Re: A case for 5x vertical crop in 1080p mode.

The new 5x crop option is excellent. Thanks to all who advocated for it, and a special thanks to those who implemented it. Can someone please specify the custom aspect ratios that are needed to get full integer scaling with a 6:5 pixel aspect ratio on NES, Genesis, and SNES? I see 64:45 posted above - is that value correct (I've seen 64:49 posted ...

Re: A case for 5x vertical crop in 1080p mode.

When I created this thread, I had one goal, to try and make a convincing case for 5x crop. Well today 5x crop option has become an official feature on NES, SNES Genesis, SMS, Mega CD, Neo-Geo and TG-16 cores. Not only that but there is a feature called "crop offset" that allows you to move the image up or down a few notches to gain back a...

Re: A case for 5x vertical crop in 1080p mode.

Sorg released a test build of 5x cropping for NES core and its working fantastically. Most importantly custom aspect ratios work with his test build!!!

Here is NES running in glorious 5x by 6x integer scale via custom aspect ratio setting (64:45). Thank You Sorg for considering this feature.

Is your controller NTSC or PAL? I know the PAL NES controller has some extra resistors or something, curious if that might be the issue.

Re: A brief clarification for unfiltered Mega CD redbook audio.

I found a bug that might be related to this change? I thought this was working before but isn't now anyway. In Sonic CD (US), certain soundfx are not playing no matter the audio settings. For example, running and then pressing down to spin on the ground is silent, as is the sound when you lose a shield from getting hit. There's also something miss...

Possibly Solved: Can't get multitap to work properly.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I set it to 3-5p mode on my Super Multitap, turned on SNAC and Multitap in the SNES menu. The game even lets me choose "Man" for the third player, but I can't actually move the character at all. Is the multitap feature limited to USB only, like I can't use a real multitap? Edit: I forgot that I believe SNA...

Re: A case for 5x vertical crop in 1080p mode.

And in the case of the NES 5x crop build you'll want to enable both hide overscan and crop toggles.

Also, recommend you choose a filter that only interpolates the horizontal since 5x crop will be a vertical integer.

Re: A brief clarification for unfiltered Mega CD redbook audio.

Great news if you didn't see it, Sorg updated the Mega CD Core with a separate filter toggle for CD audio, so now you can have redbook audio either filtered or unfiltered, so everyone should be happy now.

This is the way. Thank You Sorgelig.

Re: A case for 5x vertical crop in 1080p mode.

I notice a lot of people use the custom aspect ratio to get clean square pixels. An option for integer scaling both horizontally and vertically would handle that much more easily. Also it still doesn't seem possible to achieve horizontal only integer scaling using a custom aspect ratio. Genesis core at least will do that if you use the "Corre...

Hypothetically, what could be gained from a developer side if SRAM was supported?

Just a thought experiment and obviously would have to be limited to Digital IO boards with the extra 40 GPIO pins, but let's say just for fun an add on SRAM memory board was available to developers, what gains could they possibly see while developing cores? I hear SRAM in terms of performance is 2nd after BRAM. Not saying an SRAM board would ever b...

@Grabulosaure do you have plans to open a pull request for these soon? Thank you so much for implementing this! The one thing that needs to be fixed is the ability to use custom aspect ratios for 5x crop, currently they do not work. Yeah, I've noticed that. Re: A brief clarification for unfiltered Mega CD redbook audio.

Also, anyone who says this change is a regression, wrong or broken is misinformed. A real Mega CD came with both the patch cable and RCA cables. This is how Sega intended for people to hook up their Genesis to a Mega CD. Those who didn't use the patch cable and just ran all audio out from the headphone jack were simply not taking full advantage of ...

Re: A brief clarification for unfiltered Mega CD redbook audio.

Did the RCA jacks only output CD Audio, or did they handle the Mega CD's PCM too? Both I believe. Basically the the patch cable grounds the pins on the Sega CD's expansion connector that would feed audio to the Genesis. So instead the Sega CD's own audio gets fed straight to the audio jacks without any filtering and the actual FM audio from the Ge...

A brief clarification for unfiltered Mega CD redbook audio.

There appears to be some confusion by some people in the community why unfiltered Mega CD redbook audio was implemented, so I hope to clear up any confusion. Its pretty simple, a real Mega CD unit could output redbook audio either filtered through the Genesis/Megadrive headphone out, or unfiltered through the Mega CDs RCA jacks with the patch cable...

Custom background/wallpaper photos show jagged edges. [Solved]

I recently created a wallpaper folder with a bunch of 1080p jpg images and when the MiSTer displays them they have jagged edges, but when I view them on my PC they have smooth edges. Is this just how MiSTer scales photos? View picture in full screen.

Hmmm, I guess its normal because I toggled on a background via 1080p integer scaling and its displaying correctly, I guess its just the default snow image that does this.

Main Screen shows black bars on top and bottom when using integer scaling in 1080p.

I just noticed this, but when I use integer scaling via 1080p the Main Menu will not completely fill the screen vertically, is this normal? The cores themselves work as intended, just weird how the home screen is displaying. Edit: This only happens in 1080p, if I use 720p the image will fill vertically. There is no folder to create. Make sure you have the mame roms in games folder.

Ok, so I deleted all necessary Contra files, RBF, MRA and Rom. Then I ran Update_All and it worked just fine, so there is some user error on your end. Also, don't worry about the load rom feature in Contra core, the game should auto boot. that's odd. I ran update all script again and after checking everything it says it went successfull. Re: Black screen on some arcade cores. Any idea how to fix?

Some Arcade cores have given me issues like that, one work around I found was dropping problematic Arcade cores down to 720p. I didn't want to give up latency by using V_Sync=0, so I dropped resolution instead and kept V_Sync=2 enabled. Also, you might just want to delete your Arcade folder and start over. can you run 1941 and contra? do you have ...

Slowdown in SMS games is not exactly uncommon, especially when you have a fast game like Sonic. Sonic 1 on Genesis even had slowdown and Genesis has a much faster CPU than the SMS.
