Re: Floppy drive sounds
I like the idea in general but it'd have to be really spot on/subtle. I had it enabled on Gotek once and that implementation was actually terrible, very distracting.

Re: Weird colours from VGA output
Nice one, this is very valuable info as well. Even though some of my colours aren't washed out, kinda opposite - they're too Eighties-rave :) It seems that this definitely is the issue with CSync either way, so at least I know what I'm dealing with. Now just need to find somebody locally to mod the cable for me...got two left hands when it comes to...

Re: Weird colours from VGA output
Thank you, I was actually just about to repost this on system11.org myself. That thread you linked to seems to be about the same issue I'm having, and it all makes sense, that some Trintrons don't get along with CSYNC very well. Seems I might need to try some other cables, or mod the ones I have now.

Weird colours from VGA output
So I've finally put my setup together. My MiSTer outputs to CRT TV sets via Direct Video - AG6200 chip dongle - MiST VGA to SCART RGB cable. Unfortunately the colours are slightly messed up. It's hard to describe, but there is an odd tint (greenish?) on some of them. Pure white is non existent. Some are just downright different - eg red seems orang...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
What I have seen in this thread (and others) is that when developers state that their priorities lie elsewhere (because there are so many things to do, and they need to be prioritized in terms of value versus effort), the thread doubles down to try to persuade them to do it. Now. Because somehow, they feel that if they ask often enough, it will ch...

Re: Section for Wishes
Here's another, much simpler solution: if you can ignore a subforum, surely you can ignore these "annoying" threads too? Furthermore, the kindly (ahem) named "core begging" has its function too. No, it's not at all obvious, because time and again I've encountered cases where asking about some feature/core/etc was met with: "...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
Asking again and again won't position it any higher on a developer's priority list. I agree, but we weren't "asking again and again". The initial request has evolved into discussion about reasons for and against it. I don't see anything wrong or annoying about that. But, indeed, I have stated my point on both counts and will refrain from...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
do it your self That's a great advice mate. Last time I coded something was a simple BASIC game back in the eighties, and I've struggled even with that. But no matter, I will just drop everything I'm doing now and spend a few years learning Verilog, or whatever other sorcery MiSTer project demands. It totally makes sense, right? This silly "w...

Re: Any chance for composite blend like in Genesis?
As was mentioned already, "looks very bad" / "crap" is a subjective thing. Other people seem to like it. Personally I use CRTs for 95% of my retro gaming, but when I display something on modern panel I need to use shaders or at least some sort of scanlines/filters, because the sharp, square modern pixels look really awful to me....

VGA to SCART cable
I would like to connect my MiSTer to a PAL CRT TV via SCART. I will be using Direct Video. I've found a DAC with the recommended AG6200 chip, now need the proper VGA --> SCART cable - Would the cable from MiST work as well? eg Lotharek's https://lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=171 - Wiki has a warning about DACs Please be aware that many VGA DACs ...

Re: a0486 Benchmark (180 DOS games)
You can play many DOS games (including the aforementioned adventures) on Amiga.
But having a robust 486 core would be of course awesome. The 286-486 years were the best period in gaming, IMO

Re: VGA Output VS Direct Video for Analog Video
I'm interested in the pros and cons myself, since I only display on CRTs. I'm just putting my system together and decided to skip the I/O since DV is cheaper. Is it on par with I/O, when it comes to 1:1 video output from all the platforms? Which ones are not supported atm?

MiSTer Cores on OSSC Pro?
I knew about the "OSSC 2" for quite some time now but totally missed that bit where they hint it very likely will be able to run MiSTer cores (it's Cyclone 5 based). I'm a CRT user so don't need the "old' OSSC, but they also say Pro will be able to downscale modern sources to 240p/480i for dispalying on CRTs. In conjunction with the ...

Re: Arcade Forge MiSTer RGB SCART PCB
The "officially supported" doesn't really mean that much, to me at least, when you are dealing with other trusted and experienced manufacturers. But it is true that this AF board seems ti be a key to the door which is already open. Its only advantage is that it's a bit cheaper than I/O (which also needs a special cable)...but then now the...

Re: Controller Latency
Common problem with all these lag tests, not only input ones, which is why I always take them with a pinch of salt.
Unless everyone uses uniformly the same hardware and methodology then the possibility of severe discrepancies will always be there, since it's truly a micro zone.

Re: Add on board for Analog CRT centering and protection?
Nice idea but I think just getting an Extron RGB interface would do the trick. They are not expensive and they show up time to time on eBay. Maybe not as expensive as other Extrons but still an extra expense. I'm also not a big fan of building big chains between source and display. Software implementation would be much handier (if it's not too dif...

Re: Arcade Forge MiSTer RGB SCART PCB
@Sigismond0 thanks for you explanation. I don't use LCDs and heard that colour depth is better via DV. Also the I/O board is an extra cost. But I'd like all the cores to be able to output analog...I guess I can always buy one later thou. It's a bit daft having a full size scart on there, a much better idea would be a mini din or psx av socket. Arou...

Re: Arcade Forge MiSTer RGB SCART PCB
Arcade Forge are a trusted seller (I have Pi2SCART and UMCA) but yes, I don't see any advantage in this over the I/O board. Plus, isn't it easier/better to just use Direct Video method anyway? (genuine question as I' will be connecting to a CRT very soon)

Re: ao486 wish-list
Indeed, the pcs of that error were quite crashy. One of the reasons was the real mode in dos and the many helper tools to gain some ram above 640Kbyte or open a small window to get the extra ram. No memory protection and adding some processor hacks on top of that to get enough ram to get a program going did not help stability at all. The PC was ba...

Re: Add on board for Analog CRT centering and protection?
My TV is Panasonic TX-21S1T, it’s a Z5 chassis. One page I found said to put the TV to channel 60, set sharpness to minimum and then press the Timer Off button on the remote at the same time as the Vol Down on the TV. I don’t have ch60, it stops at 50, when I follow the rest of those notes though it runs a test but doesn’t give any opportunity to ...

Re: Add on board for Analog CRT centering and protection?
I recently picked up a regular consumer CRT with RGB Scart input (living in a PAL land does have some advantages). I plan on using this with MiSTer and consoles such as Saturn, Dreamcast, N64 etc. Except RGB signals aren't centered on the screen. How badly are they misaligned? If it's just some slight differences (few centimeters her or there) the...
