Re: 100mhz on the ao486 Core Now Stable? Maybe?
Just out of curiosity: can you compile a core with a higher clock than 100Mhz using this approach? Obviously it would be even more prone to instability, but why is 100Mhz and not 110Mhz the ceiling? Just a nice round number?

Re: Hybrid AO486 core?
Just saw this thread for the first time, and due to current time constraints, I haven't read every post yet. I have an electrical engineering degree specializing in computer engineering back in the mid 90's and from what I have learned long ago, here are my random and somewhat repetitive thoughts (my terminology might be a bit off since I don't do...

Re: About the temperatures of this new PSX core
Temperature is not a hazard at all on MiSTer cores, but you can probably convert your FPGA to boil eggs for you, if you need to: https://groups.uni-paderborn.de/pc2/pub ... config.pdf

Re: Hybrid AO486 core?
We need better x86 CPU in FPGA and not some flaky hybrid CPU solutions Connecting Pi to Mi? Why not connect monitor and input devices to Pi directly and enjoy superior performance right away? It would take a masochist and genius of epic scale (hello Sorg and FPGAzumSpaß!) or an open release from Intel to implement a cycle-accurate x86 from even th...

According to this result page https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lvF9nOAMKLeCpHR_SaA48M7sUXItwIi72gHRcw0wpNU/edit#gid=0 Ao486's results of 43.8 in 3dbench2 and 3565 real-ticks in Doom put its performance on par with 486DX2 66MHz On top of that Doom runs pretty much the same as in this video https://youtu.be/cKwnuwDcfcI?t=486 and not like on 4...

Nope. The de10-nanos deserve to be put to better use than sit on my shelf.
For me, there’s no harm in having to wait for a new board if mine fails beyond repair due to freak accident.

Re: PlayStation Core Full Savestate Support
Not really related but I'm not sure if my question deserves a topic on its own... So if I understand correctly, ps1 core won't use 100% of DE10-Nano capacity, does it also mean that there is no risk of overheating? Because that's my most fear about "3d" cores, I don't know if it could cause overheating because of the charge needed to run...

If the stability of the compiled 100MHz core is down thst chance at compilation time, won’t you have to get compile, test, recompile, test ad nauseum every time the core is updated?

You should revaluate how you communicate on here, because if there's any good point in here it's overshadowed by your awful attitude. I agree, my thought is Origin = MasterOfGizmo = Till Harbaum (creator of Mist) MiST and Till are awesome. This thread perfectly illustrates how MiSTer users probably make up 90% of unqualified idiots among de10-nano...

Your telling me there were games released back then which ran at like 9 frames per second, so long as they met the minimum system requirement that was acceptable? Yes, that is how it was. Was it acceptable? Not really, but that's just how it was. I guess things have changed for the better in that regard. But you also have to put it in to context o...

Re: Destruction Derby 2
The original Xbox came out in 2001. The Pentium was released in 1993. The Mister is a 486 without a FPU and no 3d Acceleration. The core is the limits of what the DE10 can do. Any 3d games are laregly beyond its capability. Understood, I'll just find another way to play it. Just wait for Robert/FPGAzumSpaß to work his magic and the PS1 core to rel...

Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu
I like this idea. Don’t see what it would detract. I could think of a budget solution to this though: Would write-protecting your SD card prevent guests from bugging your set-up? I never tried it, maybe it won’t work as read-only? From there your guests would be safe to mess about the OSD menu at least. It should be possible to instruct people how ...

Can any of the current MiSTer modules be reused, or does everything have to be custom-made for this kit apart from the DE-10 Nano and the fan?

Re: Professor wants GUS in FPGA
Wavetables on GUS were uploaded to the card if I recall correctly, not ROM's. I seem to remember plugging in additional DRAM chips in mine to reach 1MB of sound RAM. The default patches could be replaced by converting a SoundFont with a more liberal license. You’re right, it looks like only the AMD InterWave successor cards stored samples in ROM (...

Re: Professor wants GUS in FPGA
Yes, the legal obstacles are probably equal to the technical ones. The wavetables in the chip ROM seem to be copyrighted, and still held by someone today, similar to the AMIGA kickstarts and Cloanto. Not that it’s stopping anyone from downloading them from the net. Some guy already reversed the PCB schematics of the board and recreated a GUS PnP us...

Professor wants GUS in FPGA
I stumbled across this potential master thesis project proposed by a professor at a University in Hungary. I don’t know if it is at all feasible in the fpga/SoC of the DE-10 Nano, but I thought people here might like it, since GUS support on the ao486 gets requested from time to time: https://www-mit-bme-hu.translate.goog/eng/node/9797?_x_tr_sl=hu&...

Re: Lemmings with two mice
I guess that the first obstacle is getting the MiSTer's Linux to handle both mice independently, so that Main can pass that segregated data to the core. If there's a way to do that, it's probably through raw access to the USB input or something like that. In my MiSTer, for example, one mouse is /dev/hidraw2 and the other is /dev/hidraw5; I'm sure ...

Re: Lemmings with two mice
At the moment, no, as the MiSTer framework merges all USB mouse inputs to one. Maybe it’ll change some day, but Sorgelig does not consider it an issue/priority, since so few games support it. At least not when I made an issue on github some months ago. Hopefully that will change if people keep requesting/bringing it up (it does come up every once i...
