Re: Spectrum Next Games?

First it was very promising as latest firmware was on it - but the games that are delivered with that new batch do not work flawlessly on the MiSTer core as it obviously checks it’s a real Spectrum Next and the MiSTer core doesn’t pass that test and the games doesn’t work. What? The creators of the Next have encouraged folks to spin off and port t...

Re: Sega Saturn Core in Development

I let Daytona USA run through the demo loop twice and didn't hear any audio abnormalities.

It is indeed louder by intention (see "fix output levels"):

Do you happen to know where those per core settings are stored on the SD card? It would be nice to be able to fix them in a text editor vs. having to go into each core while it's running and make the updates.

They are in /media/fat/config, but are binary and subject to change with core updates.

So far it was only supporting cue format. I just updated SAM to support chd, but don't have any roms to test. Please let me know if it works. I might also have to recompile wizzo's samindex tool to get it working.

Works! Thank you!

What exactly is SAM looking for with respect to Saturn games? Mine says none were detected, despite mine being separated in directories (just like PSX, to properly support multi-disc games) and are all in CHD format.

What's the difference? Aren't they both MiSTer input methods? Why did they need to differentiate?

Daemonbite has nothing to do with MiSTer, it will work with any system allowing USB input.

I'd be very surprised if it's a core issue - sounds like that would be entirely governed by the game code itself.

I was working up a list of NTSC-only titles for years, so I may work backward and derive things from there.

That being said...what is the current intention for PAL titles? Will/should they be run at 50Hz? What about scaling?

@limi Is there any way of doing so without necessarily being familiar with the games? I'm afraid I grew up in NTSC-land and wouldn't necessarily know whether music is correct at PAL timings. (For example, the way I remember the Powermonger opening theme is WAY different than my European brethren!)

Re: AmigaVision (MegaAGS) 2023.12.25 Released with Updated Game Configurations

thats a good point. Recently checked Bill's Tomato Game and music was way to fast. Now i know the reason. I think that approach is not true to the original. Why was it done this way? I'm speculating a bit, but I suspect it was to achieve maximum display compatibility with monitors that can't sync to PAL. Whatever the case, I agree with the masses ...

@Cyberdonks I don't know about the NSO controller, but I can tell you that after very heavy testing, I find the 8BitDo hall effect stick to be vastly inferior to the Retro-Bit one. The former has a completely square range of motion, where the latter is circular (and thus also able to be properly constrained by the gate mechanism, coming much closer...

Re: AmigaVision (MegaAGS) 2023.12.25 Released with Updated Game Configurations

When running this collection on my Mister any game labeled NTSC or PAL60 runs music way too fast. What am I doing wrong? Either remembering wrong or never having played the game correctly in the first place, in all likelihood. =) NTSC games were 20% faster than PAL in many cases (depending on the timing mechanism used). If you were playing intende...

I've been interacting with the individual who cracked the very first commercial copy-protected title, Microsoft Adventure, for some time now. After all this time, and having VERY thoroughly reverse-engineering the game, this very same individual h...

Not sure that's universally true, but in this case in particular I suspect they may have 'borrowed' Remember's release.

The connection is likely the issue, as I had this as well. Opening it up and repositioning the prong did it for me, but if you want absolute assurance you can always just solder it.

I guess the real question is how underserved those communities are.

TI-99/4A, for example, has LONG had a very active home at AtariAge, of all places. I don't know where Analogue customers tend to congregate currently.

I strongly suspect you have two controllers both reporting as Xbox controllers but with different actual button layouts.

The only solution there is to switch at least one of them to D-input if possible.
