Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

Obviously I'm referring to the former, because quite literally nobody cares about the latter. If you read the thread on the software vs. hardware emulation topic, parallelism is the first (and basically only) advantage I give to FPGA.

Re: MiSTer Nuked-MD MegaDrive Core

You can do things with an FPGA simulation that need an unreasonable ammount of raw processing power in software. Within an FPGA you can let the chips run in parallel like it was on the original software. Nothing you emulate in software will run in parallel as on the original hardware and in some cases this limits the accuracy of the emulation. You...

Edit: I figured out that I have to manually set system->rom to megaags-kickstart and reset.

If you unpacked the archive to /media/fat, you shouldn't have to do that - the proper configuration will be automatically written.

@Andy2No Thus far, sorgelig has seen MiSTer as a retrogaming more than a retrocomputing platform and doesn't consider saving compute content to be a priority.

I'm slowly attempting to change that. =) The Commodore PET has exactly the same challenge.

By default, I don't think there is one. Copy MiSTer_example.ini to MiSTer.ini and customize to taste.

Right. That'll need to get "inserted" info volumes that MiSTer can see as hardfiles.

You can give it a go yourself or I'll take a swing at it next week, but it should be possible to replicate effectively 1:1.

Re: Amiga Forever Installs

I wonder if the 'installation' of Workbench is using the filesystem versus a HDF...as far as I know, MiSTer will only support the latter.

If you look under All Users/Documents in Windows, is there anything in there that looks like files from Workbench 3.x?

I know about the 'odd' naming, it's because it's an amalgam of several different pieces all calling themselves 3.something.

Alright - my first suspicion was that the encrypted Kickstart wasn't loading, but clearly that's not it.

What is the exact behavior you get when you try?

Has anyone succeeded getting Amiga Forever's Workbench 3.x working on MiSTer? I bought the Plus package and have it running in Windows, and I was able to find a 6 MB Workbench 3.1 disk I got running on the MiSTer, but what I'd really like to do is bring over the complete 3.x setup.

Which Kickstart are you trying to use?

I have this working perfectly here, using a custom MGL called "2600 Paddle" exclusively for paddle games (so that I don't have to change settings when moving between joystick games and paddle games.) Would you mind sharing your /media/fat/config/inputs/ATARI7800_input_XXXX_YYYY_v3.map file (where XXXX and YYYY are your adapter's VID/PID)?

If you are mapping manually, the first paddle button should be mapped to Fire 1, and the second to Thumb (NOT Fire 2).

Do that again?

I'm using the files from here, and everything works GREAT except the second paddle button...and nothing I've tried will make it work.

What, exactly, is 'Thumb' and where is it found?

Make sure the "USB 3.0" port contacts are good by doing a continuity test of each port pin to the corresponding GPIO connection pin (found on the schematic). The jumper should definitely be in the IO position. I strongly suspect there's a cold solder joint on the board itself.

Joystick auto fire works fine for me using a USB DB9 Daemonbite adaptor and MiSTer also has a built in autofire system

That's interesting - most autofire joysticks require +5V on pin 7, which I didn't know Daemonbite provides.

Would you mind indicating exactly which adapter you bought and from where (by URL if possible)?

You aren't going to get a paddle from SNAC anyway, as the analog portion was long abandoned due to significant issues. Ironically, the only hope of true paddle support is adapting the USB version from the Atari 7800 core.

Red light - completely normal.

Blank screen - likely a refresh rate issue conflict between your arcade display and the CRT. Make sure you've removed or commented out any arcade-monitor-specific modelines and the like from MiSTer.ini.

Quick SAM question specific to Amiga - when games/demos run in SAM, the aspect ratio is messed up and they display entirely full-screen (i.e. widescreen), but look 'normal' under MegaAGS. Is there anything I can do about that? EDIT: Even though aspect ratio for the Minimig core was set to 'Original', I had to set it to Original again (by toggling i...

Serial controller is CP2102N. Only the one TTY device. No tasks running except tty2oled and SAM. CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, RAM at 1GHz. If I stare at an entire 3-minute cycle of a game on SAM, it 'skips' one second twice during the 168-second countdown, roughly equally spaced apart. It would seem that each 'second' actually lasts 1.0119 seconds, leadi...

Mine is ESP32. Like I said, once I updated tty2oled to the latest, the skips are very infrequent...but if you watch long enough, you'll see one. It was far worse before, skipping every 4-5 seconds.

Update: When I updated the tty2oled script, the issue with 'jumping' numbers seems GREATLY reduced (it still happens, but it's extremely infrequent now).

Is that particular function controlled by tty2oled itself? If so, I'll tag @venice about it.
