No idea, sorry. But it couldn't be hard for somebody with the knowhow to whip something up.

Alternatively, some standoffs and two pieces of plastic would do the job.

Re: Some Scripts Stop Working For No Reason At All From Time To Time

I found the WiFi to be flaky on my Mister. I can connect to the WiFi access point and receive an IP address. If I'm not quick enough to do a network operation it simply blacks out and won't let me either run update scripts or connect to a CIFS. The wifi dongle itself appears to be fine if I use it on another device and was unable to replicate the ...

Re: SMB/CIFS Mount

Maybe I had it backwards—maybe the script is trying to use a version of SMB that's newer that what your NAS supports (although, I wouldn't expect that to be a problem with a Synology NAS). Searching for your error, I just keep seeing pages that suggest specifying the SMB version. See: https://www.programmersought.com/article/11001414771/ You could ...

You have to boot from an SD card.

Have you tried going back to the SD card that came with your DE10-nano?

Re: Why is my MiSTer so picky about sdcards?

Use Mr Fusion instead.

1) Download the Mr Fusion image
2) Download Rufus
3) Use Rufus to write mr-fusion-v2.4.img (extracted from the zip you downloaded) to your SD card
4) Put the SD card back in your DE10-nano and boot

Which program is giving you that error?

It's not listed on the Mr Fusion page, but I recommend Rufus for flashing the image to the SD card.

Re: Why is my MiSTer so picky about sdcards?

Using the SD card for everything is a bad idea anyway. You're better off keeping only the essential files on the SD card (those needed at boot time) and putting everything else on either a USB drive or a network share (preferably the latter).

Re: SMB/CIFS Mount

Another thought: I think it's trying to connect via SMBv1. Does your share have SMBv1 enabled? SMBv2 is often the minimum version enabled by default these days, and if your shared folder is on a modern Windows PC, that's definitely the case.

Re: SMB/CIFS Mount

You're supposed to add the settings to the INI file ( cifs_mount.ini ), not the script itself. I'm guessing the script is reading the blank settings in the INI file and that's why it's failing. These are the contents of my cifs_mount.ini : SERVER="QNAP-NAS" SHARE="MiSTer" USERNAME="MiSTer" PASSWORD="MiSTer" L...

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

I've tried messing around ntp.conf, but the only thing that works for me is using a local NTP server. I'll have to leave this to somebody who's better acquainted with Linux. For now, I've tweaked my ntp.sh script to have it update the time a bit faster at startup. Now, instead of waiting 10 seconds befor trying to update, it will try immediately an...

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

Ok. I think I have a better idea what's going on. As Bas has said, it seems to be just a timeout issue. At startup, the settings in /etc/ntp.conf are used: server 0.pool.ntp.org iburst server 1.pool.ntp.org iburst server 2.pool.ntp.org iburst server 3.pool.ntp.org iburst # Allow only time queries, at a limited rate, sending KoD when in excess. # Al...

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

Are you able to roll back just the Menu .rbf to the one in Mr. Fusion 2.2? That'll help to narrow it down to either the Menu core or the Linux installation. I can do that in a next troubleshoot step but I'm pretty sure it's the Linux installation and not the menu.rbf nor MiSTer.rbf. I'm currently testing an update using the included update.sh scri...

Re: Any Difference or Shortcoming Using a Keyboard Instead of the IO Board Buttons?

The entire I/O board seemed like it was always intended as a dev thing anyway. At least according to Sergio, analog out was only intended as a debug tool! So for that use its probably good to have some buttons before you get your core menu stable (although maybe that's not an issue anymore.) I've had my MiSTer for over two years, and I still don't...

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

I'm in the same boat as mightor. Till around December of last year, the time had always updated correctly at startup. But at some point that broke, and it would always fail. It was never an intermittent problem. It appears mightor and I are both using Ethernet too, so it can't be blamed on a dodgy Wi-Fi adaptor/connection. Whatever built-in mechani...

The Main core throws an icon up on the screen once the network connection goes live. Wouldn't it make sense for it to trigger ntpdate at the same time?

Re: Any Difference or Shortcoming Using a Keyboard Instead of the IO Board Buttons?

I don't understand why anybody does use the I/O board buttons. Why walk across the room when you have a controller in your hand or a keyboard in front of you?

The one button that would be useful for most users is a power switch, and none of the standard I/O boards provide one.

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

Mine was working fine for almost two years. I may have reinstalled with Mr Fusion prior to it breaking, but I can't be sure. I honestly don't know how long it was broken for before I noticed.

I might try some older Mr Fusion images over the weekend and see if I can narrow things down a bit.

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

It's not just the update scripts that need the correct time, though. The microcomputer cores and certain cartridge games will be screwed up if the system time is wrong. And savegame files will have the wrong timestamps. I find it odd that so few users seem to have run into this problem. Do most users have physical RTC modules, or is there something...

Re: NTP Not Updating Automatically

The ntp.sh script works well when executed manually through the interface menu of the MiSTer. But it does not execute automatically. To be sure that the boot process has enough time to enable the ethernet connexion, I increased the pause from 10 to 20 seconds. The ntp.sh script also has execute permissions. Please note that the name of the startup...

Can you please give us some more details about how you automated this ? By just copying the rtc.sh script in /etc/network/if-up.d/ ? How did you manage to delay for 10 seconds ? By changing the content in the script ? First, create a script in the Scripts folder. I named mine ntp.sh : #!/bin/bash NTP_SERVER="0.pool.ntp.org" i=0 while [ $...

Re: Advice for HDMI Users

Has anybody tried using one of these breakout boards ? Assuming the HDMI signal passes through correctly, it would be a lot easier to cut traces on one of these than trying to block/remove pins on an HDMI cable. I purchased a few of those HDMI breakout boards from AliExpress, and I can confirm they do work correctly. I'd recommend using one of tho...

Would it be possible to have a Raspberry Pi emulate just the CPU in software and have the MiSTer emulate everything else in hardware? I'm assuming there are I/O limitations preventing such a thing.

Re: Possible to simulate NTSC dot crawl via filters?

I've already posted this in another thread, but a new retro gaming scaler with and HDMI input has been announced. I haven't seen any mention of specific MiSTer support, but features include slot masks and smoothing filters for HDMI-modded consoles. It could potentially offer more than the DE10-nano alone can.

Re: Possible to simulate NTSC dot crawl via filters?

I wouldn't expect video filters to get much more sophisticated on the DE10-nano; it has no GPU.

Remember: the cores don't even support basic bezels/borders because they'd be too taxing.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

I believe MAME's implementation is considered to be pretty accurate (but it would be nice if somebody with real hardware could verify that), so it should be a safe comparison. The audio in MAME has a distinctly muffled and smooth sound, while MiSTer's is rather shrill and gravelly. Maybe a filter is all that's required, but maybe it's something mor...
