Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
The Mister image is still shifted to the upper part of the screen, even though the black is now filled in. I see differences in colour brightness, like I saw with mine. Although, yours looks the opposite, the Mister looks brighter. The black outlines in the original, are now grey in the Mister shot. Also, does the aspects look different ? Or is tha...

Re: Dealing with 50hz CRT Flicker
It's the VGA CRT, once you go under 60hz they flicker like mad. My Viewsonic 15" VGA CRT will flicker quite badly on anything below 60hz. Yet, none of my CRT monitors like the Philips range, or the Amstrad CTM644, Atari SC1435, Acorn AKF30. etc.. Or any of my CRT TVs from Sony, Panasonic, etc.. none of them flicker, and look good at both 50 an...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
Ok, THANKS! So at this point I think that Mister outputs the correct behavior of the Sega Master System Pal RGB output! Yeah, the Mister is probably the correct output. Although, the colours kind of make it look like an emulator running, they're too perfect, no artefacts. On the real thing, the slightly higher contrast makes the sky blue, seen in ...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
Yeah, the bars were black bars, both top and bottom. I could make the games fullscreen using the Philip's front controls, but then every other system would be too stretched. I tried 4 Alex Kidd games. Miracle World, Shinobi World, Lost Stars, and High-Tech World. I will also say, some games have bigger borders than others, so it looks like the Mast...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
For what it's worth, I hooked up my Master System 1 to my Philips 8833 Mk2 using an RGB Scart cable, and almost every game I tried had a border at the bottom. Some games had a border at the top and bottom, although the top border was tiny. I didn't use any original carts, I used a Master Everdrive X7 to load roms. I also have the 8833 Mk1, but this...

Re: Can't understand how to get pixel perfect resolution on my Philips CM8833 CRT
How are you using RF ?
None of the Philips monitors have an RF input, both the 8833, and 8833 MkII.
The Mk1, has Composite, TTL, and Scart, only - no RF input.

Re: You know Retrogaming is going wrong when...
The retro scene, on eBay, has got so bad that now empty boxes go for prices that you once paid for the full thing. A Gameboy DMG box can go for £50+, which is just nuts. Then we have the most overrated system on earth, the ZX Spectrum 128K+ Toastrack, where empty boxes go for whatever people want to pay for one. Here is one, currently sitting at £6...

I thought Shamus was written by William Mataga ?
Still, both games were great games on the 8-bit Atari, as were most Synapse games like Alley Cat, Drelbs, Encounter, Blue Max games, etc... Great times.

Like I said, I have thrown everything at it, INCLUDING modelines. It just won't sync to anything, even the menu. Yet, unplug it, plug in my Sony 9" PVM, then my 14" Sony PVM, my Philips 8833 Mk1 and Mk2, all work, same ini, same cables. Even weirder, the KV-14LT1U works with all my REAL hardware. SNES, NES, Megadrive, PC Engine, etc.. all...

I would. You CLEARLY don't know what you are talking about. Like I said, my Sony FD Trinitron KV-14LT1U does NOT work with the Mister, and I have tried all the modelines I can throw at it - it simply won't sync. Yet, connect up my Philips, same ini, same modelines, same connectors, and it works straight away.

I have a Sony FD Trinitron KV-14LT1U, and it didn't sync to any modeline I threw at it. It might need a very specific modeline, made for this particular TV, I don't know. I now use a Philips CM8833 Mk2.

Just get a cheap CRT, then you'll get exactly what you remember back in the day. If space is an issue, get a small consumer grade 14" CRT TV.

Thanks. I will try that. For anyone waiting for a case, or still using theirs bare, I mounted mine in one of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZG41VMP/ I also mounted the converter board inside, and used sticky mounting pads to mount the buttons on the rear, so it's out of the way. Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu
What does any of this have to do with this conversation? Do we win a medal or get some kind of street cred for having been there, done that with vintage hardware? II am merely putting things into perspective. Mister takes all the hassle of those difficult, and often frustrating times, and puts it all into a simple box, with a simple UI - it can't ...

Your over-reaction to the thread was frankly a bit shocking. As opposed to those who newly come to the forum, contribute NOTHING to the forum, or help anyone, but demand that others work for them for something that, quite frankly, isn't needed. Why should anyone work for you for free ? What have YOU contributed here ? To me, it's kind of rude to m...

then from the relative complexity of the mister to the fact some people want or expect a plug and play device. You should read some of the comments on that retrocave video of the case. A lot of them genuinely are expecting some sort of plug and play system that will rival things like the mini snes/nes, etc.. I think they are in for a surprise. And...

Input lag alone makes this a big no-no. It's just horrible on the Pi and everyone can feel that. Your kids, and friends won't know the difference. Let's take a look and see if we can apply basic User Experience (UX) concepts: Yeah, and ? Looks good to me, and each line does what it says. What are the most common functions you'd expect people to do...

You really could have worded this in a way that wasn't insulting and so aggressive. People are just mentioning their preferences and discussing it. It's a forum. I'm not being aggressive. Re: Feature request: Children Friendly/Kiosk/Party-Mode Menu
built my MiSTer inside the most inviting form I could imagine and loaded it with literally thousands of games, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the PS4 or Switch because to anyone born after 2000 a text-only menu is as foreign an interface as a rotary telephone. I don't expect my kids to sit down and go through name after meaningless name unt...

The UI can't get any simpler, it's practically moron proof. How can it get any simpler ? Pick system, press button, profit. Even updating is all done for you, via scripts, you just have to select what type of update you want. Seriously, I knew Feck all about Mister, or Linux. Perhaps you should teach your children how to use a Mister, rather than demand it be made simpler ?
Or, buy a Pi - that has what you are asking.
And no, we don't want a Nintendo, or Apple-like product. This is, after all, a nerd's homebrew type product, not a full-on commercial product.

Re: Why not use VGA 15pin to VGA monitor directly?
Direct video with hdmi to vga adapter looks significantly better than using i/o board. Significantly better ? What a load of garbage. That would suggest that the output of the I/O board is terrible, which is not the case. Infact, it's the complete opposite. I find it's better, and the increased saturation of the HDMI port is wrong, and not like or...

You can already do all that with CD images. CD Media is starting to fail, as rot sets in, and magnetic integrity fails. It's not going to last forever, and we now have plenty of ways of preserving it. I mean, why stop at DVD drives ? Let's have a built-in tape deck ? Or a built-in 5 1/4 " floppy drive, 3.5" floppy drive ? Where does it st...

If you're in the UK, then this is what I use for my Mister - VGA to SCART.

You'll need your own VGA male-to-male cable, and a fully wired SCART cable.
