Re: AO486 14092022 update instability
I have a weird issue since this update- I boot AO486, I get into the menu to select RAM options and for some reason it immediately starts the last game played without any opportunity to choose another. I haven't been able to work around it either, not by deleting configs, nothing. Sorry I can't help more kold666 you didn't exit that last game prop...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
Did you try the symlink method? If you go to the Linux prompt on the MiSTer after connecting a USB floppy drive, you should be able to make a symlink to the floppy drive and if you then name that symlink something like floppydrive.img and place it in the PCXT or AO486 folder you should be able to mount that file in either of the cores and access w...

Re: Real Floppy and AO486
It is possible but it doesn't work right. mounts fine, reads the floppy disk but when you read from it something weird happens like it runs out of a buffer somewhere and just stalls when copying. Caldors steps are correct but it has been more than a year since I did it. Create an empty USB_FLOPPY.img file, symlink the read drive into it, then moun...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
TDL Extraction and auto creation of a PC Booter disk is working great now. For those games that require a floppy boot, you need to create yourself an empty floppy on the mister first: cd/media/fat/games/PCXT serdrive -n 1.44MB floppy.img then go mount that floppy in the core and reboot. Both A and B will be the same floppy so either should work. Th...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
If there is a problem with the timing of adding the offset and base address, would it work well if I change the BIU code as follows? It works! PKUNZIP and TDL already work perfectly :) I will make it public in the next release. Can you make me a pull request on the prerelease branch with this change, please? This way your contribution is registere...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
A CRC check failure does not mean a bug in CRC calculation or comparison; it's probably a bad decompression. Most decompression algorithms supported by PKZIP involve a lot of code, it's not a small and simple loop. I might try some debugging. I need the exact version of PKUNZIP used, the original zip file that causes problems, and the BAD decompre...

Thanks for the reply. driving me nuts to be honest. This is my second attempt at getting this to work again (it used to be fine when i had all the pack on my SD card) Im not sure what a symlink is. this is the path: G:\games\AO486 my external drive is listed as G:\ the pack is in here, Top 300 cd folders etc etc Did you leave another ao486 folder ...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
Dropped a bug here with PKUNZIP. Can someone else test and see if they are also getting CRC errors? you can just use PKUNZIP -T file.zip to test the archive. Works fine on AO486 and bombs for lots of zips on PCXT.

using the very latest misterfs from the repo right? I've never had issues with it not running or needing a bunch of memory. Maybe it is getting corrupt when you transfer it into the vhd?

Re: Why Doesn’t the Lion King Run Well on the AO486 Core?
All the graphics issues feel like they were resolved by all the code changes that Alex did. The scrolling bug, univbe, etc all feel solved. I can see the speed issue depending on the setting and it not being quite right. I haven't tried a combination of slowmo + the core settings which might get you closer. Lion King in particular seems to have a v...

Do you have USE!UMB loaded? If so, remove it and try again. There is something up with it and the core so I wouldn't use it. I'm diving into QRAM when I have time.breiztiger wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 3:11 pm hi

Re: MiSTer PCXT
Sorry to jump in, but does XTIDE actually use LBA? If it does not, the weird behaviour with a random image size was explained before, wasn't it? If I am not mistaken, unless one specifies disk image geometry explicitly (and it MUST match the actual image size), serdrive assumes 16 heads and 63 sectors, so the image MUST be allocated in chunks of 5...

I wanted to report back that I finally worked through the serdrive disk "Bad Command Checksum" that I have been plagued with from the start of this project. What exactly does this mean? Re: MiSTer PCXT
FYI, serdrive can also mount floppy disks just fine. They need to be at the very end of the command like this. ../PCXT/serdrive -v 1 -c 1 -b 460.8Kb hdd.vhd ./floppy/PCDOS2K.img You can then have xt-ide boot from A if you hit 'a' during the boot sequence. You can also hot swap the floppy disk drive if you ctrl-c out of serdrive and then resetart it...

Booting from A: and doing a format c:, it doesn't find c: drive (Invalid drive specification). You miss the fdisk step, I got stumped on this as well before. But I don't understand how you format the image. Because, fdisk is to format floppy drives and format is to format hdd. Then, you rename to .vhd and you mound on ao486 as a hdd (ao486 can't m...

Re: MiSTer PCXT
I insist, it seems strange to me that it is a problem of the UART speed, but is it possible that you are using the experimental 7Mhz version? That might make more sense. In any case, if it's the UART speed, it's not necessary to change the core, in the script set it to 115.2K and it will work anyway, but at the previous speed. I solved it. It was ...

I won't know until this weekend when I try it out myself what the current situation is on ao486 as far as 386 era games, are they not working? That's what I'm wondering too. From various answer in this (and the other thread), I get the impression that one issue is being able to know what settings to use to match some specific 286 and 386 speeds. I...

I use DOS 6.22 Does the double dragon work well? Tetris also wonders if the graphics are coming out normally. I use 6.22 and double dragon works well, I was told dos 6.22 does not use more ram that older version, it even uses less ram than others like version 5 for example. https://ctrl-alt-rees.com/2021-01-06-which-dos-version-uses-the-least-memo...
