Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

Another controller in my scenario is a DualShock 4 connected through Bluetooth. I usually play Atari with the original controllers (assigned to Player 1) but with the Dualshock (assigned to Player 2) to use for the console buttons (SELECT, START, etc.) and the OSD. I guess it can be assigned to Player 3 in the case of two-player games, but I never ...

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

You can skip buttons by pressing OSD on MiSTer or another controller. This way you can also map only the paddle button of any paddle. However, at least in my case, only the second paddle button will work even after mapped.

Re: Atari 7800 / 2600

I didn't have issues with D9 and the paddles range. I can get to both extremes of the screen. Regarding the button, I used another controller to enter in the button mapping setting, skipped everything except for the paddle button, which I mapped to the paddle button and it worked. However, this only works if the second paddle is assigned as 1A. If ...

Re: Atari 2600

Other cores are divided into what makes sense from the development point of view.
For instance: we have Master System, Game Gear, and SG-1000 (three different systems) under the same core.
On the other hand, we have different cores for Mega Drive and Sega CD, and Sega CD doesn't exist as a standalone system.

Re: Atari VCS Classic Stick Spinner Support

My VCS Classic Stick arrived today. I couldn't get the spinner to work at all, neither in the 2600 core nor in the Arkanoid core. Tried both modes. Tried wired and wireless. I can map all the buttons but I can't map the spinner. Should I need to? In the 2600 core, pressing the paddle button makes the base jump to the left side, but it is not contro...

According to the wikipedia entry on EDID - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_ ... ation_Data - there are some fields related to the aspect ratio. Could it be that MiSTer is not setting them?

Re: 1920x1200 & 1920x1440 Aspect Ratio Detection

I tried to copy all the parameters (vertical and horizontal front porch, sync width, back porch) from the OSSC output, but nothing works for MiSTer. It is always detected as 16:9. It must be something else.

1920x1200 & 1920x1440 Aspect Ratio Detection

When I set my mister to 1920x1200 or 1920x1440, my Magewell USB Capture HDMI incorrectly detects its aspect ratio as 16:9. I think it was an issue with the capture device, but when my OSSC is set to 1920x1200 it is correctly detected as 8:5 by the same device with the same default configuration. Am I doing something wrong? I could override the aspe...

Re: Atari VCS Classic Stick Spinner Support

That's good to know. The paddle support in the 2600 core is apparently broken. I can't use the real paddles with a 2600daptor because of that, though I can use them with Arkanoid and other arcade cores. I have a VCS Classic Stick ordered and "awaiting fulfillment" and hopefully I'll be able to play the paddle games with it.

Re: Daptor-2600 D9 with 2600 Paddles? [Solved]

I did some tests with the 2600daptor D9 and this is what I find out so far: We know that when a joystick is connected to the real Atari 2600, the D9 port has 5 pins for digital input (the 4 joystick directions + button). When a paddle is connected, two extra pins are used for analog input, one for each paddle wheel. The paddles use the same digital...

Re: Daptor-2600 D9 with 2600 Paddles? [Solved]

I bought two 2600daptors. There is no way to make them work with paddles in the Atari 2600 core. Mapping them is painful and the map won't work inside the core anyway.

Re: Atari 2600

Now what this core really needs is an optional frame buffer toggle for the few games that have weird output. Most games can handle the low latency V_Sync=2 setting no problem, but a few games are very problematic and it would be nice if one could turn on a buffer on the fly specifically for those games. Can you give examples? Condor Attack Deadly ...

Re: Avoid sellers on Aliexpress

I bought my SDRAM from AliExpress. No problems. It took a while to ship/arrive, but it was right at the start of the pandemic (January 2020) when everything in China shut down, so I really can't blame the seller. People who say you shouldn't buy from China or to buy in your own country usually live in countries where THERE ARE sellers to buy from. ...

This is a popular option in emulators and other FPGA consoles. I think it is worth considering its inclusion, many people would enjoy it.

Re: Atari 2600

@KremlingKuthroat19 I suggest you add this feature request to the Atari 2600 core GitHub. That's what I did with the pause button one. There it i's more likely to get more developers attention. I also think this is a needed feature and second your request. I'm also considering suggesting optional stereo sound for the earlier games and homebrews tha...

Re: Atari 2600

Sorry, my explanation about Tapper was incomplete. The problem isn't the interlaced screen (480i) per se. The problem is that the programmer apparently attempted to make it interlaced but left some incorrect timings. This is the explanation posted by alex_79 in Atari Age forums in 2013: BTW after looking more closely, the original NTSC version of T...

Re: Atari 2600

Tapper runs interlaced (480i), it is jumpy on the real hardware through 2600RGB + Framemeister or OSSC too. It wasn't jumpy on MiSTer through HDMI in the old core version, but now it is if you turn on VBlank Regeneration. If you turn it off, it is not jumpy, at least on HDMI. Have you tried this on the PVM? I have fixed ROMs that run in 240p if you...

Re: Atari 2600

Are there pause buttons in any core? You couldn't pause in real life, so... So we are in 2020 using FPGA devices and we don't have to be limited by the limitations of the real hardware anymore. CPS1 has pause, the real hardware doesn't. We can pause SMS on the controller, we can't with the real hardware. We can use save states in some cores, we ca...

Re: Daptor-2600 D9 with 2600 Paddles?

Now my new problem is that while ONE paddle works great in the Pong arcade core, the other paddle isn’t recognized (yes, I set one paddle to control on X and one on Y. I’m guessing it has something do with the fact that MiSTer sees both paddles as a single controller). I’ll have to try some more tweaking to see if I can get that to work. Please le...
