Re: Replacement of ao486?

The first point is like arguing that gravity didn't exist until someone proved it. Even an attempt will prove nothing if it fails. Did it fail because the hardware couldn't do it or the programmer couldn't? (However, we do know very real facts about gate operating speeds, work units, etc. associated with the DE10-Nano that pretty conclusively demo...

Re: Replacement of ao486?

Respectfully and entirely disagree. I believe that a fast, compatible x86 plus Voodoo compatible graphics card is possible. We don't need a Pentium. We need a compatible CPU that can be designed from scratch with the latest CPU technology and optimized for the MiSTer hardware. PC's are the most flexible computers and there are an infinite number o...

It might be worth reading the myriad of other threads on the subject that make abundantly clear that neither the awesome complexity of the Pentium nor any sort of 3D-accelerated Pentium-era graphics card is remotely feasible on the DE10 FPGA.

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

The "play commercials for the same system you're going to demo" feature seems to ignore excluded cores - for example, I have all portable systems disabled, yet it played a GameBoy commercial and then spent a LOT of time just sitting there as it couldn't load the core. Not sure if it's possible to parse the enabled cores list and exclude c...

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

Possible very old bug - I have the 'screen saver' (flying toasters, specifically) function in tty2oled enabled. tty2oled starts before MiSTer_SAM in my user-startup. With MiSTer_SAM having run, once I exit it and start using a specific core for a while, the screen saver function of the OLED display never kicks in. If I cold boot with MiSTer_SAM com...

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

One other very small nit, that I suspect is just "how it is"...when the media player is actually playing the video, there's a flashing black block near the upper-left of the screen that always seems to be present (at least on HDMI). I assume this is 'normal' and can't be avoided due to the fact that we don't really have a dedicated screen...

The YouTube list is not really trimmed down yet. It's just a random list with commercials i found. I definitely plan to curate it more, but would also appreciate a PR with suggestions. My main focus is on archive. I have found some high quality versions of old video game commercials and I'm uploading them in 2 resolutions for CRT and modern displa...

Last unreported issue I'm aware of - if you set it to "only" (vs. "core" or "alternate"), the very first video will not play.

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

A suggestion - some of the videos (particularly Youtube) can go on for a LONG LONG LONG time (as they aren't actually ads in some cases).

It might be worth considering limiting playback to the TIMEOUT number of seconds (the same as games are shown for, perhaps?), which I think the player being used can accomplish.

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

Another anomaly...in MiSTer_SAM.ini, there's a default line that reads thusly: samvideo_path="/media/fat/video" However, /media/fat/video does not exist (and is never created). Instead, it appears to be using the (script-created) path /media/fat/Scripts/.MiSTer_SAM/video. This doesn't seem to cause any ill effects, but wanted to report it...

Re: MiSTer Super Attract Mode (SAM) is now available - the first game screensaver for your MiSTer!

Thank you - confirmed!

One other interesting quirk...if you have ttyoled showing the game timer (i.e. "Next game in XXX" countdown), it still shows (though wrongly, of course) with video playing...if it's possible to suppress that line only when doing video playback, it would be a bit cleaner.

LOVING this!!!

Re: Right Amiga on Pi (or other) keyboard without Menu key?

Took a little jiggling, but finally wrapped my head around it. For anyone looking to do this in the future (very specifically, globally map the right Windows key (not menu, as it turns out!) to right Control on the Raspberry Pi keyboard (ONLY!), just unzip the attached file in /media/fat/config and reboot. It will be global on all cores, but left C...

Right Amiga on Pi (or other) keyboard without Menu key?

Does the core support an alternate key sequence for Right Amiga for unfortunate keyboards lacking a Menu key? (WinUAE, for instance, offers using Right Ctrl as an alternative to Right Amiga).

I tried every key combo I can think of on the Amiga Test Kit keyboard test without success.

Not sure if it's been brought up yet, but in addition to the handful of virii on the main MegaAGS release (not counting the ones that are part of the WHDLoad collection)...ironically (since HNY96 requires 2.0+), several of the files on the bonus 1.3 hard drive image are also infected (and cannot be cleaned without damaging them).

Paddles don't work with daemonbyte adapters. I recommend getting a Daptor PDL, it works with DB9 joysticks and Atari or Commodore paddles: http://www.2600-daptor.com/2600-daptor%20PDL.htm

Is there a guide to follow on configuring MiSTer (main and core) for this? I have the adapter, but can't seem to get it going.

@FPGAzumSpass - one thing I meant to ask about. In my experience, if you race without turbo but turn it on for the replay, the replay will still fail - if you turn on turbo before you race, the replay is fine. Wouldn't that imply that the real issue is with recording the inputs with sufficient fidelity vs. playing them back? Not sure that would hav...

Agree - I confirmed on this game in particular that medium Turbo is sufficient with no observable impact to gameplay as a whole, which is a reasonable compromise.

Thanks for weighing in!

Gran Turismo replays often desync

When playing GT1, about half the time or so the post-replay desyncs increasingly badly to the point your car never gets past the first lap and drives crazily. It looks like the way replays work is that they just replay the control inputs and physics takes your car where it's supposed to be after, but I certainly don't recall the original game havin...
