Re: LG OLED C9 MiSTer FPGA 1440p (6x) Help

Maybe. But scanlines+masks looks far better in 1440p. A native 1440p display would be perfect, but 1440p scales most CRT filter nicely on a 4K display. I'm talking about the faux-2560x1440 pixel doubling option, like you seem to be stuck with on the C9. You're getting only half the horizontal resolution on masks, never mind much less room to inter...

Wonder if we're going to get the madness of an AmigaVision rigged up to emulate most of the CD library now on an A1200. :P Alternatively maybe a little more core work can get us booting ISOs and such.

Re: LG OLED C9 MiSTer FPGA 1440p (6x) Help

There is a 2560x1440 Mister mode you can try (mode=14?). However this is achieved by horizontal pixel doubling, so in effect its more like 1280x1440, thanks to limitations of Mister's scaler as mentioned. Most of the time I think one is better off with 1920x1080 compared to that, especially on a 4K display.

Re: Image Goes Black for 1 Second

Also, systems like PlayStation do switch resolutions all the time. Going from in game to a menu to a fmv will do it. Chrono Cross is one of the biggest offenders. Now genesis may not, I’m also assuming it’s completely random. If you’re using some video adapter is it powered? Is it getting enough power? Yes I'm speaking only of Genesis. It has a 25...

Re: Image Goes Black for 1 Second

All good questions, but... This sounds like a sync \ resolution change issue. Short of flipping between PAL and another region, once a Genesis cart is running the analog timing is not going to change. Although some people have reported funkiness with sync-on-green and certain TVs, where the average brightness in certain scenes can destroy your sync.

Remember someone complaining about lack of CD Amiga support as evidence of "bias" and I pointed out that Neo-Geo also lacked CD support. Well we recently got NGCD support and it looks like Amiga is following in short order! Love to all the great devs contributing to this platform!

Re: Any Thoughts About This Resolution?

How are you going to show scanlines on flat panel without something near at least 480p as your final output? Bare minimum is you need 2x the pixels in height to show anything like that at all! If you want to use the GBS to manage your scanlines/upscaling instead of mister, you can just take the VGA analog out (or maybe direct_video) 240p into the G...

Does this actually scale better than say 1080p/1440p? This seems like madness :p

I would probably try forced_scandoubler=1 if you wanted something close to the original resolution that was more widely HDMI compatible.

Re: Best monitor resolution?

4K is only a perfect 3X scale if you output 720p from the msiter, which does not look great if you apply shaders and shadow masks. And that's assuming your monitor has an integer scaling option, many simply don't. 1440p is about the sharpest you will ever get out of a monitor with mister and will show max detail for those scanlines/shadow masks. If...

Re: Best monitor resolution?

I agree with 1920x1200 being very nice, assuming the other monitor qualities are equal. At 1080p you have to rely on cropping to hit 5x. For 1440p you are practically limited to 1920x1440 so its going to be a lot of black space, even though it would be a bit sharper. With freesync support on mister now I would also keep an eye for that, with a rang...

Re: Larger image on CRT?

Its going to deliver horrible, uneven pixels or a blurry mess. 240p doesn't give you enough resolution to scale well, and your best bet by far is just using the default analog output. Or maybe the Super Gameboy core for nice borders. This is assuming you are talking about a standard definition CRT. You can get much higher resolutions with PC VGA mo...

Code: Select all

direct_video=0
video_mode=1920,240,60,cvt
vscale_adjust=0

In core menu set aspect ratio = wide/full and scaling = normal

All that 50/55hz stuff works perfectly on my LG C1 in freesync. So its not like there is some general VRR problem with mister. Its not interacting well with your specific TV model for whatever reason.

One thing you could try is playing with your output resolution. Try 1080p, and maybe supply cvt and non-cvt modes. e.g.

video_mode=1920,1080,60,cvt

Lots of cheap Extron equipment available on ebay now that was used in professional CRT applications. You should be able to find something that can do some position adjustment there and deliver fairly good quality.

Try vga_scaler=1 and vsync_adjust=0. If that works, its probably that the LCD can't handle the SNES's refresh rate, which is slightly above 60hz.

AO486 doesn't have a real analog output, you have to set up a video_mode. See the thread in that forum about plain/15khz TV for some suggested resolutions. I thought archimedes is inherently high resolution computer so could be tough to use well on a 15khz display. At least most DOS 200p games in AO486 map pretty well to SD resolutions. The vast ma...

Re: Connecting both a CRT tv and a led tv through direct video using a scaler

You can't put HDR or VRR into an analog signal, you're absolutely going to lose that stuff doing HDMI->VGA conversion (or pulled directly from the mister's own VGA out.) The second issue is that you are going to lose sync-on-green doing direct video, which will mess up your component breakout cables. You need a circuit or device to add sync-on-gree...

Re: AmigaVision/MegaAGS 2023.06.06 Released with Favorites & Analogue Pocket Support

If you use vertical integer scaling, 1200p isn't enough of a change to modify the output resolutions. (1080/4, 5, or 6). So the effective output should be the same as with 1080p. You can still use 1200p video signal if that suits your display better, but its just going to be larger black borders on top and bottom.

For integer scaling, most cores seem to expect vertical resolution to be the limiting factor, which makes sense for 4:3 cores displayed in 16:9 container. If the limiting factor is instead horizontal resolution (which you would expect in the GBA 2p core), things can get weird, as I've seen when saying trying to put the lynx or GBA inside a 4:3 outp...

If you want a preview? of emusc, Trevor0402's soundfont is pretty interesting. Its likewise based on direct ROM dumps from SC-55 mkII hardware, not recordings, but there's quite a bit of extra effort needed to clean things up that probably isn't ever happening to the SF2. There's a slighty tweaked version here that lowers the chorus/reverb defaults...

Absolutely not. The video filters/ shadow masks are kind of limited for this reason. Only messing with vsync_adjust or say rotation in arcade games is going to have an impact.

Yes, you need to adjust the overscan setting on your TV, which is unfortunately named a bunch of different thing these days. But usually its something like screen size or screen fit, or possible even one of the "wide" modes.

for cores you need to set vsync_adjust=0 so it uses your 120hz. Otherwise its going to drop down to the core's 60hz, which is probably too low a refresh for your 31khz VGA monitor (I'm assuming.)

I would bet with the "input 480p" they had in mind using the scandoubler rather than the scaler. vga_scaler=0, forced_scandoubler=1. That's 31khz output in most cores. Still the Mister itself is capable of scaling 240p/15khz resolutions. For example, vga_scaler=1, video_mode=640,244,60,cvt. Use aspect ratio = full/wide in the core, and tu...

I use a Commodore 1084 15Khz monitor with RGB SCART. It has a slot mask, like most vintage arcade machines seem to have. And a big advantage of it is that you can easily shift and resize the image, using knobs on the outside of the monitor. This is especially handy with arcade cores and the Amiga core.

Well that sure explains a lot! :lol:
