Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?

In case you missed it, Donkey Kong is back and better than ever! The music is greatly improved with the fixes from schendel's previous unreleased work (he previously provided a separate RBF to test), and there is now an option in the menu core to switch between emulated and sampled analog sound for the walking sound. All of these fixes are now incl...

Re: MiSTer on PC CRT and BVM

If you use the HDMI out with the scaler (direct video 0) for the PC CRT, and the BVM on analog, then yes, depending on the resolution of the core.

Re: Atari 2600 and Paddle Controller

SNAC support would be awesome and I would jump for joy. The only drawback would be it would be limited to one set of paddles, but that is fine with me. I prefer the 7800 core with the D9 over the old 2600 core with SNAC because I think the image on the screen looks better on the 7800 core from what I recall. I have beat the SNAC horse to death thou...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

The benefit I see from it is moreso that you can avoid needing to have a whole PC + legacy video card with analog vga output in the mix. The latency is also an added benefit though. Yes, I totally agree. You just need a decent PC in the area with any video card you want in it that you can run USB and sound from. I already have one in my "retr...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

It would be pointless using a Pi to do this. A Pi can already do what this core is doing, natively, without having to go through a network. You can even use original resolutions, and refresh rates, at 15hz, connected to a CRT. So can a PC or miniPC. I think the idea is that the MiSTer solution is lower latency than a local video card with all its ...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I am not very familiar with Mednafen so I looked it up. I think nearly all the cores it emulates are already on the MiSTer. I am curious why we would ever use Mednafen with this when we already have the cores available. It's not meant to be negative, but just a genuine question. Is there something Mednafen gives us that the MiSTer cores don't? Rega...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

In my opinion, projects like this and almost anything else someone comes up with are absolutely welcome. In this particular case, it is a major accomplishment for passionate CRT owners. If you are not a CRT owner or only want MiSTer things to be completely self contained, this project isn't hurting you, just don't use it. Another example I would so...

I didn't tested my guncon2 on it but in theory will work as another input device. The reads from lightgun doesn't matter what crt they are on.

Thanks! I see that it is USB plus a sync signal, so that makes sense. I just ordered one from ebay.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Incredible. I am out of the loop on light gun options running from anything but the MiSTer. Is it possible to get traditional light guns such as the NES Zapper or the Playstation Namco Guncon working in arcade games and consoles even though there is a tiny delay involved? Maybe with run ahead or something? If so, how do you connect the light gun to...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

This does sound amazing. I finally got my Batocera running really well. Figures. LOL. I will definitely have to check this out. It could totally eliminate the need for the Batocera PC next to my arcade cabinet which could be amazing. Is it lag free over the LAN compared to a local PC? That is my main concern.

How about this one? https://www.grooves.land/bicy-box-adapter-cable-raidsonic-icy-box-ac502-hdmi-typ-vga-adapter-pZZa1-2097477034.html It had a perfect rating on the spreadsheet. Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

I didn't read everything very carefully, but my best guess is the HDMI to VGA adapter you are using won't work. The MiSTer is VERY picky with what it will work with when it comes to HDMI to VGA adapters. Use this one instead: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS611LJ/

Re: NES Core Adding Stereo Sound Like the RGB Mod

I suggest to add this to the core's github issues page. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/NES_MiSTer/issues This would probably be the quickest way to get it. Be sure to request adjustable stereo separation, and maybe a toggle option to change which voices go on the left and right since there are different possible combinations because there are more...

By the way, has anyone bought the new Atari CX30+ paddles? I'm interested in them since the plastic on my original paddles is brittle after those 40 years. Hopefully they are improved or at least the same as the originals. I am thinking about it, but I don't really need them since I have several options already (original with original pots, origin...

Re: SNAC for Commodore/Atari computers

That one doesn't say anything about Intellivision, Atari paddles, Keypads or 7800 joystick support. I don't know if it supports them or not. The D9 supports pretty much anything with a 9 pin connector. According to https://rpubs.com/misteraddons/inputlatency the D9 has 1.704ms latency. Not bad.

Re: SNAC for Commodore/Atari computers

So, it's confirmed that C64 and Amiga cores don't support SNAC? I don't know all the details, but at least the C64 supports SNAC for hooking up to a real floppy drive. I don't know if it works with joysticks. I don't know what SNAC support for other devices the Amiga core provides. I just use my 2600daptor D9 that works for many different devices ...

I wouldn't be surprised if Christmas rings in a release in the updater. You can have this now by editing the downloader.ini file and putting a line in there. Super simple and works great and gives you easy access to the new updates as they come out. As far as I am concerned, it is already release worthy so there is no reason to wait. Just know tha...

Re: Would a retrofighters wireless controller work with the N64 Snac adatper?

There is an older Brawler64 (which I have) and a newer Brawler64 NSO Edition (which I also have), and theoretically, the older one should work via SNAC. I have not tried it though. The newer one doesn't work with the actual N64, so it wouldn't work via SNAC.

Try Kaboom and push the button on the other paddle to see if he starts dropping the bombs. I often have the problem that the button function is on the wrong paddle. Also, you may have to map the paddle's fire button in the main menu joystick mapping, but I am not sure. I am not an expert on putting things back to the default configuration. I usuall...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

If it's working for me, then it can work for you and wouldn't need a core update, but rather, finding the secret sauce on your setup to get it working. It might be that the PDL adapter has a different VID/PID so the map file isn't being used. I would start by using the D9 and try to get that working first. Use Kaboom, make sure port 1 is Paddle, st...

Open an issue on github under one of the affected cores. Does the newer Megadrive core work correctly? If so, then it is probably per core where the fix needs to be implemented. Also, make sure you are not using the scaler. 480i works for me at least on the PSX core, at least it used to. It seems to be every core that outputs interlaced modes I’ve...
