Re: MiSTer PCXT
I wanted to report back that I finally worked through the serdrive disk "Bad Command Checksum" that I have been plagued with from the start of this project. I have been using 86Box/PCem/Windows to create the raw disk images (IMG/VHD). Once created to the size I wanted I would pull over to either AO486 or 86box, fdisk, and format the disk ...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
I insist, it seems strange to me that it is a problem of the UART speed, but is it possible that you are using the experimental 7Mhz version? That might make more sense. In any case, if it's the UART speed, it's not necessary to change the core, in the script set it to 115.2K and it will work anyway, but at the previous speed. I solved it. It was ...

Re: PC 386 and 286 Core Setup Ideas
I won't know until this weekend when I try it out myself what the current situation is on ao486 as far as 386 era games, are they not working? That's what I'm wondering too. From various answer in this (and the other thread), I get the impression that one issue is being able to know what settings to use to match some specific 286 and 386 speeds. I...

I use DOS 6.22 Does the double dragon work well? Tetris also wonders if the graphics are coming out normally. I use 6.22 and double dragon works well, I was told dos 6.22 does not use more ram that older version, it even uses less ram than others like version 5 for example. https://ctrl-alt-rees.com/2021-01-06-which-dos-version-uses-the-least-memo...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
I have multiplied the speed of uart_clk by 4, now it is possible to change the script to work up to 460.8Kbps :-) Attached binary. Pretty big difference. Note if you were using my bios file I posted before it is hard coded to 115.2 so you need to go back to the one in the repo. I'll redo it tonight. It's 4x as fast for sure. Noticeable difference....

Couple of testing sessions I tried to use MyMenu from the Shareware Pack as a test... but it really didn't like the core's DOS environment. Are there settings I could tweak or would it require changes to MyMenu code? (I imagine that I'd have to give up long filenames, for example) mymenu.png It's LFN=T being set and DOSLFN or LFNDOS not running. I...

XT IDE configured to boot directly from the COM1 address and skip auto detection of the other controllers. It speeds up the boot process a tiny bit for now. Of course this will need to be re-done when HDD/FDD is added. You can regenerate your base bios with this using the python script if you want it built in. I changed the color scheme so you woul...

Archive.org "tanfiles". You're welcome. :D === Games: Most of the games are preconfigured for enhanced Tandy/PCjr graphics and audio. Furthermore, most of these games should run fine on any Tandy 1000, although some may be sluggish on a 4.77MHz processor. Games that *required* unreasonably fast Tandys to run at all, like a 12MHz 80286, ha...

It could simply be the instability of the COM hosting of the drive image that is causing it. I...

Juko is fast for sure. I have a somewhat solid setup with DOS 5, 4DOS as the command shell loading into emm, FREESP, UMB+LTEMM, MyMenu and I just transferred about 100 games to it. Hi all, having trouble getting this to even start. I've got the files from archive.org, unzipped and copied them to /media/fat/games/AO486. I ran the update script, which reported successful update to 0.7.8. I start the core, mount the BOOT-DOS98 vhd to IDE 0-0, and the Top 300 DOS vhd to IDE 0-1. I set boot priority to HARD DRIVE, and then select...

I am building up a FreeDOS version of the hdd.img and adding MyMenu and some shareware games to it so people have something easy to share and test with. FreeDOS's command and system are much heavier on base memory so I am working to integrate 4DOS. 4DOS is struggling with memory addressing in the core but works fine in PCem with the Juko ST bios. Re: PSX via VGA to PC CRT 31 Khz Monitor not Working
Scandoubler isn't supported in the core. You have to use the vga scaler if you want 31 KHZ. I did a rough mapping of the resolutions for video switching, but it's probably better to just run at 960p unless you pick a game that doesn't switch modes a lot during game play. I should also go back and changes these to the more simple video_mode lines in...

The TDL image on oldskool's FTP seems to be working okay. I did have to add FREESPT to my image I am testing to speed up the initial disk calculation when you run a DIR on a larger disk. I am sure running it from COM is where a lot of the slowdowns are. This is cool. FreeSPT for those that want to use it: https://github.com/ChartreuseK/FREESP under...

Make sure you have used the Top 300 update script on github to update the pack with all the changes over the years and you will be fully up to day. There are some pre-release updates that are bleeding edge out there,...

Just use the MikeS modded cores for now as someone suggested. They really do look pretty great these days, if you keep your expectations where they should be if you are not doing S-video/Component/RGB/VGA/HDMI... Re: Another Guy With Trinitron CRT Issues
for your converter you could try setting the video modes within the core to Original, FullScreen, etc to see if it is filling the screen. My guess is that converter is receiving a 16:9 image and your TV is squishing it to fit in 4:3 so the menu is 16:9 by default (filling the TV screen) and the game is 4:3 --> 16:9 converter leaving you black bars ...
