Re: Is it compatible? [PAL 50Hz][CRT via SCART]

I own a Sony KV14LT1E (German model) and it works fine with Mister. Both 50Hz and 60Hz picture is stable and the menu includes a setting to shift the RGB input horizontically, which is useful. Please note that Trinitron sets do not like high voltage on the Sync signal, and you may need to add a resistor to your VGA->SCART cable. See https://www.ata...

Re: MiSTer Multisystem - All-in-One System

Please feel free to post any questions here or on the YouTube video comments, we will aim to answer them as soon as possible. Hi. Will the analog audio out be fed by a proper DAC (that takes the data from the same source as the optical out)? I am asking because the audio out on the MiSTer IO addon board has a very noisy output and this could be mu...

Re: Arcade Game File Structure...Streamlining

Each arcade core chooses what MRA files are to be installed with it by placing them into the corresponding "release" subfolder on github. The update scripts simply download that. The update scripts can remove old cores (they have a date in their filename and when a newer file is there, they can check for older ones), but have no way to de...

The network is managed by the ARM core. It cannot "see" the second sdcard, as it is connected directly to the FPGA pins. See also viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3090

Re: Hitachi CRT CM1585M-M

You can try to find a mode that works for your monitor. This is 1240x1024@60

Code: Select all

video_mode=1240,72,136,208,1024,1,3,32,105320
This would require a hsync of 63.60 kHz which would fit your monitor specs.

This is the mode for 2560x1080@60 but I think this is exceeding the limits of the fpga. Try at your own risk.

Code: Select all

video_mode=2560,168,272,440,1080,1,3,34,230760

Re: Dell 2007FPb - Any experiences?

No, you are not missing anything. With 640x480, your monitor scaled the picture to full screen. Black bars are the result of integer scaling (so that every pixel stays the same size) - depending on the resolution of the image from the core you are playing, this might not fit properly into 1600x1200 if multiplied by an integer. You can see the origi...

Re: Dell 2007FPb - Any experiences?

If you run an LCD monitor below its native resolution, you are limited to the scaling capabilities of the monitor electronics. MiSTer has much better scaling, with many options to tweak it to your liking. MiSTer also has a lot of filters available, and many of these only work correctly if the display is run at the native resolution.

Re: Possible to emulate 15 kHz display on 31 kHz (480p) by using scanlines?

MiSTer has the

Code: Select all

forced_scandoubler
parameter. When it is active, 15 kHz signals get line-doubled to 31 kHz. In the OSD you can then choose from 25%, 50% or 75% "blank" depending on your preference.

Re: Higher or Lower Resolution on CRT Computer Monitor?

If you have a VGA CRT monitor, there is no need to set a resolution for most cores. By setting forced_scandoubler=1 almost all cores will create a 31KHz (or higher) signal, that will be shown on the CRT. For the few cores that lack scandoubler support and the arcade cores that are in vertical orientation, you can use vga_scaler=1 with a resolution ...

My PC VGA CRT Monitor will NOT work on almost any of the cores that output low resolutions like a ZX Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, NES, etc..... unless I use vga_scaler=1 - but then you are not getting the stock native output of the core, you are scaling it. The setting forced_scandoubler=1 allows you to use a VGA CRT with almost all cores without t...

Amazon.de has one for less than 2€ shipped (with prime). I use it with a 3€ DAC from aliexpress.

I am sure you can find similar cheap cables locally on ebay or amazon.

Yes, with a VGA crt, this could work with the VGA scaler:

Code: Select all

video_mode=672,24,64,88,432,1,3,16,28750
No need for the core to do anything special in that case.

I have applied this to a fresh mister.ini, with mixed results. Without any tweaks the image is narrow, with OSD's Full Screen it fills the screen but scaling is flawed (can see it on text in games, otehrwise it can look deceptively good). I can actually get a proper scaling using Wider HV-integer and then stretching image horizontally on my monito...

I use

Code: Select all

forced_scandoubler=1
vscale_mode=1
vga_scaler=0
vsync_adjust=2
As no scaler is used, video_mode should not be relevant. Mine is a custom 1152x864 resolution.

Looks like in this foto. Both with the latest core from the mister github and the "keys" fixed build from discord.

Regarding PC VGA CRT display, I've tried it again and it does work, but the scaling is off - on both old cores, as well as the latest scandoubled one. At least on my generic VGA config (which works with most other cores). I use a VGA CRT and used a ruler to measure the aspect ratio of the output of the latest test build (with fixed keyboard input)...

That is the error. Scandoubler creates a 31KHz signal for VGA monitors, you need to set it to 0.

That is perfectly normal. The mode line I gave is for a 31KHz VGA signal.

DOS VGA text mode is 720x400, and that does look squished like in your picture when scaled to a 640x400 resolution (you can improve the readability with the interpolation filter in the OSD). When running a game, resolution switches to 320x200 and all is fine.

Hi, I think you got all the important facts right. In my setup with both a VGA CRT and a TFT (for "tate" arcade games), I use the following mode with the CRT connected to analog I/O. It should also work with direct_video. [ao486] ;use with external filter "interpolation sharp" for readable text vga_scaler=1 video_mode=640,24,96,...
