Re: Mapping Keyboard to Gamepad?

It's a step forward, but it's not really solving what my original Github request was about - saveable per-game configs. As it is, it can help with some more generic buttons, or if you are only playing one game for a longer period of time with a specific remap. But ideally, it'd be great to be able to configure and save keymaps for different games -...

Re: XT/Tandy Archives, HDD Images, Compilations, Top 300, Play It By Year, etc.

I downloaded the pack for the first time yesterday, it's awesome! Thank you very much for compiling this. I noticed one thing with the vhd though, is it normal that it does not include the years 1988 - 1989? When I noticed they were not listed in Norton Commander I exited out and checked the directory of C:/, sure enough they are not listed. Is th...

Re: XT/Tandy Archives, HDD Images, Compilations, Top 300, Play It By Year, etc.

I've updated the 1981-1989 MS-DOS "XT era" collection to v1.0 (search archive.org for "play it by year msdos"). This is mainly to bring the Tandy/PCjr directories in line with the much-revised Tandy/PCjr standalone pack. The other big addition is an archive with individual games with LFN filenames, so you can use them in DOSbox ...

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

It’s not that complicated (although of course people would run NTSC games like Defender of the Crown incorrectly in PAL at the time since their A500s didn’t have an obvious software-based way to switch into NTSC mode) — US game publishers like EA and Cinemaware are quite obviously made for and in NTSC resolutions and CPU speeds, then there are the...

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

Indeed — except for #2 in your examples, that’s a game from a US game publisher (Electronic Arts), and should be run in NTSC. It will then fill the screen :) Sure, but if you were an Amiga kid in the PAL zone back then, that's what you'd most likely see regardless of a game's origins :) The whole PAL vs NTSC thing is a bit of a rabbit hole anyway....

Re: Amiga VGA Output Should it Fill The Screen?

So yes it all seems to be normal except that in the MiSTer I have this offset upwards. This is actually how it is in PAL on real hardware. And MiSTer displays 1:1 Amiga image over analogue. Most micros had borders but the image was more or less centered, Amiga is an a exception. Examples: 1 2 3 Flight Of The Amazon Queen (Amiga 500)(RGB)(PAL)(Sony...

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

My biggest gripe is when people develop and sell products and not tell people the product is not meeting reference standards or show test results as I think every product should be properly tested and run at reference levels, that's just a given and no excuses there. I don't know which products you are referring to, but I'm pretty sure the ones fr...

Re: The State of DACs for the MiSTer and Direct Video

It's a nice write up, thanks a lot. I think the "No one should use the AG6200 based DACs however unless you just can’t use anything else and the world depends on you getting a video signal of some kind." is a bit of an overdramatization though. I've been using one for over a year when I first got a MiSTer (with high quality TV sets), just...

Try to update your mister.ini, in case you still have old one without "vga_mode=": https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/blob/master/MiSTer.ini That VGA2SCART adapter isn't necessary for Direct Video, only to be able use modelines with DV, so you should get display on most cores anyway. Hi mate, glad that these games are being kept alive on the OG hardware ;) Still, it sounds like you're using the first, outdated version - the 500GB image (called ISO IMAGE on the archive page)? Because the new one is a 2GB vhd and doesn't have LFN. It covers years 81-89, with short filenames and Norton Commander as "frontend". I'm not su...

Thanks for the update, I just pulled it down but realized there's no .vhd like there has been previously. Was it forgotten? Odd, the .vhd is definitely there - can be downloaded both individually and in the torrent. Re: Why Are So Many Cores Missing Horizontal & Vertical Position Settings for CRTs?

I've done a lot of comparisons of MiSTer's analogue output vs real hardware on CRTs and in most cases it's 1:1. Meaning that if you get your set adjusted once for general 240p, it should display MiSTer's content fine out of the box, without the need for additional tweaking. Amiga with its horizontal shift is an outlier, but this problem is the same...

V1.0 is up now on archive. org (search for "amiga"+"akeley" or "play it by year"). I've just tried more than 10 random .z80s from the latest Lady Eklipse's TOSEC set and they all work fine. The core will even detect whether the snapshot was from 48 or 128K machine and adjust the hardware settings accordingly, so I doubt it's the issue. So, not sure why it's not working for you.
