Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

The benefit I see from it is moreso that you can avoid needing to have a whole PC + legacy video card with analog vga output in the mix. The latency is also an added benefit though. This is correct, plus you also have to add some converter such as UMSA into the chain ( 40E), but more importantly setting 15kHz on Windows is not for the faint of hea...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

It would be pointless using a Pi to do this. A Pi can already do what this core is doing, natively, without having to go through a network. You can even use original resolutions, and refresh rates, at 15hz, connected to a CRT. This really isn't so simple, which is why I mentioned it earlier. I spent a couple of years wrestling with Pi2SCART on RPi...

For images under 2GB I don't think any adjustments are needed - I tested mine on both and they seem to work ok.

Yes, but if your sole contributions to the forum are complaining about something not working (you see this with github users too), don't be surprised if you get short shrift. I don't see anything wrong with somebody making an account only because they care about one particular issue. It's not "complaining" but bug reporting, and this one...

Re: XT/Tandy Archives, HDD Images, Compilations, Top 300, Play It By Year, etc.

I apologize in advance as I may not be fully understanding this person's definition of "better" or "unique," but is there a reason the Quest for Glory games don't qualify for this list? I played QfG2 on a Tandy 1000 tl/2 with what I believe was Tandy sound. I'm not sure to be honest. I think the idea of "unique" featu...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I mainly use Retroarch via crtemudriver because it allows me to pause games and take photos. But yeah, you can also use other cores not well represented on MiSTer, or use savestates, etc. It just opens up a wealth of awesome options.

Anyone has right to an opinion and that's fine, but the bottom line is : if you don't like it, don't use it.

Please, let's not derail this awesome-news topic with splitting hair over what MiSTer is or isn't for.

To be fair, you don't need this core to use a Pi with a CRT, you can use a Pi hat, such as the Pi2SCART. Then you get to use whatever MAME, or emulator you want, and the resolution, and refresh rate should be the same as the original hardware.

I used to do that but the advantage of PC is huge. Less lag, much more games, etc.

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Of course not. Modelines are calculated by the emulator on the client and sent to the MiSTer, as game demands, but there's no extra configuration needed on the client side. This might even work on a Mac probably. You have full control though on video timings through the usual Switchres settings, in case you like to tinker. That makes it all more a...

Re: MiSTer Feature Expansion Idea

It's not a bad idea, but as usual the problem is finding somebody to execute it. This is what has just occured with the out-of-the-blue Groovymame core - a very niche thing, for which there already is a solution. and yet some enthusiasts made it happen. In this case it could be useful because MiSTer owners also often collect old micros. And some of...

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

I woke up and still have trouble believing this is real ;)

Re: Groovy_MiSTer Core

Ok...so groovymame runs on PC, transfers data over LAN to MiSTer, new core processes it all, and MiSTer then outputs it to CRT, connected just like before with native cores? Tha sounds quite revolutionary and if there are more emus adapted - well, Retroarch really - it would let me get rid of my specialized Groovy PC box with olden ATI card and run...

The chip is the CS5210 which is considered good by the guide, except in one occasion: when it's inside a Vention adapter, and guess what? My adapter is Vention branded.

The star rating in this guide refers to image quality. The adapter itself should still work regardless of that.

Megadrive has "pause when OSD is open", SNES doesn't. Any RPG or strategy game would do, but better use this "industry standard" tool for calibration: https://artemiourbina.itch.io/240p-test-suite

Re: Direct Video No Picture on CRT VGA Monitor

I thought the scandoubler option took care of that. It sure does, they're just plain wrong (at least in regard to CRT monitors). Plus, you don't even need the scandoubler, like I said previously (but might need some modelines). Overall, I can run every core on a VGA monitor (one of which is old, uncommon, and very fussy), including 15kHz PAL micro...

According to the Direct Video MiSTer FAQ/guide I only need to change two parameters in my "mister.ini", is it really all that it's needed? That should be enough. Your config looks like the old version though, best use the most recent one in such troubleshooting cases: https://github.com/MiSTer-devel/Main_MiSTer/blob/master/MiSTer.ini Try...

Re: Alice not syncing (only 30Hz)

Sorry, for me making modelines is still black magic - I only copied it from someone. Maybe somebody else can chime in, and you can also try to read this guide for more advanced insights. Ata a glance though 490 is a near-multiple of 2x240 (a bit like old DOS games), and 4x320=1280, so 1276 (it's ok to do super-resolution in horizontal). The result ...

it's just bugging me when these errors happen and I don't know why. Yep, I get the same itch. Re: Alice not syncing (only 30Hz)

It's a 15kHz modeline and works ok for me: IMG-20231224-160243.jpg One problem is maybe you're using Direct Video? In that case I don't think modelines will work unless you have an additional adapter (like UMSA ). Also, some TVs are more or less sensitive, though, amusingly enough in my experience it's actually PVMs being more fussy. You can also t...

I got a new update_all.sh, ran it, and it brought in the Minimig core. Now the Amiga core entry launches Minimig, and the Amiga 500 core asks for a Workbench disk, so that's progress... For hdf images like MegaAGS/AV you should use Amiga 1200 config and mount the hdf files plus Kickstart file. The MegaAGS readme describes which settings to change ...

Re: Tandy Sound on Space Quest and Odd CGA Colors

Thing is, if I run the pcxt core the txt is not garbled. In the mister menu I can see it outputing 15kh but in ao486 I’ll see a higher kh number. These are two different cores/machines. PC/XT outputs 15kHz CGA signal and ao486 dodgy 31kHz VGA. That's why you need modelines for ao486 to be able to display it on 15kHz at all. And the DOS vs in-game ...

Tried all the modes on the ao486 core but it refuses to output a 15kh signal. One of the modes looks pretty great in games but dos txt is always slightly chopped off and can be hard to read. If as you say "it looks great in games" then that's 15 kHz modelines working as intended. The trade off is the slightly garbled text in DOS, but the...
