Re: Macintosh Plus Setup
The Macintosh Plus was hardly used with a hard drive. It was an extreme luxury. You just booted the system (from 1 to 6, or even 7.1 if I recall, it was fitting on a single floppy) and swapped disks to load apps. Before OS 6 and the Multifinder, you couldn't multitask: you were running a single application at a time. The Macintosh Plus can only boo...

Re: Custom ini entries for arcade games
Actually that's what I was told, and it's not! The setname is what is being used and it is set to reflect the name of the romset used by the core, which is what it actually is using! I had issues with most arcade cores and custom settings, trying to use RBF as a basis as I was told, and today @paisleyboxers on Jotego's channel told me all about it....

Re: Audio pop when CD track begins playing
Oh that's not the CD, that's the PCM playback of the PC Engine. It is quite common on the real machine, and especially noticeable if you play through an equalizer amplifying bass or with headphones.

I shall test this someday when I plug my MiSTer in hdmi again. I'm very excited to see how it renders now!
I'm a big supporter of blurry options: my favourite console, the PC-Engine, may be beautiful in RGB, but the Japanese games made heavy use of the r-f/composite blur for their Japanese font and make it easy on the eye.

Re: PC88 Core
n80 should be the first rom, as the N mode you can select in the core aims for compabitility with the PC-8001.
I am guessing that n88.rom is probably just the 0, 1, 2 and 3 roms concatenated.

Oh I thought that option was in the Mega Drive core only for CRTs, and that HDMI could rely on the various effects/filters to achieve a similar result. That's not the case?

Re: Audio sync problems with CD-ROM games
For your R-TYpe Complete CD sound issues, this was typically the problem of games dumped before more refined dumping methods came along. As a general rule, though, I'd like to say that excepting for a few titles (Mugensenshi Valis, Ranma 1/2 Dato, ganso musabetsukakuto-ryu...) lips moves were very roughly synched with the voices. This isn't specifi...

You should report it on github, as I'm pretty sure the arcade card should disable itself automatically for HuCards to avoid this sort of problems.

Reset combo and readme correction
I wasn't sure whether to post this here or on github, so tell me if I should move it. I went through the Readme and I've noticed the reset description is a bit erronenous: Tap the Start + Select buttons together quickly to reset. The PC Engine/Turbografx-16 did not have a hardware reset button, and instead relies on this button combination. The tim...

You can also customize the mra and add your own setname. The format was made with flexibility in mind.

Ah I misunderstood what the request was! I thought the request was for the game to automatically launch on load, without having to press Start. Now I understand what the OP meant, and that's a great suggestion!

Re: Bios Quick Load?
It might be tricky: while the US bios loads a game by pressing start, the Japanese Mega-CD follows a different process and requires you to press Start then play on the following interface.
Derailing a bit, Sorge mentionned the PC Engine autoload BIOS, but I've failed to find it. Is it an option I am missing in the Turbografx core?

Re: Custom ini entries for arcade games
The simplest way to describe it is for you to look up the name of the core in the MRA file of the game you want to launch with a special parameter. For instance for Double Dragon, you'll see something like: <misterromdescription> <name>Double Dragon (Japan)</name> <mameversion>0216</mameversion> <setname>ddragon</setname> <mratimestamp>20191127000...

Re: MiSTer Cores on OSSC Pro?
The VGA scaler already kind of does that, and shows the limitation of the process: most platforms requiring it are computers, with heavy text based interfaces, and losing most of the pixels makes those really hard to decypher.
I am guessing the OSSC Pro could work some filter around it, but it will probably not solve the reasonable usability issue.

Re: Star Parodier and the the Super System Card/Bootrom
Oh we had many consoles, and multiple copies of the game, so it wasn't an odd issue. It was a time way before CD-Rs were a thing too, so read errors were very rare and striking — usually simply fixed by wiping with alcohol a stray digit mark on the glossy media, “whoops”. Art of Fighting was definitely the worse. Garo Densetsu 2 or Special, I don't...

Out of curiosity, is it as simple as hooking a vga monitor, or does this require some heavy fiddling into the magical art know as electronics?

Re: Star Parodier and the the Super System Card/Bootrom
Shows that the proper answer is always much more simple :D
They should have reimplemented that solution in later Arcade card games, because some of those seemed to have real reading errors (I particularly remember all our copies of Art of Fighting/Ryuko no Ken had near systematic reading errors)!

Re: Star Parodier and the the Super System Card/Bootrom
Trust me, the 'fix' version is rare. Damn. I am in the exact opposite position: I only had the working version in my possession, and I learned about the issue only many years later. But because of my personal experience, I assumed until now the fixed version was very common! Still not regretting departing with it, because I love the PC-Engine, but...

Even Juoki/Altered Beast should work with the Japanese 3.0 system card, excepting for its first Japanese batch — but maybe it's the more popular dump circulating everywhere because a lot of people seems to mention this game!

Re: Flip / Rotate Mode Consistency especially Gorf
The Capcom games' screen flipping isn't a feature of the core, but what was implemented by Capcom on their PCB. Macro explained earlier why a simple "vertical flip" was not possible for Gorf in direct video output. Most of the Astrocade based arcade games make intensive use of the vertical interrupts to do colour changes & screen upda...

You probably need to set fb_terminal=0 in the mister.ini file.
Having it set to 1 prevented the update scripts from running on my CRT setup.
