Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

Thank you, both for answering and your efforts with the Freeware VHD. Is it a common issuen with 27 and not being able to run in 100Mhz? I have begun testing 27 and I do not seem to have had any issues with 100Mhz yet. I have not even lowered it from 100Mhz so far. Tried running Settlers 2 and Shadow Warrior. Can you try Windows 98, at 100Mhz with...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

After changing from 26 to 27, I am not able to run with 100Mhz anymore, only start up with 90 or below. Anyone else having that issue? Which ET4000 Bios to recommend? Can it be a generic ISA one like found here: http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1531&menustate=0 Or better use the ET4000w32 (which should be the VLB Version?) mentioned ...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

master of Orion did finally start, but I only hear Audio and the Dos Screen stays, but the font colors change from red to blue or.. rainbow colors. Using the Tseng Vesa Driver TLIVESA , (Vesa 1.2) on AO486 Cache 24 Version, also put the Mister file that came with it in place. Vikings: Field of Conquest is still refusing to sart and crashes the syst...

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

True, and some Games already run faster then on an 486, some are performing below expectations, I do have an IT background but no clue about x86 implementation a´la Boch in Mister. Not sure if Bus Speed is even taken into consideration :)

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

ISA Bus speed was 8Mhz, VLB up to 50Mhz (only safe up to 40Mhz) and PCI afaik 33Mhz, so how does a 160CPU interfere with that?

Neither my 486DX 50 nor my Pentium I 90Mhz had that issue. Soundblaster Pro with Wavetable, also never heard of that issue actually.

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

I used the Floppy Images on Archive.org

I own warcraft (and every follow up + expansion plus console releases) , but I haven´t owned a 3,5" Floppy since ages.

Does Doesbox have specific meomory settings for warcraft? (xms / ems) ?

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

Runs faster, but it did Crash on me while using Qemm386.

With XMS running Doom -timedemo demo3 gave me 1091 gametics in 1853 realtics

And the Adlib Cards isn´t responding. Tried that music with Soundblaster and Adlib config. SFX works fine. No issues in other games afaik.

Seems a new L1 Cache is being implemented.

Which version of the Core are you referring to as the L1 Cache version? Is it the ao486_Cache4.zip ?

Thanks!

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

Those benchmarks are an indicator, but performance varies n comparrison.

Wing Commander 2 runs on the Mister like a 486 DX50 at least I would say, which doesnt reflect in the synthetic benchmarks.

Impression may vary depending on scenario I assume.

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

I guess I wait for the official update. What surprises me is performance in Games like Wing Commander 1 + 2 it fells like my 486 DX50, WC1 running to fast for its own good, WC2 seems fine. Games like Warlord 1 and 2 feel a bit slow, same Masters of Magic. Doom I did expect much more FPS after I played Wing Commander 2. Looking forward for the offic...

It has been a while, but I used to handle EMS and the autoexec.bat/config.sys myself, will get into it again.

Since Disk Images work fine, I will try a MS Dos Install on an empty VHD, good suggestion!

Re: Breakthrough for the ao486 core announced - Cache

A Speed Dial would be actually "needed" for Games older then 1991 I assume. Wing Commander already runs to fast, my old Dos Classic "Smash the Smurfs" is unplayable. Performance doesnt seem to scale equally, while both Wing Commanders run good, DOOM is not anywhere near that, also Masters of Magic and Warlords 2 take their sweet...

That is a welcome boost.

To my surprise after I saw the a0486 Benchmarks, Wing Commander run a bit to fast, Wing Commander 2 runs just fine.

Can we have a turbo button to cut speed in half for some games?

I only found one mame folder in my \games on the SD Card, non on the USB Drive.
Added rom manually, same result I had before I tried the fresh install, screen freezes with colorful Letters and numbers.
