Re: [DOS/4GW] Help needed. We are almost there, the perfect DOS machine

keith.f.kelly wrote: Sat Feb 12, 2022 7:23 pm Thanks, I'll give that a shot!

How does one go about patching an EXE to embed a different DOS4GW.EXE or DOS32A.EXE? I have a large library of "No-CD" modified game EXEs that will need the same process applied.
Does DOS32A MYGAME.EXE not work on MiSTer ?

If I could summarize what I think I understand: DOS4G/W is included in a lot of games, and it has bugs that cause the games to crash. (It wasn't totally broken, many people played these games fine back in the day) They have a list of bugs here: https://web.archive.org/web/20190123202228/http://www.tenberry.com/dos4g/watcom/rn4gw.html I think DOS4G...

Re: A Real PC XT Core Perhaps?

Pretty sure that was his point, that archive org itself is just a general source, but what is shared there, might be a verified source. Like the ReDump stuff that is on there, archive is often what people are told to use to get those. But archive org overall is not trying to do any verification and such, that is up to the individual uploaders. It ...

Yes I am actually running MS-DOS 6.22, so thank you very much EDIT: I opened a thread on vogons.org because their knowledge is just astounding when it comes to these things: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=86991 The default of 256 MB for an hdd is a lot of free space for much of the DOS era, but not so much that it can cause poorly-...

Re: AO486 Compatibility List

The ExoDOS collection uses IRQ7 as default which is the only reason I switched to using it as default. You can pull my configs from archive.org if you want a boot disk configured for CD support and maximum memory free. I think the version I have out there with misterfs, ctmouse, doskey, cdrom drivers, and assign loaded is around 626K free of conve...

I'm not, although it could be interpreted that way ;) , DEBUG.EXE is found in PATH, in my case C:\DOS.
So it breaks when writing a file to /shared because it thinks the disk has 0 bytes free.

Interesting I managed to find a workaround with the invalid parameter error by using the line from Flynn's top 300 pack ( https://github.com/flynnsbit/Top300_updates/blob/main/utils/configs/CONFIG16.EMM ) and this works but throws another perplexing error. MISTERFS.EXE *BUG*

It seems MISTERFS.EXE is not reporting free space to DOS. So programs that check for disk space will fail. I ran into that problem yesterday trying to debug something with MS-DOS debug. IIRC DOSBox "always reports 512MB 256MB free" unless its actually less to mitigate this. So this could be solved by returning a free space value that isn'...

Re: DJGPP compiled programs hang in DOS 6.22 on AO486 core

There is a lot of shit wrong with this core, otherwise everything would be working :D A lot of TSR's and anti-debug routines wont work properly either from my experience. My guess at this point is that it has something with the IVT (Interrupt Vector Table). From my limited knowledge regarding DOS-extenders they would use or redirect INT's and add t...

Not by the installer or the core, I think its the misterfs.exe that creates that folder

Nice that you have the ambition to contribute, however using that "rm -rf" is ill advised.

Please don't use this.

If you fried one of the components, why not measure components one by one. You should, if your theory is correct, find one that shorts. (smell the board, that would give you an indicator too where to start) You could also watch some Adrian's Digital Basement, he restores a lot of stuff. And since he describes exactly what he's doing and why, this s...

I don't either. It's a fun experiment, but performance would ruin it for me. I would like to know @held's other reasons. Dosbox is essentially a free thing that comes as an arch package. So there was nothing in it for anyone here to enable such use cases (despite it being not that useful on first glance). I also hear that there's some performance ...

I got multiple game pads to connect to the MiSTer via the same Generic Bluetooth Dongle. The only BT device that don't do multiple devices is the 8Bitdo receiver, and it acts as if it was a wired controller as far as the MiSTer is concerned. I only assume BT Audio don't work as it's lacking in the back end/Linux Side or it's the limitations of the...
