Re: Rastan and/or Speed Rumbler (Rush n’ Crash) — Anyone working on them?
It looks like Rastan uses some pretty standard chips: MC68000 and Z80, and a YM2151. Don't know anything about the OKI MSM5205 ADPCM chip, but I suspect Rastan would be quite doable.

Seriously, though, I practiced using save states before making my legit runs. Great that this core is getting save states, because even if you're not using it for practice, it's nice to be able to leave off anywhere you need to.

Re: Audio thuds/pops between cores
I thought it was normal. I always get that audio pop running from the analog IO board out to a CRT. It's also something I hear on my NES that has been modded for expansion audio.

Re: Why I hate emulation.
In most games, the lag isn't even noticeable. Only in the worst case scenarios like Punch-Out!! can you really feel the few frames makes a massive difference. I have really been enjoying the MiSTer project. But there are still advantages to emulation as well, and I liberally use both. And PS1 emulation is definitely better on PC, although for most ...

Re: Save Backup RAM feedback
I noticed this myself in testing. I did the "Save RAM" manually, but it didn't show anything until I reopened the OSD, where it then displayed "Saving...", as I have it set to Autosave.

Re: Savegames randomly stop working.
Sounds a lot like what used to happen to me back in the day on my GBA flash cart. I used to run PogoShell, and it would randomly corrupt a bit when I ran on the DS. It didn't do it with an actual GBA, though. Very strange indeed. Hopefully this is something that gets sorted out soon; I'd hate to put in a ton of time only to lose my save through no ...

Re: Savegames randomly stop working.
It does sound like files are being randomly corrupted for whatever reason. It's likely not ignoring the save file so much as it's either empty or corrupt, and the game just doesn't know what to do with it. You could open it in a hex editor and see if it's empty, or if some of the information looks malformed compared to a real save.

Re: Saturn
I wonder if a hybrid approach is what we'll see here - offload some of the core functions to the ARM chip (like CD-ROM controller), and implement the rest in FPGA logic. I don't know how well the two sides synchronize, though, so that might be a challenge.

Haven't tested on MiSTer yet, but works great on the EDN8. Great job, paulbnl!

Re: Shinsenden fan translation opening freeze
Alright, I'll give it a go. Maybe it's my Japanese ROM that's the issue - I've done the patching myself and still run into problems.
EDIT: Nope, re-downloaded ROM, checked SHA-1 (matches the one you posted), patched via Lunar IPS. Doesn't work on either the EDN8 or MiSTer.

Okay, good deal. Wonder what Mesen does differently? I thought it was supposed to be very accurate, but I guess not quite THAT accurate.

Shinsenden fan translation opening freeze
So, I had a question about Shinsenden . I've tried it out on an EverDrive N8, and it always freezes at the intro sequence text box. I was curious as to what the MiSTer did, and it turns out it has the same behavior. So that has me wondering: is it the translation hack itself? Is it the mapper implementation on the EDN8 and MiSTer? I will note that ...
