pbsk8 wrote: Tue Feb 09, 2021 9:10 pm I dont think it's pointless having three buttons. Since to change a core, it is necessary to cold reboot to avoid glitches.
I've never had an issue with changing cores via the menu. Which cores glitch?

Wouldn't switching the MiSTer on and off again achieve the same thing?

Re: User Button on IO Board

I've not found a use for it other than soft reset.

To be frank, I think 3 buttons is a bit pointless, the main MiSTer reset button doesn't get much use from me except when I accidently press it thinking it's soft reset.

Could be wrong about both of those though. I've not tried it on every single core.

It's definitely your TV. These older trinitrons suffer with this quite a lot.

Re: New MiSTer Composite adapter - mAVster_MD2

Will you be doing another run?? I'm pissed I missed this. Yes, I've added a new pre-order to the webstore. Will this work with Direct Video turned on using one of those DAC HDMI/VGA converters? No it won't as I believe those don't provide power on pin 9 of the VGA connector. I think I may add an additional power source to this board, that way any ...

I think if the TMSS BIOS was an option this would be the most accurate megadrive reproduction around!

Actually, it seems another time they are displayed (probably what I'm thinking of) is when the pallet changes in VBL:

Re: CRAM color palette dots option

The dots are caused by writing to CRAM while the VDP is reading from it. Most likely a real console uses a single data bus for reading and writing so it will read the value being written instead of the value in CRAM. The core uses dual port ram so it can read and write simultaneously. It is a minor change to add CRAM dots: https://github.com/MiSTe...

Awesome!

I think the only thing really left to add would be the debug register (really I think only for Titan 2, though I think the boarder thing sort of works anyway?) and the TMSS BIOS loading.

Checked the latest version - yes, messed up.
Well, wait until they officially fix it.
I can compile, of course, if necessary.
Or just fix it and submit a pull request?

You will need the JAMMA edge for controls as I believe the other controller input is JVS? Been about 10 years since I had one so my memory is fuzzy.

Could always look at MisterAddon's new JAMMA adapter coming early next year.

Re: MiSTer in 31khz tri-sync monitors

Go for 15khz. The NNC monitor is auto switching so will switch to whatever resolution the currently attached system outputs.

You would only likely need to adjust the h/v size but that's going to happen regardless what's plugged in.

Re: SNES NDK10 controller

You will likely get the first 12 buttons (normal SNES buttons) but none of the others will work.

These pads need the host to allow 16 extra clock cycles to read in the other buttons. It's probably not too difficult to do.

If you have the means to test I'd be happy to have a go at adding support.

Wow, I think you've had a pretty serious run of bad luck because you're the only one that's mentioned this out of 30 odd people!

If you could share your bad cables (if there's anything that you can identify them by) it may help others to avoid them going forward.

Re: Real floppy drive

There's more to it than that. I've looked at the AO486 core and it's not obvious which if any signals are being used. I'm not sure that core uses a floppy controller as such, even though it does handle images (I assume). Not saying it can't be done, I'd like to see it, but only the hardware would be relevant and some of the menu code. The rest woul...

Re: Real floppy drive

The thing is, this is interfacing directly with the Amiga floppy controller so it's certainly not a trivial thing to implement in another core, each will be a special case and in the case of AO486 I'm not sure these signals are even exposed.

I'm interested actually how the core doesn't do this currently.

From my understanding they are the result of DMA access from the 68k which lots of games use. Are they masked at the moment?

Re: Comparing mAVster_MD2 with Antonio Villena's composite adapter

I should add, with the subcarrier generated using the fpga, the megadrive core exhibits the same blue/yellow "banding" that my real megadrive 2 does with this chip, probably due to the PAL frequency. Not all that relevant but interesting I thought.

Re: Comparing mAVster_MD2 with Antonio Villena's composite adapter

My design incorporates a Y trap. It is actually very similar to a real megadrive with just a few differences to compensate for the difference in MiSTers RGB output and the additional crystals. Comb filters are usually (always) built into the receiver or TV, not the encoder. Trust me when I say the only way to beat this is to use a sub carrier gener...

Re: Comparing mAVster_MD2 with Antonio Villena's composite adapter

I'm outputting to pin14 / vsync when composite sync is enabled. Currently this pin is held high when csync = true, but I'm planning an ini option to change this behaviour (sub carrier freq on/off). The freq could then be selectable in a video sub menu to allow PAL 60hz (not 100% sure that NTSC 50hz would work?). It would require a hardware revision...
