Re: Vga scaler and horizontal scanlines on CRT VGA PC monitor
1) You must use scandoubler *IF* using "original" analog output (vga_scaler=0 on the VGA port, of direct_video=1 on an HDMI->VGA adapter.) 2) vga_scaler=1 will let you use the scaler on the VGA port, so you can turn scandoubler off. It will use whatever resolution in your video_mode. 3) Varies based on what your monitor can do. For horiz...

Re: eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack, is it possibile to add game and/or localized version of a game?
1) Yes, use the top item in the menu that says --Manually Added Games. That will bring you over to Launchbox and you can add you custom games over there. It's not a perfect solution but it was what I could do at the time. 2) yes, just overwrite what is in E:/games/DUNE1992 or add you game along side it and modify the DUNE 1_start.bat script to hav...

Re: Vga scaler and horizontal scanlines on CRT VGA PC monitor
Scandoubler and vga_scaler are two functions that are independent. Scandoubling turns the 15kHz TV-compatible signal into a 31kHz VGA CRT-compatible signal. In order to use your monitor, scandoubling is sufficient. The scaler works on the image produced by the core and scales it to fit into a fixed resolution. It is normally active on the HDMI out...

Re: Apple II Core
Hi All, Had a tinker with the Apple II core over the weekend. Got the write working ok in the disk ii module. Was able to write a sector using CIA utilities and read it back ok. Though it might make more sense to download the whole NIB disk image to RAM, rather than a track at a time. Tried that, but there are not enough free 10K RAM blocks availa...

Apple II Core - Keyboard problems with Transylvania!
Hi all! I'm trying to play with various Transylvania versions on Apple II Core but I've got a problem: when I try to type in the commands the keyboard is like "stuck" and the letter appears only after many seconds. The (bluetooth) keyboard works perfectly well in all cores (including Apple II core) and even in Transylvania game when, at t...

Vga scaler and horizontal scanlines on CRT VGA PC monitor
Hi! Usually I use my MISTer with a Sony PVM but to play the computer cores I've bought a 17" CRT VGA PC Monitor, the LG Studioworks 700S (https://mobilespecs.net/monitor/LG/LG_Studioworks_700S.html). I use the Vga analog output. I've set the MISTer.in this way: vga_scaler=1 forced_scandoubler=1 vscale_mode=1 video_mode=6 I've noticed that outp...

eXoFlynn Top 300 DOS Pack, is it possibile to add game and/or localized version of a game?
First of all THANKS for this beautiful work! I have two questions before finally install this pack on my Mister: 1) can I add my own game of choice (for example I would like to add Celtics vs. Lakers that work with MT32) ? 2) can I add a localized versione of an existing game? (for example I would like to add the Italian version of Dune)? ? Many th...

Re: Vga splitter: how?
An unpowered analog splitter is asking for trouble, yes. You're only going to get half the signal power to each output. Only switchers will deliver acceptable picture without power. If you have an analog I/O board then keep in mind you have two video outputs, an analog VGA port and a digital HDMI. You can get an HDMI->analog converter and use the ...

Re: Vga splitter: how?
You should buy a powered splitter, these days they will have a usb port for power. They work great for 15 kHz and 31 kHz in my experience. Of course your target monitors will all have to support the single resolution being output from the source. I use a ugreen splitter from Amazon. As you can see from link I’ve posted, my splitter is a powered ug...

Vga splitter: how?
Hi! I want to "split" the video signal of Mister coming to Vga to Start to multiple CRT monitors (1 PVM, 1 Philips and 1 Pc CRT monitor) I own. So I've bought on Amazon this Vga splitter (https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B01F37AVWQ/) but the quality of the final video is HORRIBLE! Maybe I need a switcher instead of splitter? Meaning that,...

Yes, although my 2005 version needed to be replaced to work without crashing, I am quite happy now with how well it works. Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
OK, I've compiled another version with the vsync signal moved to match what's in Charles MacDonald's SMS specs when in PAL 256x192 mode. If I'm right about this, that should move the active image down to match what the actual console is putting out. I also adjusted the vertical border size to match, so it's 54 lines above and 48 below. I don't thi...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
The Mister image is still shifted to the upper part of the screen, even though the black is now filled in. I see differences in colour brightness, like I saw with mine. Although, yours looks the opposite, the Mister looks brighter. The black outlines in the original, are now grey in the Mister shot. Also, does the aspects look different ? Or is th...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
I think this might actually be an inaccuracy in the handling of PAL mode in the SMS core. A PAL video signal has 576 lines (dropped to 288 by the I've compiled with this and it seems to have worked, at least in terms of giving a 48 line border above and below in PAL mode. Here's the RBF . I don't have a CRT to try it out on, so if you could give i...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
Yeah, the bars were black bars, both top and bottom. I could make the games fullscreen using the Philip's front controls, but then every other system would be too stretched. I tried 4 Alex Kidd games. Miracle World, Shinobi World, Lost Stars, and High-Tech World. I will also say, some games have bigger borders than others, so it looks like the Mas...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
Me too I suspect it is Rf vs RGB behavior but we can be sure of this only if we can watch a video with a real Sega Master System playing Alex Kidd on RGB...Did you try Alex Kidd? If it has a bottom black border on your setup, then maybe it really is composite vs RGB thing (people in these videos seem to be using RF or composite).

Thanks!I hooked up my Master System 1 to my Philips 8833 Mk2 using an RGB Scart cable, and almost every game I tried had a border at the bottom.
Is it a bottom BLACK border as tall as that on Mister?

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
First of all, THANKS to you all for the replies! First I will make some clarifications, then I'll ask some questions. Clarifications: In the Sms Core Running Alex Kid Eu rom the region is set to PAL, the border option is set to Yes. The picture is NOT shifted up. It is a the same top level of RF picture: if I move down the picture I'm having a blac...
