The latest I have read on this forum is some DOS extenders, at least dos/4gw, iirc, have issues running on ao486. My guess is a similar compatibility issue.

Re: Building a new MiSTer would like to know what's a good monitor and audio device

Sounds like we need some sort of video test. Perhaps 240p test suite and a high speed camera could be used to test 50hz at least? Not sure what might be out there that could run on ao486 to test 70hz.

Re: Possible to emulate 15 kHz display on 31 kHz (480p) by using scanlines?

Yes, but 15Khz CRTs weren't just about scanlines. It might look similar in a youtube video, but in reality image from most VGA monitors will look duller. Wishful thinking, but I would love to see a low lag external shader video processor. Megathread on libretro showing what shaders can do: https://forums.libretro.com/t/please-show-off-what-crt-sha...

Nice. E-ink is one of those areas I am "watching this space". Right now e-ink kind of reminds me of the first laptop with a color LCD I tried out in the 90s, though (a blurry mess ).

Some sort of either a delay or fade-in on core load would be nice. I think modern car stereos do this when you turn on a car, so you do not blast your eardrums out.

There are a fair number of games made with "CGA Composite" support that could make 15khz output useful (albeit with a composite conversion). Moby Games has a list: https://www.mobygames.com/attribute/sheet/attributeId,29/p,4/ I found the Moby Games link from this blog post: http://pcretrogames.blogspot.com/2010/10/cga-composite-video-mode...

You can list out what the USB devices are reporting as on the Mister itself. Here is a script I used that could do this: https://github.com/mcarans/resetusb/ My M30 controllers reported as "Pro Controller". It would also be useful if the DE-10 Nano user manual actually had anything at all on the topic of power. Re: 100% scanlines?

I tried the scanline sharp and soft filters but both seem pretty blurry compared to regular 75% scanlines. Do these force interpolation? Running integer scaling on both axis you want to use the regular scanlines. Let’s hope these smart people developing will enable a 100% scanline filter without interpolation. From what I understand, Scandoubler F...

Re: "Define joystick buttons" too sensitive for combos?

I have been running my mister with 500hz polling instead of 1000hz. I had been playing nes contra a lot before and after making that change. I do not have any hard science to back it up, but the controls felt a bit more "consistent" at 500hz polling. I made a modified copy of the fast polling script to allow selecting the polling rate. Re: MiSTer Custom Aspect Ratios for Horizontal Integer Scaling

Also, if negative borders would work, you could even do integer scaling with some cropping. The Space Invaders core seems to handle the borders incorrectly, looks like it handles them the wrong way around. You get severe glitching and I even had to cold reboot the MiSTer. I wanted to try negative borders (if it had been available) for cropping to ...

Re: Loud popping sound though analog audio port

To fix the pop as a core changes, the firmware would have to notify the core a second or so before the core change, and the core would have to ramp its audio output back up to maximum before the core change takes place. Just thinking out loud, a core "shutdown" function could be useful, perhaps for other things, too (autosave write-back?).

Re: Scanlines and highlight protection

The scaler filter was really only meant to implement scaling filters that are up to 4 taps like lanczos2 or bicubic interpolation. We're just lucky that you can make a scanline effect by darkening the phases corresponding to the center of the pixel. But there are a few ways to calculate scanlines. (1) Use a gaussian (bell curve) profile for the fi...
