Re: MiSTer Attract Mode
I don't suppose there's a way to have this launch at start up? Not built in currently. It's just a script, so the Linux side could start it up. That would make it tough to get out of Attract_Mode though! I put it on a few hours ago and it's still running now. I encountered the Mister crash bug after 2 hours or so with the default 2 minute setting....

Re: MiSTer Attract Mode
edit: not massively convinced its downloading mbc? It downloads to /tmp/ if a path to mbc isn't specified in the INI. That directory is cleared when you cold reboot or power cycle the MiSTer. mbc loads all the cores and games - except for arcade MRAs. So if it works for anything non-arcade the script is downloading mbc. Note thing I noticed today ...

Re: MiSTer Attract Mode
Thanks for your answers. During lunch time I had the opportunity to test it, before your answers, I changed the ini file with corelist="arcade", pathfs="/media/usb0" and no optional script -> it worked. As I understand it the optional scripts are for people who don't want to edit the ini file: if for example they want to cycle ...

Re: MiSTer Attract Mode
Question regarding the optional scripts: If I want to just cycle thru the arcades and set corelist="arcade" in the ini file, do I still have to have the optional Attract_Mode_Arcade.sh script installed? If you set the corelist to just "arcade" you don't need the optional script. It does the same thing. You always need Attract_M...

Re: MiSTer Attract Mode
All running, looks good! Anyway to add mute option for running in attract mode? Unfortunately no. Several arcade cores have dip switch options to enable or disable the sound during the "demo mode" - when no one is playing. But if you don't want sound your best bet is to disable the volume via your TV or in the MiSTer OSD. Press F12, left...

Just a heads up I started a new topic specifically for the Attract Mode script mrchrister and I are working on. You can see it here:

MiSTer Attract Mode
We've got a beta release of the MiSTer Attract Mode script. This is an expanded version of the work mrchrisster and I did on an Arcade-specific Attract Mode. Several console cores have been added!

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
We've been testing a general Attract_Mode script for MiSTer. We're seeing a pretty big issue with the reliability switching between many cores however.

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
The Vertical and Horizontal modes use specific paths, which have subdirectories. If the script doesn't see the Attract_Arcade.txt file in the same location as the script it will re-create it in /tmp/. So copy it from /tmp/ to /media/fat/Scripts/ and edit it. You should be all set.

Re: To those of you who tried it, is the BlisSTer Board Worth it?
I replied to a similar question on Reddit. I think there's a good value proposition if you buy into the Bliss-box.net ecosystem. You can use the GamerPro with original controllers on PC and console (with extra hardware). You can use the BlisSTer on MiSTer with menu support. You can use an HDMI SNAC adapter on MiSTer too.

Stupid input tricks with the MiSTer
@Enablescanlines and I were chatting on the MiSTer Discord earlier. He raised the idea of using the $100 Xbox Adaptive Controller along with a foot pedal to control the MiSTer. I have one here, along with the $100 Logitech Adaptive Gaming Kit - which provides a number of sensors for the controller. I hooked up the 2.5" "large" button...

Hyperkin Duke Controller
The Duke - not to be confused with Duke Nukem - is a re-creation of the original Xbox controller with a wired USB interface and some modern improvements. Affectionately known as "The Duke" for its large size, this controller design is popular with many possessing large hands. The Duke unfortunately does not work with the MiSTer out of th...

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
The way we're switching cores doesn't allow for that display on the main menu. The old method required you to explicitly go in and disable Attract mode, whereas the current solution just needs a cold reboot so we're not going back. Cores currently show you their short name on the OSD menu screen on the left side. With MRAs being updated with the fu...

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
This is awesome. I often have my Mister on in the background while I am working and this script is just what I was looking for. Thank you for making it. :) One thing to note is many cores have dip switch settings to enable or disable the "demo sound" - whether you hear audio during attract mode. It's tedious, but going through the cores ...

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
i'm looking for something that could load roms via different cores, so a speccy game loads and plays, then a snes game, then atari 800 and so on. Way harder i bet, probably not even possible with how different all the cores work. Right now there is a way to tell MiSTer to load a specific core from Linux. Unfortunately there is no way to tell a cor...

Re: Removing hostname check from scripts?
Checking uname is a terrible idea period. If you have multiple MiSTers on the name network you'll want to change the hostname to use Samba and FTP, which breaks all these scripts.

Heya folks! It's not April Fools here anymore - but we do have an improved version of the Attract_Arcade script! The INI is now fully optional. We do suggest using it if you want to customize behavior at all though.

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
Try loading the menu core before loading the MRA and see if that helps the weird loads. (So when switching do menu.rbf, wait, load mra) I did some testing with that and it didn't seem to help noticeably. That said, we've been rapidly evolving the script based on feedback. Another new update today, which consolidates things down to a single Attract...

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
I agree it's annoying when MiSTer doesn't load a core properly. I spend several hours trying different techniques to reset the MiSTer programmatically to work around the issue. Unfortunately nothing worked like the "Reboot" option. Some things I tried - killing the MiSTer process - actually made the problem worse. MrChrisster and I are ta...

Re: Multi cores/roms "attract mode" with Linux bash script
Alright attract -ive people! We have a pretty big update for y'all! Simply reboot your MiSTer to exit attract mode - no more "off" script! You can reboot (not reset!) from the OSD (F12 menu) or using the power switch. Running "Attract_Arcade.sh" will cycle through all MRAs automatically. If you want to use a custom list of MRAs ...

Re: USB Hard Drive Hurdle
FYI - that's the "USER" port, not a USB 3 port. It uses the blue colored USB interface, but it is actually a direct interface to the core. The BlisSTer board, mt32-pi, and SNAC accessories all use it. But it is NOT USB!Galaxy_Stranger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 5:38 am I even tried using the USB 3 port on the Mister board itself.

Re: Freesync?
Freesync, as well as Gsync, are proprietary tech which needs the 'handshake' of an OS driver to operate. Freesync is royalty-free and free to use. The HDMI implementation of the standard is known as HDMI Variable Refresh Rate, or VRR, and is only part of the HDMI 2.1 standard - which the MiSTer does not support. It is sometimes implemented in HDMI...
