Re: Is there a way to force (globally) 60Hz?

I am going to try changing ROM extensions tomorrow. I think that is the culprit. I bet that changing the .md roms to .bin will correct this issue. We shall see. From the readme File name extension: BIN -> JP GEN -> US MD -> EU -___-; Anyway you shouldn't use this system, as rhester72 pointed out. So basically, there was no issue! Also C16 core doe...

Re: Is there a way to force (globally) 60Hz?

If the region priority is greyed out while using autodetect through ROM headers (it should be grayed out for the other options), something is definitely wrong, and that explains you experience issues. It might be worth reporting on github.

You might want a PAL compatible TV for the Commodore 64 though, as most games require it.

Re: Is there a way to force (globally) 60Hz?

I've tried fiddling around the core's setting trying to figure something, using Altered Beast mostly, but to no available. The only situation where it will default to EU here is if choose Auto region detection through file extension. It then will load almost every game at 50hz, for some (equally mysterious, if you ask me) reason. Disabling autodete...

Ha ha, I totally remember the redskinned humans. I was striking as strange but whatever goes back then, and had totally forgotten about that.
I had no idea there were index tables and such. As a player, you take everything for granted, but it's funny to get glimpses of how the innards work.

Re: Is there a way to force (globally) 60Hz?

Those settings are not for direct video output either.
The detection is based on ROM headers. If the rom doesn't provide such info, the core can't make it up. Why it defaults to 50hz for some people and 60hz for others is a mystery though.

Re: Palette Options

This is a bit of an hardcore talk for me, but to contribute, on my first gen PCE RGB modded back in 1989, the colours were strikingly bright, even more than what the core displays currently (although different screen probably got a part in this too). This is why I enjoyed playing PCE games more in NTSC composite back then.

vsync_adjust settings only impact things going through the scaler.

I have a boot.rom set to an NTSC game, if that may somehow be linked.

Re: Is there a way to force (globally) 60Hz?

In this case, it really should depend on the ROM file: the autoswitch switches settings based on the header info that it provides, if any. If no header, no switchie. If you want to force 60Hz, you can simply force JP or US region. Region lock might be an issue for some later games, or the language. Now I have zero idea why it defaults to 50hz every...

Re: PC88 Core

I think joystick became an option only with the later SR series, so it makes sense for 8801 games to not support it. I wouldn't think of playing the Castle games with the potential fear of pressing a wrong jump input anyway!

You could remap the keyboard numeric pad and Z, X, C keys to be done by the joystick in the OSD menu though.

Re: Time Pilot '84 for MiSTer

Hello,
The core displays at 60.6hz which is quite an extreme refresh rate (ie even my Barco monitor can't adjust to this if I don't open it and override its autosync). Is the original arcade game board that extreme?

Thank you for your work and cheers!

Re: Default coin button?

Do you press "A" to tell the MiSTer which controller is player 1 first? That's a new tentative rule implemented in the latest MiSTer update, and it confuses a lot of people especially in arcade cores, since you don't try to press any other button but the coin one in those initially.

Re: Can't Use Registered Controllers

Just press the "A" button (as defined in the MiSTer menu while configurating your controls) on the controller you wish to use and its input will be activated. It's a change implemented recently to prevent autodetection of controllers by any press (as it was the case before), instead requiring the specific "A" button to be presse...

Re: MiSTer can read Wii Mote, but the cores can't

It might be another issue: I have updated the MiSTer to latest, and all my controllers take a long while (about 30 seconds?) before registering in game, if at all. Can navigate the menus perfectly. Only in game controls take time to "start up". I have verified it with a variety of controllers. Keyboard seems unaffected. I tried reversing ...

I have tried building mine and have the exact same issue. (garbled screens and all)
I wonder if the graphfont.bin included in the core's .qar might not be different from the one we can extract from font.roms.
I can't test it though, since I'm not running Windows and unable to use quartus in any way.

Re: PC88 Core

The font.rom found around is 6KB and is, I suspect, a stack of the two files Puu uses for his rom file. Splitting the file manually (using an hex editor for instance, at address #0800) should do the trick. To be sure, once you're done with your electronic butchery, you can check whether the font.rom is 2048 bytes long and the graphfont.bin is 4096 ...

Re: Kabuki Ittou Ryoudan - freezing on loading screen when facing Kabuki as opponent

I tested it myself: you can select opponents in single player mode.

I tried also 2 players mode: if you select two Kabukis on any stage, it works, but any character on the Kabuki Danjuro stage (it's the one selected as default in VS mode) will freeze the loading of the Arcade Card data apparently.

I tried it with 1942 1943 and am in the same spot, it doesn't seem the rotate option works as it does in HDMI.
Maybe one needs to output the signal in direct video using the HDMI plug with a converter?

Back to building up muscles and backaches when wanting to play Tate, I guess :D
