Re: MiSTer updates and changelog

Arcade: Joust 2, Inferno, Mystic Marathon, Turkey Shoot: - Updated framework Arcade: Tropical Angel : - Updated jt5205 adpcm module to latest - Simplify rgb logic (reverts my amateur LUT change from last time) to resolve a marginal timing issue observed, should see no visible differences. Slug Cross: - Updated framework - Fixed what appeared to be...

Re: MiSTer updates and changelog

Arcade - Tropical Angel: - Fixed color palette to more closely represent arcade monitor output (thanks to David Haywood for the picture). - Added color lookup table for more accurate RGB333 to RGB888 scaling in place of the simpler concatenated scaling. - Updated framework (pll optimizations from FPGAzumspass which saved logic and helped meet timi...

The two don't compare or compete, though. I'm not sure if I can amend the official docs in any way. Agreed, I like that you didn't overlap in the overall approach. If you ever find something that you think should be in the docs but aren't there feel free to submit a pull request, raise an issue, or shoot me a message anytime. I'm very open and gra...

Re: Is this frequency showing correct on crt?

That's correct. Totally normal. In this menu the first is the native resolution and the second is the scaled resolution. The Menu core (what you see upon boot) is a bit special and different, but 59.8hz is normal for analog video. Cores of different systems will have different native refresh rates that vary widely so you will see this number change...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

It would be pointless using a Pi to do this. A Pi can already do what this core is doing, natively, without having to go through a network. You can even use original resolutions, and refresh rates, at 15hz, connected to a CRT. So can a PC or miniPC. I think the idea is that the MiSTer solution is lower latency than a local video card with all its ...

Re: Mega Drive Core / Psycho Pinball Issue

If you reset the game after selecting language, that god awful sound won’t appear anymore. Are you testing with the Mega Drive core or the Genesis core? The Mega Drive core resolved this issue last I tested. It was the same problem that Total Football had with the Genesis core, it was very likely a bus arbiter timing problem. This game needs to be...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I am not very familiar with Mednafen so I looked it up. I think nearly all the cores it emulates are already on the MiSTer. I am curious why we would ever use Mednafen with this when we already have the cores available. It's not meant to be negative, but just a genuine question. Is there something Mednafen gives us that the MiSTer cores don't? Reg...

Lots of things could be done in theory.

Whether or not it should be done is still relevant because at the end of the day someone with development skills with free choice to do what they please would be the one to implement it.

Re: Control MiSTer Menu with SNAC?

BlisSter won't allow lightguns to work afaik, whereas SNAC will, so suggesting it as a replacement of SNAC is not always going to be appropriate. Also, BlisSter does not have any meaningful advantage over many modern usb controller adapters such as the following: https://www.tindie.com/products/timville/triple-controller-misteranalogue-pocket-adapt...

Re: Arcade button setup as part of main menu

In general whenever I start a new arcade core I just map my buttons there in that core once and then I don't have to think about it. It's pretty quick when you get used to it. Part of the issue is that each core is made by different devs so the button mapping won't be 100% consistent between them, as the button indexes and how it's mapped sometimes...

It gets a measurable but completely imperceptible marginal accuracy boost to sound timing.

It's not possible and it likely won't be added as an option. You should just get a longer cable and put your left speaker in the left position and your right speaker in the right position.

Both SCART and Saturn-type cables have been known to get the Left and Right audio signals swapped, so also good to confirm with the user regarding their cable type.

The rated operating temperature of the cyclone v soc on the de10-nano is -40°C ~ 100°C, it's the automotive rated chip. It should be fine.

Re: When/Why Did MiSTer Start Running DE10 So Hot?

Well there's a few things going on there... Hot to the touch is a function of the thermal conductivity of the material and how fast it can transfer heat to your fingers. Aluminum is a very good thermal conductor. So a minor change in temperature may be more apparent. There has been more added to the framework and more added to the Main MiSTer binar...

I never said anything about the core needing a fix. MSLUG2 clearly has a performance issue that people are trying to solve. So a 3rd party core, unstable or not is a good option to have. I was reading up on it because I heard X was quite similar to 2. There was talk about hacking X to be like 2 here but I wonder if anything came of it or that it w...

Re: Neo Geo CPU Overclocking?

What needs to be fixed about it? The core meets timing requirements when I compile trbocode's latest version. I don't think doubling the clock is anywhere near the equivalent of what Koston's mods to his own boards are though. The current build is like clocking the board to 24MHz which is a bit excessive given 12MHz is the default. The crashes you ...

You need specific drivers for Windows 95 for joystick support typically (going off of memory here). Right click My Computer --> Properties --> Device Manager. If you are using the latest unstable release of the Saturn core, did you make sure to also use the latest unstable build of the Main mister binary?

There were changes to both today to make CHD loading also work. You have to have both updated if you are using the bleeding edge unstable release of the Saturn core.

I'm a big fan of the Dualsense as an all-rounder. I have gone through testing and trying out dozens of controllers and it's the most solidly built, very low latency over bluetooth, and just feels the best in my hand. The only time I think I need anything else is just for N64 for which I use the RetroFighters Brawler64.

Yeah that is not expected. dvi_mode being enabled only makes it so audio is not transmitted over HDMI, that's it. It really shouldn't impact hdmi video when turned off at all.

If students learn how to use these technologies from these companies, the companies stand to gain more influence among young engineers, and it helps round out their sales. The branding thrown on the box and materials that come with the DE10-Nano aren't that unusual for dev boards, especially educationally-targeted ones. To be honest, the word "...

I see no particular change to DE10-Nano nor Altera's direction for at least 2 years. I do. There's zero benefit to Intel to continue the FPGA education program that made the DE-10 Nano possible in the first place. I suspect the very last of them to ever be made has already been manufactured and is in inventory. This, obviously, could have a profou...
