Re: Can You Rename Console Core or Will That Cause Issues?

You can create a text file called "names.txt", put it in SD card's root directory and fill it with custom names for cores. On the next boot MiSTer will automatically grab names from this list and use them instead of default names. Cores should listed one per line, followed by a colon, space and custom name ( core: New name ). For example ...

Is there a practical reason why this core outputs 480p video instead of 240p like other cores based on similar video chips?

Re: Controls for Hyper Sports and Hyper Olympic?

Is it possible to implement so that the core automatically detects Hyper Shot controller requirement from rom's NES 2.0 header and maps NES A and B to Hyper Shot Run and Jump respectfully? This way there would be no need to add yet another niche controller option to OSD menu.

Speaking of Q*Bert, would it be possible to implement Faster, Harder, More Challenging Q*bert into the existing core? I assume it was intended to be a ROM update for existing Q*Bert cabinets.

Re: Question About the Turbo Tap Option

Yeah, TurboTap is the western name for PC Engine's multitap which is mandatory for any multiplayer, as the console has only one controller port. It has to be enabled separately for multiplayer games as single player games might have issues with TurboTap attached. Whoever wrote the documentation probably confused TurboTap with controllers' built-in ...

I have noticed that the release folder in the Sonson repository is spelled with a capital R (Releases) instead of a lower case letter (releases). Can this be a reason why the core's filed do not get picked up by the Distribution?

I use the single RAM version and sound straight up disappears randomly from time to time. No Red Book audio, no sound effects, nothing. Safe to say, the sound hardware is not finished yet to produce stable test results.

Re: Mapper Requests

For a bit of historical curiosity, I'd like to bring attention to Mapper 534. The reason is that supporting this mapper would technically bring support for yet another console to MiSTer: the original Atari Flashback console. Unlike all other Flashback consoles which either emulate Atari 2600 or, in the case of Atari Flashback 2, recreate its hardwa...

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores

Pengo set 1 has just been updated with a fix - please give it a go and if all is well I push it over to the alternatives. After one grueling play session I have managed to fill the high score table with my initials on all positions. Resetting the core kept them all in their places! Thanks for resolving this problem so quickly! Now, if you please, ...

I was going to recommend using Set 2 version of Pengo for testing instead of Set 1C as it has default high score values set to zero, but it seems that alternative versions don't save high scores at all.

Re: Preserving Arcade Core High Scores

I've been playing Pengo recently, trying to crack through the default high score barrier of 20,000 points. I noticed that after reloading the core it does indeed load your saved high scores, but only the top entry keeps your initials. Positions 2-5 display the default name values of KKK, III, RRR and AAA.
Is it working as designed?

Also, the Electronika IM-26 is a Russian bootleg hardware clone of the Game & Watch so those games could eventually be supported as well :) Electronica handhelds run on complete clones of Sharp CPUs and I believe they have identical roms to Game & Watch originals, so I assume they should already work with SM510 roms when supplied with Sovi...

I remember buying generic blue adapter years ago and it came with a mini-CD containing driver enabling rumble. Without that driver controllers worked fine but had, well, no rumble functionality. I guess the same thing is happening with MiSTer.

Re: Super Game Boy SNES core with MSU

Thanks for the core! While testing I found a small issue with one game. Tetris DX is supposed to have two different borders depending on the model of Super Game Boy. With the current core it doesn't load custom border at all, regardless if SGB1 or SGB2 rom is loaded.

Some arcade cores would really benefit from having a player input switch, e.g. Gauntlet where in the 4 player version each character class is tied to player number.

A bit confused about DualShock vs. Analog settings - in Gran Turismo, analog driving controls are only available in Analog mode (NOT DualShock!)...but vibration still works (if enabled). With the setting of DualShock, vibration works, but no analog control. Am I missing something obvious? My expectation was that DualShock would be analog+vibration...

Re: N64 Core Possibility? (Update! Robert Is Working On This Core!)

Another problem with a potential N64 core is that it would need to be able to render at 480p/576p to be even worth using for many users (myself included). If it would be possible to recreate the N64 on the DE10 the output resolution wouldn't be a problem. The MiSTer can output the picture in up to 1440p ( in 60 Hz). They are talking about internal...

Re: SG-1000 Support in Both Colecovision and Master System Cores Redundant?

I believe that Sega Mark III's backwards compatibility with SG-1000 software is not perfect on real hardware. Due to ColecoVision and SG-1000 being almost sibling systems with just slightly different specs, it would make sense for Coleco core eventually becoming closer to a real SG-1000 console than going through Master System's backwards compatibi...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

No offense, but wouldn't it be easier to rename those rom files back to .a26/.bin on your end? File extensions named after mappers had to be used on old Atari 2600 core because it lacked automatic mapper detection for several cartridge layouts and renaming roms was a way to manually set those mappers before loading. The current Atari 7800 core feat...

I believe that Quake II supports a hybrid gamepad+mouse control scheme with PlayStation mouse plugged in one of controller slots. It would probably feel weird at first but that provides better camera movement than the traditional digital pad control scheme.

Powerslave works well with this feature. The original Saturn game had locked 30fps framerate, while the PlayStation port had an uncapped framerate with constant noticeable dips. Enabling cache makes it run at decent 30+ fps, only dipping to 20 in intense situations.
