That's the first thing i saw too, there is no composite blend anymore, only full composite filter in all screen. I'm sure it will be adapted quickly.

Tried the composite blend on the new core, and it definitely blurred the image a good bit, at least on the analog output. Maybe not as blurry as a real Genesis over composite, though.

Finally got back home and tested it with the 9/15 core. Adaptive composite blend is most certainly not present in the Nuked-MD core. The whole point of adaptive is the screen remains nice ...

Composite dithering is not the only reason to use composite. The fact that every NES developer worked with composite in mind is a major and bigger reason.

While it can not replicate the adaptive blend feature, using a blurry horizontal video filter seems to achieve a similar effect.
To my eyes the GS interpolation set to around 20-30 looks similar to the composite blend filter.
I'm not sure what the differences are on a technical level though.

Composite Blend?

Since the original Nes and the much respected AV Famicom were originally composite-only, I think this should be the case for the core to offer a composite blend option like the Mega Drive core.
Many games were designed with the composite effects in mind.

... and it's been FANTASTIC! It feels so right to have 8 and 16 bit consoles have the composite artifacting. Especially Genesis, which is too jarring to me via RGB; I find the sharp dithering distracting. The composite blend setting helped, but it doesn't do what real composite does. I can't get enough of it!

Even if sonic gets some benefit from blending in very particular screens, it's not worths to enable it if it cannot detect the places ... This is subjective. I play all Genesis games with full blend. Looks like the latest Shadow Mask update has removed the "Old TV" option from some of Jotego's arcade cores. I'll miss that feature. So much nostalgia! Same reason I love having the composite blend on the Genesis core. :)

Any suggestions for filters & shadow mask combos to achieve a similar look?

I will need some examples of games where issues can be seen to figure best way to blend them and/or if any potential fixes for adaptive blend are working. I created pull request for this feature https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/PSX_MiSTer/pull/1

Please feel free to refactor it as you see fit. I am still learning so the design might not be optimal.
