From what I am seeing, the lag difference is significant, so yes, there is a reason I believe.

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
I haven’t tried the latest core, but I can do those jumps easily on my real machine, but struggle to pull them off on MiSTer. Can you do those jumps on Mame as well? I have tried to do it many times with an invincibility cheat both on Mame and MiSTer but couldn't get it once. I didn't try that specifically, but I just got Groovy MiSTer Donkey Kong...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
I have been doing more testing. I was able to fix Donkey Kong so it syncs to my arcade cabinet CRT TV now. I created dkong.ini in the ini folder with this line in it that makes it fit edge to edge on my CRT screen so it is nice and big with no overscan and it should be the right refresh rate. It ends in 605 and it is supposed to end in 606 but it j...

Re: Getting ready to build my first MISTer - A few Qs
Welcome to the club! One option is if you have a keyboard hooked up, hit F12 for the menu. Generally speaking, assign the Menu to the PS or Xbox type button on your controller. From there you can load different cores under the Core option (use left and right to navigate menu screens if you don't see it, and sometimes you have to hit the Menu button...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
EDIT: Sorry, after checking this, Starwars video run at 41 Hz (vector), there's no way with can match this. GroovyMiSTer needs 1:1 frame match as it currently is. Thanks for checking. So it sounds like my only option for Star Wars audio is to run a long audio cable or put a bluetooth receiver in my arcade cabinet and stream the sound from the PC. ...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
In Batocera, there was a CRT script and sizing application you could run that would generate all the video modes so they would fit on your CRT screen better. I had to modify things some things in the script by searching and replacing one of the monitor options with a better NTSC option because it wasn't designed for any extended NTSC options in the...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
Create a blank ini file with the name of the rom (starwars.ini?). Edit it and add "monitor ntsc". Put it inside mame's ini folder. By doing this the game will run accelerated at 121%. To avoid this, try adding, in the same ini: monitor ntsc throttle 1 syncrefresh 0 I'm not sure if this will cause issues, since the mister core is actually...

To avoid this, try adding, in the same ini: monitor ntsc throttle 1 syncrefresh 0 I'm not sure if this will cause issues, since the mister core is actually meant to be syncrefreshed. Notice that this won't work if you've configured GroovyMAME to be launched from bat file with command line settin...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
Edit: Just deleted my huge post and want to focus on the main issue I am currently having... Star Wars the vector arcade game is trying to run at 640x480i @49.5 Hz. How do I get it to run 640x480i @ 60 Hz? I don't have a PAL capable TV. I had this same issue with Batocera and had to write a custom setup script to get it to configure properly for my...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
Thanks for the suggestion. I think id need 3 of them, one to connect my router to an outlet, one to connect my mister to an outlet and one to connect my pc.. it would be cool if the developers could create a build that you can just connect an ethernet cable from the misterfpga straight into a pcs ethernet port. I am not an expert on powerline ethe...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
I tested the SNES core and had no problems with it, it never lost sync. I was testing a number of older rbf files yesterday (as well as another HDMI cable, which made no difference) and even the first one of 2021 lost sync occasionally. It seems to be noticably worse in the 2023 and 2024 versions, at times every few seconds and then not at all for...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
Make sure you don't have another old donkeykong rbf file in _arcade/cores on your MiSTer. That is what I had (probably an early test version with updated audio). Yeah, I am not sure the right method but I used to change the date of the RBF to like 2040 of the one from schendel before so when the real updates came through, schendel's would still ge...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
The digital sound update is so much better than it was, especially for the digital/sampled music. I take it the samples from MAME were used or new samples captured. Great work. Great feedback. I am pretty sure that the music is NOT sampled. A number of fixes went into getting the digital non-sampled sound corrected. This was described earlier in t...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
Tried the previous version of the core, restored the mister core to the stable version, disconnected my analog output, nothing makes a difference. Really odd, the previous dk core is from quite some time ago, so I should have noticed this problem much earlier. MiSTer SAM is happily running everything else without problems. It sounds similar to my ...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
Haven't tried reverting to an earlier version yet. Only tried removing mra, rom and nvram, that didn't do anything. Haven't had problems with it before, it is a core that I use somewhat regularly. I have an iPad screen I can test with. I will try it when I get a chance. Here are the previous releases. https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Arcade-DonkeyK...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
This version sounds really good. Sadly it has sync problems on my iPad monitor now, even with vsync_adjust=2 it keeps losing sync, with a vertical frequency of 60.6Hz (60.7Hz with vsync 2 for some reason). Vsync_adjust=0 used to work fine. Strange. Can/did you try a different version also to confirm it is fine? Maybe something else caused it other...

Re: Donkey Kong: Walking Sound Hack?
In case you missed it, Donkey Kong is back and better than ever! The music is greatly improved with the fixes from schendel's previous unreleased work (he previously provided a separate RBF to test), and there is now an option in the menu core to switch between emulated and sampled analog sound for the walking sound. All of these fixes are now incl...

If you use the HDMI out with the scaler (direct video 0) for the PC CRT, and the BVM on analog, then yes, depending on the resolution of the core.

Re: Atari 2600 and Paddle Controller
SNAC support would be awesome and I would jump for joy. The only drawback would be it would be limited to one set of paddles, but that is fine with me. I prefer the 7800 core with the D9 over the old 2600 core with SNAC because I think the image on the screen looks better on the 7800 core from what I recall. I have beat the SNAC horse to death thou...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
The benefit I see from it is moreso that you can avoid needing to have a whole PC + legacy video card with analog vga output in the mix. The latency is also an added benefit though. Yes, I totally agree. You just need a decent PC in the area with any video card you want in it that you can run USB and sound from. I already have one in my "retr...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
It would be pointless using a Pi to do this. A Pi can already do what this core is doing, natively, without having to go through a network. You can even use original resolutions, and refresh rates, at 15hz, connected to a CRT. So can a PC or miniPC. I think the idea is that the MiSTer solution is lower latency than a local video card with all its ...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
I am not very familiar with Mednafen so I looked it up. I think nearly all the cores it emulates are already on the MiSTer. I am curious why we would ever use Mednafen with this when we already have the cores available. It's not meant to be negative, but just a genuine question. Is there something Mednafen gives us that the MiSTer cores don't? Rega...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
In my opinion, projects like this and almost anything else someone comes up with are absolutely welcome. In this particular case, it is a major accomplishment for passionate CRT owners. If you are not a CRT owner or only want MiSTer things to be completely self contained, this project isn't hurting you, just don't use it. Another example I would so...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core
Incredible. I am out of the loop on light gun options running from anything but the MiSTer. Is it possible to get traditional light guns such as the NES Zapper or the Playstation Namco Guncon working in arcade games and consoles even though there is a tiny delay involved? Maybe with run ahead or something? If so, how do you connect the light gun to...
