Re: Is the Noctua Fan Quiet? What Are Other Ways of Reducing Noise on MiSTer?

Try lowering the voltage to the fan before changing it. Any fan, including Noctua, makes noise at high RPM.

Re: MegaAGS 2022.06.06 Available

I don’t think access to the shared folder and/or vadjust.dat is the issue here actually. There are failsafes in place to handle that (or at least, that’s the idea :) ). Still, it’s a puzzling error. Not being able to “open screen” (that is, initialize a screen mode and allocate memory) is something I’ve not encountered reports on before. Having inc...

Re: Extracting LHA Files Using WB 1.3

The default path for the “transfer” directory is games/Amiga/shared.

But the simplest option is probably copying the files to an ADF image using an emulator.

Re: MegaAGS 2022.06.06 Available

The “dynamic crop” feature relies on the MiSTer shared folder to be activated. By default this happens automatically if you have a directory called “shared” in games/Amiga. There is an ini option to set this to something else, and if so just make sure that the directory you set exists on the filesystem. Also, using USB or network share may throw in...

It’s worth noting that the “Sync 480i for HDMI” setting needs to be turned OFF to have interlaced video being correctly output over an analog connection.

The readme assumes you have a 1080p screen and makes it sound like these settings are 100% correct for everyone: "Again, make sure to add the Minimig core overrides in MiSTer.ini as specified in the previous section to enjoy the best HDMI output possible, and make sure you have set MiSTer to output in 1080p resolution." Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

MegaAGS generally requires 68020 and AGA. Some things may work with 68000, but it’s not a supported configuration. If you want 68000, use ADFs and Kickstart 1.2 or 1.3. (2.0 will work too, but breaks many games). Use the included configuration for MegaAGS. That's what I did, but then I changed to 68000 on the fly, right before loading a game from ...

Yes, I believe so. But someone would have to put in the work, of course.
Ideally “someone” would have to open source the format first. Software Preservation Society who invented/governs the format is pretty much as Amiga (in the anti OSS notion) as it gets.

Re: Game Glitches on MegaAGS

I fooled around a bit with making a MegaAGS variant for 68000/OCS, but it proved too slow and limited to be worthwhile. So the choice is between the speed and convenience of MegaAGS (or other way of launching WHDL installs on a 68020/AGA setup) and the compatibility and complete library you get with 68000/OCS and ADFs. Luckily it’s very easy to swi...

Another point is that the Mister default shared filesystem is unavailable, and it's possible that device driver might throw errors. Another thought I had while messing around was that WinUAE does its shared directory support by providing a d...

Hmm. It sounds like the minimig core doesn’t transparently use the SMB share if available. Maybe the config stores full absolute paths? I’ve never used SMB with MiSTer so I couldn’t say, but it sounds like something worth looking into.

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

The first PS2 games were crap and even friends who made the night in Tokyo in front of the store to buy one at launch used it at first as a DVD player, as the games were just shit. Nah, Ridge Racer V is still one of my favorite games ever, and TTT holds up really well too (although the heavily improved NTSC/UC version is the one to play of course).

Re: Pipeline Minigame in Oil Imperium - unable to control mouse

MegaAGS should include the latest WHDL installs, but it’s worth to double check this one perhaps.

But it’s quite likely that the timing fixes merely makes sure that the game polls at the original frequency regardless of hardware setup. So fixing this would require work on the mouse input parts of Minimig.

Check the Aladin WHDLoad folder first for games to add… 😎😎 There's lots of neat stuff there, and I've added things from it I consider notable but that don't have bespoke WHDL adaptions. For example the missing games in Bill Williams' gameography. However, I don't think we'll add the whole thing in bulk since there's a much higher risk of incompati...

Haha, I can imagine that, I often got rusty at things way faster than I expected. I've heard people rave about Amiga E before, sad that it didn't really seem to catch on. The problem is that the option to force pal is not permanent, when restarting the core everything looks bad again. If you are using the image with US CRTs that usually don’t support PAL, you would be in trouble. It has to ...
