NTSC (but I guess PAL should work too). Boots with F8+F10.

The way I see it, this MiSTer core has better compatibility and hardware accuracy than most N64 software emulators

I'd like to know whether this is actually true (but have a feeling it'll be hard to find out).

I just checked it on a CRT (Direct Video to PVM BNC) and it works OK. It's been some time, but I'm pretty sure I didn't need to intialize it on HDMI first - though YMMV of course and maybe you should try it.

Re: Community sourced game list for AO486 Top 500

Hi! My wife is interested in playing Digger 1983. Do I need anything besides a rom to play this game? There are no "roms" for PCs, so it depends on what file do you have. If it's a HDD install (DC) you'd need to put it on bootable VHD with MS DOS. If it's a "PC booter" ie floppy image then you can just try and mount it as a flo...

Re: Multiple Custom Controller Layouts in a Single Core

The "just get another controller/use keyboard/it wasn't meant to be played this way" arguments in regard to this topic are non sequiturs and so completely redundant. Might as well say "just play on original hardware". This request is about a QoL feature, not unlike many others already present on MiSTer. So I'd much rather hear s...

If there's a restriction, then it was probably placed there for a reason. This is not really a cracking forum. I'm all up for distributing old games, but Next is a current, active affair, and going against the wishes of its creators would be bad manners, so to speak.

Another game collection? Sure why not. Yeah, the more the merrier. Nice work! I mostly prefer to go through the pain of installing and configuring games on my own vhds, but wouldn;t mind having some ready made (but relatively small) options as well. If I just grab some individual vhds/img sets from your collection will they work out of the box, or...

Nah one button joystick games have to be played on one button with up for jump. Feels alien to play them any other way. The rolling of a joystick in the diagonals on a platformer cant never be replaced imho I grew up with microcomputers & joysticks and have always hated them, especially the up-to-jump mechanic (to the point I seriously missed ...

Thank you for all this links!

Best would be a collection like the MegaAGS for the Amiga.

In theory you could download them all and put on a vhd, but I think many of the authors prefer distribution through their own channels such as itch.io (even for the "free" games).

I also have no idea how to run this on the Spectrum core. Trying to run it on the ZXNext core just gives me a 'cannot load TBBLUE.FW' error. Adding that file to the games/ZXNext folder does nothing. To recap, on the ZX Spectrum core you need to: -unpack it to /media/fat/games/Spectrum and change the extension name to .vhd. -make sure you have the ...

When I was a kid, in our local arcade somebody figured out you could skip the first level by climbing the first ladder, going right a little and sort of back jumping. Mario then would kind of fall through the edge instead of crashing. Has anybody ever heard of this trick? It was nearly 40 years ago and my recollection of it is pretty hazy but I'm p...

Some CRT sets are sensitive to MiSTer's output resulting in anomalies. Things to try I can think of:
-check again your ini is really the latest one here: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_Mi ... MiSTer.ini
-try without the VGA_PWR jumper
-get one of the decent Direct Video dongles and see what happens

Ironically enough though, AO486 doesn't natively output proper resolutions over VGA and has to run through the scaler, resulting in some sketchy image quality on a real VGA CRT. I dug up my old 17" monitor to play Indiana Jones a few months ago and was bummed out by the results. I gave up and just played it over HDMI with some nice filters Yo...

It seems a bit finicky, as in the core can sometimes get into a bad state and won't respond in the same way, but usually a cold reboot (going back to MiSTer menu) seems to work fine. If you mean my image, there is a bug which makes keyboard operations freeze sometimes unless SPACE is pressed. It's got something to do with using bob_fossil's LFN br...
