For images under 2GB I don't think any adjustments are needed - I tested mine on both and they seem to work ok.

I mainly use Retroarch via crtemudriver because it allows me to pause games and take photos. But yeah, you can also use other cores not well represented on MiSTer, or use savestates, etc. It just opens up a wealth of awesome options.

Anyone has right to an opinion and that's fine, but the bottom line is : if you don't like it, don't use it.

Please, let's not derail this awesome-news topic with splitting hair over what MiSTer is or isn't for.

To be fair, you don't need this core to use a Pi with a CRT, you can use a Pi hat, such as the Pi2SCART. Then you get to use whatever MAME, or emulator you want, and the resolution, and refresh rate should be the same as the original hardware.

I used to do that but the advantage of PC is huge. Less lag, much more games, etc.

One more question: do we still have to deal with modeline creation on the PC side (using VMM, ArcadeOSD, etc) ? Quietly hoping NOT, because this bit could be a bit of a 'mare when trying to set things up and then also running Windows in low res....

Wow, this sounds quite wild and exciting, seeing as I love Groovymame, MiSTer & CRTs .... but I must admit my senile brain has a hard time trying to process it all. I connect what to what here exactly? PC running groovy to MiSTer to CRT TV?

The chip is the CS5210 which is considered good by the guide, except in one occasion: when it's inside a Vention adapter, and guess what? My adapter is Vention branded.

The star rating in this guide refers to image quality. The adapter itself should still work regardless of that.

Megadrive has "pause when OSD is open", SNES doesn't. Any RPG or strategy game would do, but better use this "industry standard" tool for calibration: https://artemiourbina.itch.io/240p-test-suite

This was via analog, but for the old times sake I've just tried it via Direct Video (with that aforementioned adapter) and it also works - this time on consumer Trinitron set. The numbers are the same.
