Re: TI-994a How-To

Not sure, looking into it. Disk Utilities worked fine for me but Disk Manager doesn't so testing it now.

Re: TI-994a How-To

Timing. The floppy drive (not the controller) is passed the clock frequency used by the core (in this case it was 42.666.....) so it can do some calculations. Unfortunately, during compile time, the clock was adjusted slightly from what was specified. Normally it's not an issue if you the floppy drive was actually running off that clock, but it was...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Ok. I have been using Old Caves, Cutthroats and Deadline as my test cases for the floppy issues. I got them working 100% of the time on my rig.
I had to tweak clock speeds so VGA/CRT video may be off especially for PAL (it's reporting as 50.2HZ) so if anybody is testing/playing on a pal CRT/TV, let me know how it goes.

Re: TI-994a How-To

I believe I figured out the issue. I'm running through a bunch of tests, once I have 100% repeated success, I'll post it.

Re: TI-994a How-To

@Flandango - if it helps, Deadline's even worse (and therefore perhaps better for troubleshooting) - it breaks on game start with the same disk read error, no verification process required. If it boots without errors (all the way through game start after disk 2), you've fixed whatever's wrong. =) Thanks, I'll look into this one too. So far it's be...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Unfortunately I don't have a CRT to test on but if you can post the pictures maybe I can figure something out. As for TiCalc...Try this version attached below... I can't get Old Dark Caves 2 to work right but I can sure as heck get TiCalc to work. If using Mame roms, use phm3213_g3.bin as the Grom rom (G.bin) and combine phm3213_r1.bin and phm3213_...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Did we ever get to the bottom of why (mostly Atarisoft "MAME paged16k"-style cartridges) fail as part of a pyTIrom image but work when loaded separately? I've been looking at this with debuggers on various systems (MAME, Classic99, and to a limited degree ti99sim) and I just can't figure out for the life of me what's wrong. *Some* paged1...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Ok figured out what happened with the previous release and the broken disk system. I had updated to the latest framework and since there were some major changes to how sd card access works, it broke the disk system...mostly for the 2nd disk. Anyway, I found a version that works with the current disk system as it is and also allows the changes for t...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Ok this is weird. Everything works on my end. As for the Cart Type, the menu option was ignored from when I brought over the changes from the Mist core and only just recently removed it from the OSD to clean up a bit. I just started reviewing the original Mist code and I don't see the logic of disabling it especially when MBX banking was implemente...

Re: TI-994a How-To

- Display Master (Inscebots, 1986) from XB is not working: I/O error 26 also for this title. Please note that TI-Artist from Inscebots boot fine; - Old Dark Caves 2 has the same I/O error 26 for me, also following your instructions: speech, mount disk first, etc. If you can get me a copy or point me in the right direction for Display Master so I c...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Here is another test version of the core. It should now format/initialize Single and Double sided Single Density floppies. The USER LED will light up when the virtual drive motor is spinning. First attempt at NTSC/PAL switching. I still have issues with the Old Dark Caves 2 game. I can get it to load most of the time if I have Speech enabled (5200)...

Re: TI-994a How-To

Thanks for the info Tmop. Yes I couldn't get any of the disk tools to initialize a floppy. Have you managed to get an emulator to initialize a floppy so I can compare cpu <=> floppy controller communications? As for Old Dark Cave disk, it could be the turbo loader and a timing issue with the drive/cpu. I have initialized 2 disks with MAME, one for...

Re: TI-994a How-To

I only had a problem with Old Dark Caves 2 (1986, Donn Granros) with an IO Error 26 (2 is SEEK OR STEP and 6 is NO DISK/DRIVE or DRIVE NOT READY), but I need to chek with MAME if is a problem of the copy used. Are you using RXB to load it up? If so I found that using Extended Basic works. It seems that the character set is modified and when the ga...

Re: TI-994a How-To

I brought over the WD1772 that is used on the Mist core but had to modify it to work with the DSR floppy image format that I was able to find.
It should support single and double sided images (single density), 40 tracks per side with 9 sectors per track.

Re: TI-994a How-To

Here is the rbf file. You will need to include the Disk DSR in your system rom.
I used Disk.Bin with MD5 Checksum: 3169cfe66687d5b9ed45a69da5a12817.

Re: TI-994a How-To

Sorry to butt in unannounced, but I came across a comment or two about the Ti994/a core not having the drive support that the Mist core does. So I figured what better way to learn some fpga development and get familiarized (somewhat) with Quartus then to try to add the floppy feature to the Ti994/a core. Now I never owned the system, nor do I have ...
