7zip has the best compression / is freely available decompresser. It is way better than rar files and dealing with winRar.

Re: VGA Artifacts?
I recommend fixed vblank with vertical crop off, which means the core will always produce 240/480 lines, which should work good for 480p as it doesn't need any further scaling. Also you can try to set the vscalemode of the scaler to integer only. okay so I had the 480i to 480p hack enabled and that seemed to disable any of the vblanks sync so I di...

VGA Artifacts?
So I got a new VGA CRT monitor did the VGA scaling and set my video settings to 480p with vga scaling. Now what is different from my component consumer TV is that the video takes a slight amount of time to sync with the bios boot screen logos but other than that it is amazingly crisp and looks amazing, it puts my HDTV to shame and my Component TV a...

Silent Bomber, fun to pick up and play awesome with fast paced action. Graphics are pretty good as well almost can seem like a PS2 launch title when zoomed out.

Re: Samba on Mac OSX
Another option is to use something like FileZilla https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?platform=osx Then connect via sftp Yeah don't need that if you are on KDE / Linux my Steam deck can ftp into the MiSTer from my default file manager Dolphin. I guess I take for granted how it is to be on a platform that just has it all built in by default.

Re: Wishlist of Cores You Would Like to See in the Future
Tamogatchi is good but this is far out there what if someone made a Furby core, obviously we won't have a physical thing but you can use a controller input for any physical button on it, the ADC for microphone input a picture of the current furby state can be displayed like mouth open, eyes open ect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi2m4efMxig What...

Re: CGC Round 15 core: Nintendo Entertainment System / Famicom
I nominate Silver Surfer for the NES it has great music varied levels and level select and is difficult yet keeps you wanting to try just one more time. It also isn't the most popular game so many may try this for the first time, it also is a game with simple pickup and play controls so not too difficult to get started.

Speaking of trackballs, I wonder if a cheap option might be a Kensington Orbit TrackBall ? Would Mister see this as a mouse ? They are currently around £25 on Amazon, far cheaper than some of the arcade trackballs on eBay. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kensington-Orbit-Trackball-ergonomic-ambidextrous/dp/B000HEW0KW/ref=sr_1_3?c=ts&keywords=Trackbal...

If you can get NTSC TVs get ones with Component video inputs it works just as good as scart(if not better as it has a standardised sync) you can use a RetroTink RGB2Comp for the conversion if you want to hook up any scart devices

Re: Add _Handheld Category Folder?
You can do this with .mgl files today. It will allow you to have e.g. a Game Gear core that uses the SMS core, but with separate settings and game directories. Check out the docs! :) To be fair there wasn't any documentation and no one was talking about what MGL files did last time I tried to find out. Good to see the docs are in order. I guess I ...

Thanks feel kinda silly for forgetting; great work on this amazing core, I only had a NES and PSX growing up so this core means a lot to me, you went above and beyond what I expected so am definitely a patron, and encourage others to do the same.

Re: Advanced cores for MiSTer future FPGA hardware
preservation wise we have ODEs, and softmods, N64 and DS is basically done waiting a more powerful FPGA that is reasonably priced. Problem is that things won't settle for a couple years and that doesn't even factor in potential economic collapse and supply line collapses so best enjoy the PSX and Saturn cores we have as the world collapses around u...

Re: Best Controllers to Use?
Is there a good 2.4ghz playstation or xbox style controller for MiSTer? I currently use 8bitdo M30 controllers and love them. Logitech made some good 2.4ghz controllers late in the PS2 life. I would just say use a modern Playstation or XBox controller if you must the PS3 duel shock controller is the same exact form factor, will pair with a simple ...

Re: The secondary SD Card
SNAC is easier if you have diverse controller schemes that need to be swapped having a second snac with analog capabilities could help, the TRS tape loading jack could remain as there is well over enough analog input pins. As for Controllers I know how they are, I made my own daemonbite adapters and they work well. The problem is if you move betwee...

Re: The secondary SD Card
What I was getting at is a future IO board could have the ADC built into this second snac adapter for use with analog controllers(duel shock, atari paddle controller, saturn 3D pad, atari 5200) The existing Snac already does this to a huge degree. Consoles that have existing Snac support now can use their Analog controllers. PSX Snac functions are...

Re: The secondary SD Card
I would rather see this worked into a second SNAC port. being close by the analog IO it would be great for analog snac devices. I really don't see that happening, a Snac controller port dedicated to older analog devices would require another ADC. Other than a Tape drive (and the MiSTer has that as it's own dedicated add-on) what other devices are ...

Re: Anyone know what these new Adaptive Scanlines are?
Yeah, with adaptive scanlines and shadowmasks, the only major thing I see missing is alternating scanline fields for 480i content. I've officially boxed up my PVM at this point and just play on my plasma set. What cores would use 480i wasn't that really not a big thing until the PS2 yes the PS1 uses it for some menus but pretty much all the gamepl...

Re: Anyone know what these new Adaptive Scanlines are?
Scanlines that get thicker/thinner based on how bright the pixels around it are. Will look more authentic. But we need the cores to be updated--you can get betas in the Discord I believe. See how there's basically no scanline at all between white pixels, medium scanlines on the lighter colored ground, and thicker scanlines on the left side/shadow ...

Has anyone heard about adaptive scanlines? What are they and what would you use them for? There are like no mentions of this feature online just really on the recent changelog.
