Re: Emulation available for Roland MT-32 or other more advanced sound cards?
Actually, Roland MT-32 / CM-32L support is now built in to MiSTer thanks to Midilink . The Munt emulator runs on the Arm processor on the DE-10. You will need to supply your own copies of MT32_CONTROL.ROM and MT32_PCM.ROM by putting them into the /media/fat/linux/mt32-rom-data/ directory. After firing up ao486, open Menu (Win+F12), and change UART ...

I was able to start up MechWarrior 1, but after trying to recruit people at the bar I get this lovely mess. Not sure if it's the game or something else.
The MT-32 sound comes through beautifully though!

Awesome list! Thanks for compiling it. I ran into trouble with Champions of Krynn and figured it out on my own, but I wish I had this list when I was looking!

Re: Networking Under MS-DOS
I'm still having issues. I set up a new VHD and clean installed DOS 6.22, but MTCP still can't ping anything. My CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF DOS=HIGH,UMB FILES=30 LASTDRIVE=Z My AUTOEXEC.BAT: @ECHO OFF SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T3 SET SOUND=C:\SB PATH C:\DOS;C:\UTILS\MXDIR;C:\UTILS\ZIPPING; SET TEMP=C:\DOS...

Thanks for adding this Sorgelig! I love the sound of a CMS setup -- it's more chiptuney, like a really advanced GameBoy or something. Much appreciated!

Re: Useful Tools in MS-DOS
My favorite DOS utility has long been MaxDir . Add it to your path (or in the old days I'd just put it in my DOS folder, haha) and start using "di" instead of "dir". It will show you all of your files in columns and with colors helping you to find what you need immediately. I prefer to have it always show all files in Uppercase ...

Re: VGA Output, Scalers, and CRTs
Yeah, I have been hoping to do this as well... with the scaler it seems a bit pointless to use a CRT monitor I think. I did get VGA working with the variable refresh rate, but anything using SVGA would not work at all. But that was Cache 24 or something last time I tried using a CRT. Yeah - I love using my MiSTer with CRTs. The lack of shimmering ...

Re: Starting-point DOS configuration for ao486 and all features (instructional)
This is a really fantastic thread and guide for people new to DOS or who need a refresher. Thanks for putting it together rhester72! Another "Ease of Use" utility is MaxDir: https://www.c-shore.com/maxdir/ , a fantastic continuation of HotDir. Stick the contents in your DOS directory (or put them in their own directory and add it to the P...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache
Was mentioned here by Cebion the 26th of July : https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=680&p=6436&hilit=backspace#p6436 Yes, that is how I found out. Still a lot more helpful if its something that is explained in the menu, rather than on some forums. Especially on page 10 of a 22 page thread! 🤣 It could be as simple as, in the Win...

Re: Networking Under MS-DOS
Do you have the 'SET MTCPSLIP=true' line at the top of your mtcp config? and are you using the 'ping' command from the mtcp package? I've tried setting that in the mtcp config and then I tried setting it in the Autoexec as well, but neither worked. Yes, I'm using the ping command from the mtcp package. I'm going to try setting up a fresh VM with n...

Re: Networking Under MS-DOS
Here's how to get the mTCP TCP/IP applications up and running under DOS with the ao486 core: ...snip for length... This is a really great tutorial, but I'm running into a problem: I can't ping anything. After I run epppd com1 115200 local , it says Installed packet driver handler at vector 0x60. But if I try to ping even 192.168.1.1, it times out....

Re: Networking Under MS-DOS
I used to run a SearchLight BBS many years ago and found it pretty friendly, but that was in the days of dial-up (SearchLight 4.5b). I believe SearchLight 5.x had telnet support, but was also considered a little buggy. It's probably not the greatest choice, but it's the one that would be most nostalgic for me. :D Plus it supports RipTerm, the vecto...

Re: Virtual Boy
This is mostly a +1 for "would like a VB core"... I have a few Virtual Boys and a complete boxed US collection + some homebrew, but MiSTer is so much easier to set up... heh. I really do love the 3D effect though. I feel like VB games miss a lot by not having it. But I would still rather more people have access to Wario Land... I really w...

Re: Why OpenCore Plus UART?
I almost forgot, I use this modem .inf for Win95. Maybe that helps... mdmcisco.zip Thank you for sharing that modem driver! It works when I use the "Null Modem Cable" device from that driver. I just set up a dial up ppp connection using the Windows 95 internet connection wizard. I entered 1111111111 as phone number, I had to ensure that ...

Re: Macintosh Plus Setup
The core itself seems to run fine for me... I don't think sound works though, unfortunately. Are you running sound through hdmi or the audio jack on the I/o board? It works for me through the audio jack. Try glider. I didn't even think about my audio pathway, haha. I'm using one of the HDMI to VGA adapters. When I start the core, I hear a high pit...

Re: Macintosh Plus Setup
I set up my Mac Plus core over the last few days using the instructions on the core's repo page. There was a lot of trial and error, but here are some hints that will maybe help someone else: 1. The disk image that they link to in the repo is for 6.0.5. If you just follow the default install instructions, you will also need a Disk 2 and Disk 3 (&qu...

I would also love an NGPC core! It would give more people a chance to play Faselei!
