Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Firewalls, NAT and the FTP protocol are fun like that! I'm on IPv6 myself so I didn't even notice anything was broken, but things are back up on IPv4 as well now. Thanks for the notification.

Note to self: implement proper monitoring.

Re: OS/2 - Any known compatible versions?

OS/2 remains elusive on MiSTer but by ways of a service announcement: the famous Hobbes archive is about to sunset in a few months. There are a few initiatives to keep it alive, one of which is my tiny contribution. You can find what I could pull from it on ftp://ftp.area536.com/mirrors/hobbes for the foreseeable future. It's about 18GB's of misc. ...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Macs kinda suck though. Bash is limited to 3.x by default, which is not good enough. Check this out for a fix:

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

For the possibly wider community of Mac users: something I wasn't aware of, but macOS switched to ZSH a few major releases ago and that won't work. You must use Bash for the framework script. Bash can be installed through Homebrew (https://brew.sh). Once you have Homebrew up and running, it's a matter of running 'brew install bash', making the 'bui...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Did some catching up to @NML32's homework. A whole slew of additions made the list today. I haven't been able to test them all myself yet, but the ones I did pull through PCEM worked just fine. I still have some work to do on enabling CD-ROM games, but I'm getting there. Day job gets in the way, as it tends to do.. ;-) New additions: Altered Destin...

Re: Using a 10TB Hard Drive?

I'd advise agains ExFAT for such a HUGE volume but that's probably just my allergy for anything FAT-related talking from the days I did tech support on Windows 3.x/9x desktops. The slack space from bazillions of tiny files while the thing is formatted with 128KB clusters is just one thing. I'd personally go for something that has a bit more integri...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Hi Ronald, Good find on Lemmings! That's somethiing I could quickly fix online so a new build will be up in about 15 minutes from now (you'll see that the build is new when the post date of my DOSContainer releases page flips from the 6th of January to the 9th). The file for Another World is present on the FTP server so that shouldn't really be a p...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

What happens if you break out to DOS and twiddle the sysctl.exe itself manually? It's in C:\DRIVERS\AO486. If you hit a spot where it does work for you, I'll put it into my builds of Lemmings.

Not an expert by any definition here, but AROS is said to need a lot of RAM and it also published it's own ROM for the 68k version. Maybe it's of some use.. going from very foggy memory here so apologies if I'm talking nonsense.

Re: XT/Tandy Archives, HDD Images, Compilations, Top 300, Play It By Year, etc.

If there's enough interest, I'd happily adjust the VHD-files I'm making for AO486 so that they can run on PCXT as well. I never had a Tandy so I may need some help getting a test environment up for that.

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

I pushed a few buttons from my phone. You'll find a new Lemmings build up on my website right now. This one should drop the core down to 30Mhz. instead of the earlier 56MHz. Lemmings isn't exactly CPU-hungry so we could go all the way down if need be. I haven't been able to test this one myself but I hope it'll work better for you!

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

That should be fine. The sysctl program that runs inside the core's DOS environment flips the L1 to off and the CPU to 56Mhz. That does not reflect in the menu while it's running though. I guess my main question right now is whether the Lemmings VHD works without any twiddling on the MiSTer side of things. It does for me but I don't like to claim s...

The boot process sets up the core speed itself and everything else for me. No Interaction required other than picking standard pc at startup. What CPU speed do you get with the preset you use?

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Lemmings (the original) is back in my list of builds. The missing AdLib detection is due to the core's clock speed. Pushing it down to 56MHz. fixes the music for me on MiSTer. The latest build on my website does all of this automatically and it deals with the copy protection file. Get the pre-build VHD's from here and nowhere else: https://www.area...

Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

I took Lemmings off my list for now because of the fudging around with the RUSSELL.DAT file. I originally had a postprocessor function in the build script, but that meant running executable code on the host provided by the game config.. icky from a security standpoint. It's why I moved to YAML. I'll reintroduce Lemmings later with the copy protecti...

Just updated the framework to fix a compatibility issue between MS-DOS 5.00 and others. Should anyone have configs that use MS-DOS 5.00, rebuilding your disk images should fix mouse support now. Re: Individually Bootable VHDs for Each Game

Two things: Future Wars was rebuilt with MS-DOS 6.22, maybe that helps.. can't test it myself right now. The release page on my website gets auto-updated every time a merge to 'main' and successful build takes place. That takes A LOT of dumb grunt work off my hands and I learned a few basics of Python doing it. Oh, and the table of games is now muc...

Update to the releases page. Lots of new stuff, but some games are gone for now waiting for conversion to the new YAML format (which is almost final).
